Chapter 39

“We’ll be okay.” Porter assured Janine as they boarded the plane to Busan. It was just yesterday when her mother called and, now, they’re going to meet her parents.

She’s nervous for Porter. She saw how his parents disapproved of their relationship. Although she understood their point, she’s still sad about it. Well, how can you accept the fact that you’re not accepted by the important persons in the person you love’s life?

It’s hard. But Porter is trying to convince her that it’s all going to be alright in the end. Just the two of them. They only need each other in this life.

“How can you be so sure?” She asked as she sat on the seat beside the window.

Porter smiled at her as he took the seat beside her. “Because I know that I will marry you no matter what they say. No one can stop me from having my forever with you.” He spoke as he fastened her seatbelt.

Janine pouted at him. Whenever she feels so shaky, Porter would just really say the right things to make her feel so secured. She doesn’t know how he does it but every time he does, it’s working just fine. She must really be so in love with him for this to happen to her.

“I love you.” Porter whispered and kissed her earlobe. “That’s always the answer.”

Janine looked at him who’s grinning widely. “I love you, too.” She replied as she planted a kiss on his cheek.

Porter smiled. “I’d give up everything for your kiss, baby. I’d give up everything for you. Don’t feel guilty of all the people I turned my back on. Always remember that I wouldn’t turn my back on them if they just accepted us. It’s their fault. Not yours.” He played with her fingers.

Janine nodded and smiled, contented of everything she has right now. She’s willing to turn her back on people who’d not accept them, too. She can do it with Porter. She can live perfectly with Porter.

“Do you know the lot for sale three blocks from your house in Busan?” He asked her out of the blue.

Janine looked at him and shook her head. “Why?” She asked.

Porter grinned. “Nothing. I just thought it was a good spot for our house.” He replied.

Janine’s eyes widened in realization of what he just said. “Don’t tell me…” She couldn’t even manage to complete her sentence because L was already grinning widely.

“That’s right, baby. I bought it.” He smiled.

“You bought it?!” She asked in disbelief.

Porter nodded.

“Why?” She asked. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

Porter smiled. “Because I want to surprise you.” He replied simply. “Don’t you think it’s a good spot for our house? It’s near the beach and it’s actually really peaceful.” He leaned on her shoulder while playing with her fingers.

Janine sighed. “You still should’ve told me.” She replied. “What if I said yes to Johann?” She asked.

Porter looked at her with narrowed eyes. “I know you wouldn’t.” He spoke seriously. “And even if you did, I’d still build a house there because I would do whatever it takes for you to choose me. No matter what it takes.” He reiterated.

Janine smiled. “You’re so obsessed with me.” She teased.

“Is that a compliment for me or for you?” He grinned.

“For me, of course.” She rolled her eyes.

He smiled. “Then, I’d happily just stay obsessed with you if it’s going to be a compliment for you.” He spoke as he wrapped one arm around her shoulders and pulled her closer to him.

Janine couldn’t help but smile until they arrived in Busan. For the first time in three days, she didn’t think of what others would think. She just thought of her and Porter having fun and loving each other like every normal couple does.

“I should’ve shipped my car.” Porter muttered under his breath.

Janine looked at him questioningly. “Why? Then what are you going to use in Seoul?” She asked.

Porter sighed. “Baby, if we’re going to live here, I need to bring my car here. I will be with you. I won’t be in Seoul.” He replied as he hailed a cab.

Janine smiled to herself. She’s trying to get used to the sweet Porter who gives her fast heartbeats. And well, she’s improving. Of course, if she gets married to him, she needs to get used to his sweet nothings.

“Or maybe I should just sell it and buy a new one here.” He continued when he finished putting all their baggage in the compartment of the cab.

He took her hand and led her inside the cab. “Are you hungry?” He asked her sweetly.

Janine smiled and nodded.

“Do you want to stop by and buy food?” He asked.

Janine shook her head. “We can just eat at home.” She replied. “Mom said she cooked lunch for us.” She grinned.

