Chapter 45
Ruby
The illusion works, all the guards at the dungeon gates let me pass unquestionably, and I finally get to Owen's cell.
“Take him out.” I order the two huge guards at the door.
“Yes, your majesty.” They bow and open the cell. They remove his shackles and bring him to me. I stay outside the cell not to arise any suspicion.
“Where is she you bastard, did you do anything to her?” He pounces on me the moment he gets out. Even with being locked up, he is so strong, he knocks me to town and topples over me.
He grabs my neck and starts squeezing me so hard, I can't breathe, I also can't let go of the wand because my identity will be revealed in front of all these guards.
Thankfully, the guards pull him off me, because I almost started chocking.
“Let him be!” I say when they try to hurt him. I can't take it, he looks so emaciated and tired.
I want to run into his arms and comfort him, but I have to get a hold of myself. “Let him have his laugh, where he is going is far, much worse.” I say, trying as hard as I can to sound as arrogant as Möbius.
I am hoping that Möbius is doing alright though, even after hurting me, I don't wish anything bad on him.
“Follow me bastard.” I command, giving Owen one last look before taking the lead. I am also aware of the two guards following me. I don't want to stop them abruptly because it will sound so suspicious.
“Where is she, where is my mate?” Owen asks as he follows me behind. I just ignore him and stand abruptly after exiting all the dungeon gates. I don't know if they can hear it, but the way my heart is thumping so fast, it's just a give away. I need to lose them now before they notice something fishy.
“You can go back now!!” I command the two guards.
“Yes your majesty.” They bow and go back without question. They really respect Möbius.
I proceed walking away from the palace, with Owen following me behind closely. I wonder why he isn't asking where I'm taking him.
Suddenly, he grabs my arm and pulls me towards a direction I don't know of. I try to speak, but he shushes me. I notice it's towards the main city, where he once took me on a date.
After some time walking, he pulls me to a corner of a long wall, where we hide for a bit. He pins me to a wall and towers over me protectively.
“What are you doing.” I try to say, but it comes out as a mere whisper.
“Let go of the wand baby I need to see your beautiful face.” He says, smiling lightly his warm breath fanning my face. His face looks so worn out and his eyes so weak though. He really must have suffered a lot.
“Do you know who I am?” I ask.
“Of course, how can I not know you, my baby? I live for you, Ruby, how can I not.” He says, his gaze softening. I let go of the wand and slide into his arms. “I recognized you since I got out of the cell. At first, I wondered where you were, but when I saw the wand in your arms and the look in your eyes when I pinned you down, I knew right away.” He grins.
“Really, then why did you pin me down.” I frown a little remembering how he almost chocked me.
“I had to go with it, I had to make your act believable. Your scent sold you out, I can sniff you in the midst of one million people.” He adds, winking.
“Mmh, that's probably an exaggeration.” I frown a bit.
“No baby, your scent keeps me going, your memories are the ones that kept me sane inside the dungeons.” He looks away a bit, I can see the suffering he went through. “Especially the ones where I get to see you naked, really gave me strength.” He laughs.
“Stop it.” I smile as I place my head on his chest. “I missed you, baby.” I say, a tear streaming down my eyes. "And I'm sorry about my outburst, I was really angry."
“Im sorry too for betting our love like that, my intention was to see you well even if it costed me everything." His gaze doesn't leave mine. The sincerity in his eyes is unquestionable.
"You really went through hell in there baby, I'm so sorry." I can't control my tears anymore.
"Hey don't worry I am just fine, now that I'm with you, I am okay, Ruby.” He hugs me tighter and sniffs my hair.
"Don't ever do that again." I warn.
"I promise." He says kissing my forehead passionately.
“What happened to Möbius.” He asks after breaking the hug reluctantly. I explain what happened. “And some strange man wanted to have my soul, that's why Möbius asked me to run away and take the wand.” I add.
“What, oh no, we need to hurry, but first we need to blend in with the locals, the person who said that is my father, and that meant he really claimed your soul.” He says his eyes wide open.
“What do you mean claimed.” I ask, his expression sending chills all over my body. I think I know what he means, but I want to hear it from him.
“If he gets a hold of you, he will snatch it from you.” He explains.
“What?” I feel even more chills running down my spine. "Does that mean I will die if he does that?" I ask just to make sure.
“Don't worry, I will never let anything come to harm you baby, don't worry. I will fight for you until I take you back home I will kill if I have to.” He swears, taking my hand in his. “Möbius will surely distract him long enough for us to be away from here.” He adds but the tone in his voice suggests otherwise. It's evident that he fears his father, and he is dangerous to a point where even Owen fears him.
I just hope we don't encounter him.
