Chapter 67

Chapter 67
Lyra pov

As we sped down the winding road, the world around us blurred into streaks of color, the cool air rushing past my face invigorating yet terrifying. I couldn't help but wonder how the biker had known we were stuck in traffic. No calls had been made, and no messages sent—just a strange synchronicity that sent chills down my spine.

When we finally arrived at the pack, I was taken aback by its stunning beauty. The buildings were sleek and modern, their glass facades reflecting the sunlight while lush greenery enveloped them like a natural embrace. I stood there, momentarily lost in awe, my eyes drinking in the sights and sounds—the distant laughter of children, the soft rustling of leaves, and the gentle hum of activity.

Vincenzo's voice cut through my reverie, his words piercing my eardrums with sarcastic clarity. “Come on and stop staring,” he called out, his tone dripping with impatience, pulling me harshly back to reality.

My head snapped towards him with a jolt, and I shot him a fierce glare, my frustration bubbling to the surface. "I'm not a dog on a leash, you know," I snapped, striding towards him with a scowl marred by the crimson glow of the sunset behind us.

He raised an eyebrow, a hint of amusement dancing in his stormy blue eyes, which sparkled with mischief. "Really? I hadn't noticed," he drawled, the corners of his mouth twitching upward as if savoring the moment.

I rolled my eyes dramatically and quickened my pace, my heels clicking sharply on the uneven pavement, each step echoing my irritation. "You're something else, you know that?" I retorted, the heat of the moment intensifying with every word.

"I'm just getting started," he replied, his voice low and husky, dripping with a teasing confidence that made it hard to stay mad. The air between us crackled with an unspoken challenge as tension swirled in the cooling evening air.

VINCENZO POV

I smiled as she followed me inside the grand mansion, the air thick with the scent of polished wood and fresh paint—remnants of a recent renovation that whispered of victory. Today was the day I’d claim her for myself before Marcello had a chance to even think about it.

The entire staff had assembled in the vast living room, their eyes darting between me and the stunning figure behind me. Lyra moved with a grace that reminded me of a sea princess, her movements fluid yet exasperatingly deliberate. She truly was an annoying lady, one I planned to enjoy for myself before any distractions could surface.

“Welcome, Vincenzo,” came a familiar voice, echoing like a haunting melody through the expansive room. My heart raced as I searched for the source, an unsettling nostalgia creeping in. That feminine voice—I had no idea where I had heard it before, but the memory eluded me.

“Over here. I’m up here.” The voice called again, more insistent this time. I tilted my head upward, and my heart dropped like a stone into icy water. There she was—Cassandra, perched on the staircase with a smug look that sent a flicker of irritation through me. What was she doing here? I forced a smile, but it quickly faded into a frown; if she was back, then my sister must have returned from her trip as well.

A surge of adrenaline coursed through my veins, tightening my grip on Lyra’s hand as I instinctively took a step back, shocked by the unexpected confrontation.

“Get your hands off me,” Lyra snarled, her voice sharp and angry. With that response, I couldn't help but see her as a stubborn little rabbit, refusing to be tamed. Perhaps this was going to be more complicated than I'd anticipated.

Cassandra descended the grand staircase, her heels clicking softly against the polished wood, her eyes locked on Lyra with a mix of intrigue and appraisal. "Who is she?" she asked, her voice low and tinged with curiosity, the hint of a smile playing at the corners of her lips.

I disregarded her question, my mind racing with a sense of urgency that overshadowed my interest in introductions. "Where's Claire?" I demanded, my gaze sweeping the elegantly furnished room, taking in the familiar faces that loomed like ghosts from my past.

Cassandra's smile widened, revealing a hint of mischief in her eyes. "She's right behind me," she replied, her tone teasing, as though relishing the moment.

Just then, my sister Claire appeared at the top of the stairs, her vibrant smile lighting up the dimly lit foyer. "Hi, brother. It's been years!" she exclaimed, her voice bright and clear, echoing the warmth of her presence as she hurried down the staircase.

My face broke into a genuine smile, as if the years of absence melted away in an instant. I opened my arms wide, embracing her with a heart full of affection and relief. "Claire," I whispered, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead, taking in her familiar scent—the faint trace of her favorite perfume mingling with the air. She looked radiant, her cheeks flushed with happiness, and her eyes sparkled with an infectious joy that made the heaviness in my chest lift, if only for a moment.

As I stepped back, I noticed Claire's gaze shift toward Lyra, her expression shifting to one of intrigue mixed with suspicion. "Who is she?" Claire inquired, her eyes narrowing slightly as she assessed Lyra from head to toe, as if trying to unravel a mystery.

I tightened my grip on Lyra's hand, feeling a surge of protective instinct rise within me, a possessive glint lighting up my eye. My heart raced as I registered the unspoken challenge in Claire's expression.

"She is exactly who she thinks she is," I replied, letting a hint of sarcasm lace my voice, the words dripping with defiance. With that, I took hold of Lyra’s hand firmly, feeling the warmth of her presence bolster my resolve, and turned on my heel, purposefully walking away as the tension lingered in the air behind us.
