Chapter 17 sleep with me

Chapter 17 sleep with me
Elinra POV

I rubbed my eyes slowly, letting out a long yawn as I blinked several times. My vision was still blurry, hazy from sleep, but I forced my eyes open until the room around me became clear enough to recognize. Something felt different, lighter, quieter. I shifted on the bed, expecting that familiar sharp pain to shoot through my body the way it always did, especially through my legs. But strangely, it didn’t come.

The pain was gone.

I frowned in confusion and slowly removed the bedsheet covering my legs. My breath caught in my throat the moment I saw my foot. I blinked again, harder this time, thinking maybe I was hallucinating or still half asleep. But no, it was real.

My injury was gone.

Completely gone.

I grabbed my foot, almost afraid to touch it. I caressed the healed skin gently, shocked beyond words. How? Silver injuries never heal quickly. Silver eats at the flesh, destroys the nerves, weakens the wolf, drags out the healing for days or weeks. Yet here I was, healed overnight as though nothing had happened.

My confusion deepened and I touched my foot again, lifting it lightly. My jaw trembling, I gasped softly. Magic? A miracle? Something was not right. Something had happened while I was asleep.

My eyes slowly drifted to my hands, and another wave of shock slammed into me. My injuries there were gone too. Not a single trace of a bruise, no scar, not even sensitivity. My hands looked fresh, soft, whole. I ran my fingers over them, feeling the warmth.

Who did this?

And how?

No injury marks. No pain. No discomfort anywhere in my body. It was as if someone had wiped me clean and rebuilt me from scratch.

This was impossible. Due to the curse placed on my pack, my wolf had been weakened, broken to the point where she could not even shift. Lola had barely been able to whisper inside me since that day. She should not have been capable of healing me, especially from a silver wound. A wolf cannot heal from silver without help. That was fact.

Yet here I was, healed.

And then, without warning, a memory flashed through my mind — the sensation of eyes watching me last night, a presence nearby, warm and intense. Someone had been close. Someone had been watching me.

Before I could think further, the door pushed open and Candice walked in. His eyes immediately landed on my expression, and he frowned, hurrying to my bedside with concern etched across his face.

“Are you okay? Is the leg still hurting?” he asked, his voice full of worry.

I lifted my leg and showed him. “Look. It healed. How?” I said, frustration and confusion pouring out of me.

Candice grabbed my ankle carefully, staring at the healed skin as though it were unbelievable.

“How come? Your wolf healed you?” he asked.

I shook my head quickly. “She didn’t. And even the injuries on my hands are gone. Did you do it?” I asked, hoping desperately that he was the one, just for the sake of having answers.

“No, I did not, pookie,” he said, shaking his head. “I do not have healing abilities. Kaelrix or Versus do have healing abilities, but I cannot tell who did it. Everyone keeps their abilities secret in this pack.”

My heart stopped for a moment.

So it was either Kaelrix or Versus.

But it couldn’t possibly be Kaelrix. He hated me. He would sooner throw me off a cliff than heal me. So the only one left was Versus. He must have done it. He had been nothing but gentle toward me since I met him.

Versus would be the only one.

I touched my foot again and smiled without meaning to. I thought I would lose this leg, that it would twist or scar permanently, but someone saved me. Versus came through for me.

“So I’m guessing it was Versus,” I said to Candice. “Because Kaelrix hates me.”

Candice nodded. “Yeah, I guess so. Anyway, are you hungry now?”

I shook my head. “No, I’m not.”

“Why? You need to eat something.”

“I will eat later. I don’t normally eat in the morning. Where did you sleep last night?” I asked curiously. I hadn’t seen him at all. No sound, no trace.

He smiled charmingly, chuckling a bit. “Pookie, it is still night. That is why our pack is different. We have longer nights than days.”

My eyebrows shot up. Still night?

In my pack, it should be morning already. I should have woken up to daylight by now. But here, the night lingered unnaturally.

So this was part of the curse.

This pack was unreal.

No wonder the day felt so short yesterday.

“What is the time now?” I asked.

“1am,” he replied.

My jaw dropped.

1am. And in my pack, it should be around 9am or 10am. The difference was enormous.

Before I could dwell on that strange reality, the door creaked open again and Versus walked in. The moment I saw him, my eyes watered in gratitude. I couldn’t hide it even if I tried.

He approached the bed with a soft smile, his steps calm and unhurried.

“How are you feeling now?” he asked, his voice gentle. It made warmth pool in my chest and almost made me throw my arms around him.

“Thank you so much, Versus, for healing my legs. Thank you,” I said quickly, excitement bubbling in my voice.

His brows rose slightly, surprised I had figured it out so quickly. But then he smiled warmly and reached out to touch my head, his fingers gentle.

“Come on, it is fine, dear. I just want you to be happy. And I am happy you are smiling again,” he said softly.

I smiled genuinely at him, maybe for the first time since I came here.

“Thanks for healing her, Versus. You are the best,” Candice said.

Versus nodded. “It is fine. I am glad she is okay. You are not feeling any pain anywhere, right?”

I shook my head. “No. I feel like someone who has been reborn.”

He smiled again, his blue eyes meeting mine, and my heart skipped at the sight.

“I will be taking my leave now. Take care,” he said gently, touching my head once more before turning and leaving the room.

I watched the door close behind him, feeling a strange flutter inside me. I didn’t know he was this kind. All this while I had mistaken him for someone as cold as Kaelrix. But he was different.

“So tell me, what is on your mind?” Candice asked suddenly.

I smiled. “Nothing. Just thinking of a lot of things. And I’m happy that my baby legs are healed. And my palms too.”

Candice grabbed my hands and squeezed them softly. “I’m happy you’re happy.”

We stared at each other for a long moment, silence stretching between us. My heart thumped loudly inside my chest.

He smirked. “I can hear your heartbeat from here. Why are you scared?” he teased.

I blushed instantly, feeling my cheeks burn. I snatched my hands away, flustered. “No, nothing… it’s nothing.”

He burst into laughter. “You look so cute when you blush.”

“Huh?” I muttered, feeling even more embarrassed.

He stood up suddenly and I frowned. “Where are you going?”

“I’m going to sleep in another chamber. I’m feeling sleepy,” he said.

I blinked. He wanted to leave the room for me? Just so I could rest comfortably? The thought warmed my chest unexpectedly.

“Don’t worry,” I said softly. “Come and sleep with me.”

His eyes widened in shock.
