Chapter 43
Porter fixed his tie as he waited outside the church. It’s his wedding day. It’s the day he’s been waiting for all of his life, the day when he marries and starts his forever with the woman he loves.
“Agit.” Serge muttered beside him.
Porter glared at him. “You don’t know the feeling, fucker.” He snapped at him.
Serge laughed at his best friend. “You’re so nervous that Janine won’t come to your wedding!” He beamed and laughed together with their friends.
“Serge is right, Porter. You’re so anxious. Loosen up!” Hunter beamed.
Porter rolled his eyes at his friends. “Whatever, assholes.” He muttered and looked at his watch.
Kellan walked beside him. “Is this alright?” He asked.
Porter looked at him. “What do you mean?” He asked.
Kellan shrugged. “You, getting married without a family attending. Are you okay with that?” He asked. “Porter, you only get married once.”
Porter looked at him and smiled weakly. “Of course I want to be with them during this fateful event.” He replied. “But they don’t approve my relationship with Janine so, it’s okay. As long as Janine’s mine.” He smiled, contented.
Kellan looked at him and smiled back. Well, if he’s happy about this, then…
“Porter Kim!”
Everyone stopped when Johann’s voice was heard.
Porter stiffened and turned serious. Johann was with Czarina. “What are you doing here?” He gritted his teeth as his eyes narrowed at them.
Johann smirked. “So, you’re going to marry her, huh?” He asked, teasing.
Czarina’s face couldn’t be painted. “You must be really out of your mind, Porter Kim.” She spoke, sounding really disappointed.
Porter pursed his lips in a thin line. His friends were silently watching this confrontation.
“I don’t care what you think. I love her. I’m marrying her.” He stated with a voice firm and authoritative. “I won’t ask you to move on, but I know you know that you have to get over it. We’re happy. Don’t disturb us.”
Johann chuckled. “Well, congratulations to you for your wedding.” He spoke. He looked at Czarina. “We’re not here to make a scene, cousin. We’re here to make amends.” He glanced at Czarina and raised his brow.
Czarina rolled her eyes. “Nothing is forever, Porter. Sooner or later, you will break up.” She stated. “Don’t think that you will be able to spend your forever with her.”
Porter narrowed his eyes at her.
Czarina sighed. “But since you want her now, then maybe you can spend your everyday with her.” She spoke.
Porter raised his brow. “Whatever. I don’t need anything from the both of you anyway.” He beamed as he turned his back on them.
“Porter—”
“My son!”
Porter froze when he heard that familiar voice calling him.
“Porter, my son!”
Porter turned to confirm the identity of the owner of the voice. “Mom?” He asked in disbelief of seeing his mother on his wedding day when he knew that she didn’t approve anything about this.
His mother pulled him in for a tight hug. “How dare you get married without bothering to invite your parents, Porter Kim?” His mother sobbed in his embrace.
Porter smiled. “You didn’t approve my relationship with Janine. I don’t think you’d want to see me get married with her.” He reasoned.
His mother cried harder. His father appeared from behind.
“Your mother was depressed and apologetic because you left without telling anyone where you’re going.” His father spoke. “Do you think we want you out of our lives? You’re our only son! We want the best for you.”
“Janine is the best for me. When you didn’t accept her, you stopped wishing the best for me, Dad.” Porter replied.
His father sighed and patted his shoulder. “If she’s the best for you, then we want her for you, son. You don’t need to leave us. We just needed time to accept things.” He told him.
Porter smiled and nodded. “Stop crying, Mom. Go inside and seat at the front row.” He told her. “I’m still single. I’m still your son.”
His mother looked at him and nodded. “I’m really, really, really sorry, my son.” She spoke in all sincerity.
Porter smiled and nodded. “Thank you, Mom, Dad. You don’t know how much this means to me.” He told them as he kissed his mother’s forehead.
His mother and father smiled at him. “Then, we’ll go ahead.” His father spoke motioning to go inside of the church where Janine’s parents are.
He introduced them to Janine’s parents who welcomed them whole-heartedly.
“Janine’s five minutes away.” Mr. Kwon told Porter.
Porter nodded and began nervous again. “That’s good, Dad.” He replied.
Five months was all it took to make this wedding happen. Janine even wanted it to be a year after but L didn’t agree. He didn’t want to wait that long. He wants to be her husband the moment she told him she’d marry him. Then, now, wait for a year? No way. He’s not going to wait that long.
He looked over at the people and smiled at his workmates from Seoul. He approached them and they all congratulated him.
“Congrats, bro.” River, the best man and Henney’s boyfriend, tapped his shoulder.
Porter smiled at him. They’ve been close since Henney is Janine’s roommate and now, her Maid of Honor. The two couples spent lots of time in preparing the wedding.
“Are they coming?” He asked River.
River nodded. “Their car is about to park outside any moment from now.” He replied.
“The bride is here.” The master of ceremonies announced.
“We should get to our proper places.” River spoke as he led Porter towards the start of the line. He grinned at Porter.
Mr. and Mrs. Kwon immediately stood up and walked to the end of the line where they would accompany Janine in walking towards the altar.
Porter looked back and saw Janine smiling widely. A big thorn has been released from his throat. His bride is here. He’s going to marry her now.
His parents walked beside him. “Make her your woman forever, Porter.” His father told him.
He looked at his mom and smiled. “I love you, son.” She told him and he smiled at her more.
The organizer motioned to everyone that the ceremony will start now. The pianist started to play the notes that melted everyone’s hearts.
Here we stand today, like we always dreamed, starting out our lives forever.
The light is in your eyes. Love is in our hearts. I can’t believe you’re really mine forever.
Porter reached the altar with his mother crying silently beside her. He smiled and let them go as he waited for his bride to come.
I’ve been rehearsing for this moment all my life.
So don’t act surprise if the feeling starts to carry me away.
The bridesmaids and groomsmen came walking down the aisle. River was chuckling behind him with his other friends.
Porter smiled even though his heart is starting to get filled with all the emotions.
So if you feel the cold wind blowing through your nights, I will shelter you.
I’m forever here to chase your fears away.
Henney was walking through the aisle with the brightest smile among the ladies who just walked.
“That’s my girl.” River breathed and smiled widely.
Porter’s heart is racing even faster as he saw Janine in her flowy white dress and veil, walking down the aisle with her parents. She’s far from him but he can see her tears. She’s nearing him and the song’s about to end.
On this day, I promise forever. On this day, I surrender my heart.
Janine reached him and he reached out his hand for her to hold. “You’re very beautiful.” He commented and she smiled sweetly.
Here I stand, like our plan. Please say you’ll always look at me this way. Like on this day.
“Don’t ever let her go, Porter.” Mr. Kwon told him.
Porter smiled and nodded. “Never in forever.” He replied as he led Janine to the altar.
There’s no holding back. They’re going to be together forever. It’s the end. It’s the end of him being her other man. From now on, he’s her only man. ---END---
