Chapter 14
Ruby
Today is a new day.
I wake up jovial and content, hop into the shower, I take almost thirty minutes just getting in there. I then doll myself up as I always do, well, let's say before all these chaos of three mates.
I put on my off - shoulder black body con dress, black chunky heels and my favorite black Gucci handbag, I do full makeup, and then I wear my hair into a perfect ponytail, I finish my look with my loop earrings.
In my purse I make sure to carry a small mirror, powder, brush, and my favorite pink lipstick. There is always a price to pay when wearing makeup.
I make sure I look ravishing before stepping out of my room. I always hate having to rely on people to give me compliments, that's why I make sure I am happy with my look first before stepping out.
I head downstairs slowly and carefully I can't risk tripping, I don't want to have to start dolling myself up all over again.
“Darling you look gorgeous.” My mum says to me from the bottom of the stairs. I hadn't noticed her since I was so focused on looking at the steps as I went down.
“Hey mum.”I didn't know how much I missed her until I saw her. I hug her tightly and kiss her cheek. “Thank you mum.” I say, letting go of her.
“What was that for.” She asks, taking my hand lovingly and guiding me to the dining area. She then pulls a chair out for me.
“Can't I hug my mother? It's just that I have missed you so much, mum.”
“I missed you too my darling, I just wanted to give you space to figure out what you wanted, or rather who you wanted.” Her expression changes soon after saying the words. “I hope you have chosen one of the three, my darling.” She looks horrified when I shake my head. There is definitely something she isn't telling me.
“Why Ruby, you have to choose, you can't be with all three of them.” her eyes are all wide as she says all this. "You could choose Damien, he is a wolf, just like you. So it will be easier to bond with him. besides mates are supposed to be alike." She adds, how could she say that?
“I can't mum, what I feel for them is equal, and I cannot imagine staying away from either of them. I also don't know how I am going to manage them, mum. All I know is I can't be away from them. The mate bond is too strong.” I say my feelings overwhelming me, so I take a seat at the dining table.
"You just have to reject them and you will not feel pain." She says.
"No mum, I can't, I cannot bring myself to do that."
“Oh my darling.” My mum rushes beside me and embraces me, rubbing her palm on my back.
“What will I do, mum.” I ask her, I feel like it's a rhetorical question since I, for one, don't even have the answer.
“Ruby my darling, you are going to stop crying, take your breakfast and go enjoy yourself. Leave this worrying to the goddess. She has the reason why all this happened to you and not to any other girl. Besides, you are so young, you have your whole life ahead of you to decide on which path you are going to take.” She is actually right, I am carrying all this heaviness in me, I unhealthy. “Go have fun, my darling.”
“Thanks mum.” I kiss her cheek, I feel like a really heavy load has been lofted off my chest.
“Anytime darling.”
“Wait a minute, mum, aren't you coming to the ceremony? Let's go together, I miss being with my mum. “ I ask when I notice her all dressed up. She looks gorgeous, her blonde hair is tied neatly and her face all made up, except she hasn't applied lipstick.
“Sorry darling but I won't be going, but you will find me here when you did later.” She says. By the look of how she is smiling, she definitely has a date.
“So, mum, who is making my mother smile like a teenager?” I ask, nudging my shoulder against hers playfully.
“What? I don't know what you are talking about.”
“Well, whoever he is, I am happy you are happy. Just remember to take care of yourself, mum because you are all I got.” I say sincerely, I am so happy for her. I would like to meet the guy though one time.
I bid my mum goodbye as I leave the house. I head straight to Zama's, I really missed her. I ran into her arms the moment I see her. And as usual, she is wearing so much makeup. Not that it bothers me, though, I think it makes her so beautiful. I tried to go this hard but all I could see in the mirror was a whole another person.
“Don't touch me Ruby, how could you abandon your friend like that.” She says, frowning. “Ever since you got your gorgeous men you abandoned me.
“Oh I am sorry Zama, I will tell you everything that has happened to me in these few days.”
“Yes you do, especially how you ended up unconscious in that hottie Damien’s room, I need to know everything.” She says. “And that Owen was so devastated, I tell you. I couldn’t believe a huge guy like him could behave like that, it was so sweet.” She adds. I feel so happy hearing that from her, and I suddenly miss Owen, I wish he was here. I hope I will meet all three at the party, I miss them.
“Where are you at, you just spaced out?” Zama asks when she notices that I haven’t replied to her. “You look gorgeous by the way, shall we go now?” she says, retouching her already heavy mascara.
“I was ready ages ago.” I tease.
