Chapter 12 Rumors...
Chapter 12 Rumors...
Scarlette’s POV
His eyes were stuck on mine for longer than I could explain. I suddenly began to notice some features in him I somehow hadn’t noticed before today.
His hand ran to his hair slightly, brushing it off his face. A little habit of his that I had noticed over time.
My eyes lingered on his face, longer than intended.
He had always looked so good, but why did that matter to me now?
“If that’s all you came for, you can leave now!” I said, dismissively, shutting out both himself and the thoughts of him that seemed to be hunting me.
He turned slowly, hesitant… I felt an itch somewhere in my chest. Maybe I shouldn’t have been too hard. I thought.
“Thank you for caring, but I’m fine.” I said to his retreating figure, my voice a little softer this time.
He turned slightly and then nodded. “Sure. I’ll be on my way now.”
As soon as he walked out the door, I felt my heart finally relax.
“Shit!”
What was that about?
It was like immediately he stepped in, every air in the office got sucked out. I just suddenly forgot how to breathe.
“What the heck is happening to me?” I said, unbuttoning my shirt a bit, like it could do anything to ease the weird feeling in the air.
By evening, Kael and the soldiers had still not returned. I got worried, pacing and waiting.
I had been calling them from time to time to stay informed. But Kael suddenly stopped picking my calls, neither did anyone else. It made my worry grow stronger.
Once I was done with the day’s work, I took Cyrus’ journal with me and headed for my room. The guards bowed in respect as I walked past. Finally, I got to those thick wooden doors, painted in black. My room.
I pushed open the doors and stepped in, already taking off my shirt with one hand as I slammed the door shut with the other.
I stripped everything off me, walking naked into the washroom. A routine I had gotten used to.
I spent a good number of minutes in the washroom, unlike normal. The glass walls of the bathroom had gone blurry due to the steam.
My skin burned as I thought of his intense gaze on me. The pace of my heart piqued once again.
“No…” I shook my head in disapproval.
“However he looked at you doesn’t matter, he’s just one of them. He’s just after his own interest.” I chanted the words over and over, trying to convince myself.
I reached back into the room, my towel on my hands as I dried myself. The first thing that reached me was the buzzing of my phone. Before I got to the phone, it had already stopped.
I had gotten about three missed calls from Kael.
I dialed him back quickly. “Kael?”
“I’m sorry your majesty,” He started. “We were in the sorcerer’s temple and so I couldn’t respond to your calls.”
“What did he say?” I asked, curiousity eating me.
Silence broke on the other end of the phone.
“Kael?” I called, impatiently.
“He wants to speak with you personally.” My heart beat paused for a second.
I swallowed hard, remembering the dream.
“Did he mention why? Or did he at least mention if it was related to Cyrus’ condition.”
“I don’t have an answer to any of that, your majesty. He only gave us an antidote for Cyrus’s condition and then left that message.”
My throat became tighter, I said nothing in response.
“We’re on our way already.” Kael said finally. “See you soon.”
I dropped the phone with shaky hands.
Almost immediately, a message appeared on my screen.
I picked it quickly, thinking it was from Kael.
When I opened it, I realised it was from Alpha Azrael.
The message contained a picture of the construction site at Full moon Pack followed by a text.
“I just got to my pack and realised that your workers have started with the project. Thank you so much once again, your majesty. I can’t just thank you enough for what you’re doing for my pack.”
I sighed, my fingers already moving to exit the message. But instead of exiting, it began to dial Alpha Azrael’s number.
I saw the reflection of my naked body on the screen.
“Shit!” I panicked.
I tried to end the call, but my hands were still a bit wet, causing the screen to remain unresponsive.
“No… no… no…” I said almost a thousand times as I sent the phone crashing into a corner of the room. I sighed out in relief.
“Shit! That was close.”
“Your majesty… Is everything alright?” I heard Evans call out from behind the shut doors.
“I’m fine!” I said breathlessly.
I picked up my towel and wrapped it around my body before heading to where my phone had landed.
The screen had shattered really bad I could barely even recognise it.
It began to buzz again.
He was calling back.
I pressed the power button.
Realisation hit me, I should have done that earlier.
I dressed up and made my way to the living room, still anticipating Kael and the guards. My heart seemed to be in so much chaos. I needed something to drown myself in as I waited for them.
“You there!” I called out to one of the maids.
“Yes, your majesty.” Anna responded with a bow.
“Switch on the television.”
“What would you like to watch?” She asked.
“Just turn it on and give me the remote. I’ll find what I want.”
I began changing channels. I rarely ever watched TV, so I didn’t know which channel showed what?
I was searching for news.
I kept switching till I got tired and just dumped the remote back on the table.
“Nina!” I called.
She turned quickly. “Yes your majesty!”
“Could you please get me a glass of milk.” She nodded and turned towards the kitchen.
“Reporting live from the AlphaLoversTV…” Said a lady in a white button shirt and jeans. She had a mic to her mouth and a pretty interesting smile.
“Rumors have it that the young an
d Handsome Alpha, Alpha Azrael might be in a relationship with the daughter of his fellow Alpha, Alpha Martins.”
“The news has not been confirmed, but these photos and clips of Alpha Azrael and Brenda Martins are giving the chills…”
“Tell me, what do you all think of this?”
Several photos of Azrael and Brenda began to appear on the screen. In one of the photos, she seemed to be whispering something to him and he couldn’t stop smiling. In another, his hand wrapped gently around her waist as they danced.
Before the next clips could make it to the screen, I picked up the remote and switched it off.
And for some stupid reasons, I felt anger rise in me.
