Chapter 54

I walked into his chambers, my head held high, my posture perfect. Unexpectedly, I remembered all my classes from my childhood on being a lady. Simply because I don't use them doesn't mean I have forgotten about them. I stopped in the middle of the room and turned to face him. He was seated at the edge of his bed, his hair untidy like he put his hand through it several times.

"Nalani" he called.

Normally his voice would have made my feet feel like jelly but at the moment, it was irritating me. I don't know how stupid he thought I was, but this was not getting passed me. I will use this as an opportunity to leave even though it will shatter my heart. My heart will heal eventually but it won't stop breaking if I stick around.

I raised my hand to prevent him from speaking.

" Your Highness" I bent my head.

He came flying. He took my hand in his and tried to stop me from bending further.

"I told you not to do that anymore " he muttered.

"That was when you thought of making me your queen. Currently, your real Queen has arrived, it's safe to say I am still a servant. And as a servant, I should bow down to my king" I growled.

He watched miserably as I went down on my knees and bowed. At least he was sensible enough to not stop me this time.

"Nalani..."

" Please before you talk, I have something to say."

"Fine go ahead, "he said.

"I would like to leave the castle" I announced.

The shock was visible on his face. His eyebrows crunched together and a frown formed on his face. Why was he frowning, it was a reasonable request given our circumstances.

" You are not going anywhere!" he said turning to go back to his original position.

What! What the hell did he say? Was he planning to keep me here by force?

"May I remind you, I came to work in the castle willingly and I can leave willingly" I retorted.

I will not permit him to have the upper hand. I had already lost enough to him.

"Nalani, I don't want to turn this into a whole thing. Please stay here for now, we will figure out the rest later," he begged.

My willpower broke. I was trying so hard to be respectful but he was making it even harder for me.

"You don't get a say!" I threatened" You don't get to tell me what to do. You lost all the rights this morning."

I was so mad that my breathing came out of my pants. He just looked at me like I was making a fool of myself. His face was stoic with no emotions whatsoever. I couldn't tell what he was thinking or feeling. While I, on the other hand, my annoyance could not be mistaken.

"You will not leave this castle, and neither will you leave my side" he growled.

I chuckled. He had some nerve trying to use his authority over me.

"And how do you intend to keep me here, Your Majesty" I teased.

His eyes changed. Suddenly he was looking at me like I was prey and he was a lion. He stood up once again and took even steps towards me. Something in him had changed, I could sense it. He was a predator and somehow I ended up being his prey. The more steps he took toward me, I took equal steps back. Something about his demeanor was scaring me.

I stopped when my back hit the wall. I looked around trying to find a way out only for him to pounce on me. Our chests touched as he breathed heavily next to me. What was wrong with him? He lowered his head to examine me but I turned away, not entirely interested in looking at his traitorous eyes which would convince me one thing while he meant the exact opposite. His thumb and forefinger grabbed my chin and forced it upwards. His eyes clashed with mine.

He seemed to be searching for something. They say the eyes are the windows to the soul and I couldn't agree more. I stared at him, and he stared at me. Both of us searched for what was hidden within the other. How could such beautiful brown eyes belong to him?

"When I said I'll make you my wife, I meant it" he declared.

We were standing so close to each other, that our breaths were mixing.

"What will happen to the tall blonde you have been engaged to for four years?" I asked sarcastically.

"I will figure it out. I will not let you go no matter what" he growled the last part.

"You can't keep me against my will. That is considered kidnapping!" I yelled.

" Then consider yourself kidnapped by the king" he smirked.

What the actual hell? Was he insane? Has he always been this dense or I didn't notice until now? I knew he was used to getting his way but this was too much.

"Ambrose..."

I wanted to try a different approach a calmer one. Maybe if I was calm he would be rational.

"Please think of the future of this Kingdom. You are the King and the Kingdom should be your priority." I explained.

"Are you trying to say I am being irresponsible?" he asked, his eyes locked on mine.

"Those are not my exact words. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, she is the daughter of a nobleman, if I am not wrong."

"She is but what does she have to do with you."

My handsome fool. I thought he was intelligent. How come he couldn't comprehend what I was trying to say?

" You cannot break off an engagement that has been there for four years."

"Of course I can, I am the fucking KING!!"

Now he was getting furious.

"What will that cost you? Have you thought about it?" I asked.

He released me and started pacing. I'm guessing he didn't want to think about it. Well, he has to. I will not die trying to be his Queen.

"Allow me to leave here with Kellen and you will be able to rule peacefully for the next hundreds of years."

"NO!"

I thought I had him on my side, but he didn't listen to me. What was it going to take for me to leave this man? Should I resort to telling him the truth? No....this wasn't the right time. Right now, he was unstable emotionally and I didn't want to push him further off the edge. Who knows what will happen when he finds out the truth?

"Is anybody there" he yelled.

A second later, a knight opened the door, ready to do what was asked of him.

"Take Nalani to the Queen's chambers. She is under house arrest" he announced.