Porter nodded. “Okay, then. Let’s go straight home.” He smiled.

Janine stared at Porter. “Are you sure about this, Porter?” She asked.

Porter raised his brow. “How many times do I have to tell you how sure I am for us? Do you want to get pregnant now so you can have your peace of mind? Coz I will, Janine. I will impregnate you if that’s the only answer to your doubts.” He spoke not minding if the driver is listening.

Janine’s face blushed. “How could you easily say that?” She asked as pinched his side.

Porter laughed. “That’s why you need to stop asking me about how sure I am about us, Baby. I am more than sure.” He told her. “I have never been this sure.”

Janine stared into his eyes.

“How about you? Are you sure about us?” He asked back.

Janine smiled. “Very. Very sure.” She replied and hugged him. “You’re the surest thing in my life, Porter Kim.”

Porter smiled and hugged her back. “And you’re the most precious thing in my whole life, Janine Kwon. I won’t ever let you go. I know I told you this plenty of times but I’d repeat it to you over and over again for you to not forget how much I love you.” He kissed the top of her head.

“We’d make it through everything.” Janine told him.

“I know, Baby. I know.” Porter smiled.

They arrived at the Kwon’s residence and saw a feast on their backyard.

Janine’s eyes narrowed at the number of people in their yard. “What’s happening?” She asked to herself.

Porter took out all their baggage from the compartment and looked at Janine who’s looking so confused of what’s happening right now. “Something wrong?” He asked.

Janine shook her head. “It’s just that…” She pointed at their yard and Porter looked. “I think there’s a celebration.” She continued as she looked at Porter.

Porter narrowed his eyes as well.

“What is this about?” She asked.

Porter held her hand. “Come on. Let’s see.” He told her as he pulled her inside their house.

Mrs. Kwon’s eyes widened when she saw Janine and Porter entering from the gate. “Janine! Porter!” She beamed and took Mr. Kwon’s hand to come near Janine and L. “You’ve finally arrived!” She beamed happily.

Janine and Porter blinked at the festive celebration and at Mrs. Kwon’s enthusiastic remark.“What’s happening, Mom?” Janine asked.

Mrs. Kwon smiled at her and hugged her tight. “We’re celebrating because Porter said that you’ll live in Busan from now on.” She giggled.

Janine narrowed her eyes at Porter who’s pretending to be coughing behind her. “What’s this?” She asked confused.

Porter blinked at her. “I didn’t know they’d hold a celebration if I told them my plans.” He defended.

Janine narrowed her eyes more. “What plans?” She asked again. “And how are you able to communicate with my parents?”

Porter shrugged. “I don’t know. Living here? Peacefully?” He grinned.

Janine shook her head and rolled her eyes at him before turning back to her parents. “Mom, Dad. This is Porter, my…boyfriend.” She was careful to say the last word.

She knows that her mother told her that it’s all going to be okay but she’s still hesitant to be a confident about the situation. The truth is, she expected them to be all serious right now.

She looked at her mother who’s smiling at her and at her father who’s doing the same. “Aren’t you…mad?” She asked reluctantly.

Her parents shook their heads much to her delight. They are not mad! They’d accept their relationship. They’d finally get accepted by someone.

“Janine, the heart changes from time to time.” Mr. Kwon started. “You may like someone now then tomorrow, you’d wake up and not like him anymore. That’s okay. That’s life.” He told her.

“She’d like me forever, Mr. Kwon.” Porter butted in.

Mr. Kwon chuckled. “My point is, your mom and I want you to be happy with the man you love. We don’t care what other people say as long as you’re happy. You’re our only daughter and you’ve never been a disappointment to us.” He spoke and hugged Janine who’s teary-eyed at the moment.

“Finding a good man is one thing, Janine. Finding your happiness in a good man is another.” Mr. Kwon whispered as he looked at Porter and smiled. “I wish that you’d both be happy forever. You’re my daughter and you’re happiness comes first all the time. All the damn time, Janine.” With his words, Janine’s tears flowed.
