Chapter Thirty-nine
Gwen
"Coming!" Gwen yelled when the doorbell went off for the third time, pulling out the oven gloves from her hand and keeping them gently on the caramel countertop.
Suddenly, Gwen pulled up short in front of her door and tensed up, wondering who would be at her door by this time of the night. She stood on her tippy toes and looked through the eyehole. The moment she saw his remorseful face, she pulled her weight back to her heels and folded her arms in an attempt to make him suffer for a while. He knocked again and she held out ten fingers, counting down from ten to one and pulling a finger down in accordance.
"Zero," she whispered and unlocked the door, pulling it open and two pairs of eyes blinked in unison as they locked on like a magnet. "What is it?"
"Hey, I decided to check up on you." He mustered a grin and Gwen didn't buy any of his charms, she kept her face rock solid and folded her arms over her chest.
"What do you want?" Gwen asked with a plain expression.
"Can I at least come in?" He asked remorsefully but Gwen shook her head in dismay, leaning on the doorway as she sized him up. "What if the night creatures-"
"I have a gun." Gwen chimed in, pulling out a golden boy rifle from behind her door. "I also have a forty-four magnum somewhere. She steadied the gun beside her on the floor and Paris had a once over at it before looking back at her face.
"Why do you have a gun?" Paris questioned with astonishment then took a step back from the door.
"My father and it's legal for me to own one because I'm of age." She orated, resting a hand on her hip and crossing her ankles with a gaze that never faltered. "Why are you here?"
"Why are you mad at me?" He asked confidently, hardening his face.
"Why am I mad at you?" She asked between controlled giggles, shaking her head in disbelief as she shuffled her weight from one foot to the other. "Are you freaking asking me?"
"Yes." He shoved his hands into his pocket with dead eyes and the gentle breeze frolicked with tresses of hair, scattered around his forehead. "I have been calling your line, but you ignored them."
"And why should I have taken them?" She asked gruffly with a stoic expression.
"C'mon, why are you so glum?" He asked softly with affection as his eyes finally came alive with different emotions.
"Don't act like you don't know what you did." Gwen rolled her eyes to his feet, disliking the brown boots he wore, tagging them as ugly in her head.
"Okay, tell me what I did." He sighed.
"You invited me over to your house-" she paused to take in a deep breath, "-then ignored me the whole time by watching stuff on your phone." She explained, getting slightly raged as she felt the hot blood, streaming into her veins. "I asked if I should leave and you asked for your phone, you even let me walk alone, all the way to Armani's door."
"But she's just a door away from me." He grunted, looking at her like she was being delusional.
"And when have you ever left me to walk all the way to her door?" She emphasized the 'all' and gestured dramatically with her hands. "Alone?!"
"Okay, I should have walked you, my bad." His demeanor softened and he kept his pride aside.
"Why did you act that way?" She swallowed her frustration and tamed her anger.
"You keep bringing Armani over and we never get to spend any alone time." He complained, raising his hands in mock surrender.
"Why do you want us alone, you want to get me laid?" She gasped, clutching her mouth and Paris sighed in defeat.
"No," he said, holding his face in his palms and fishing out more words, "If I wanted to have sex with you, I would have done that in the lake. I just enjoy spending alone time with you, my lady because I like you a lot." He gripped her hand and sowed a kiss on her smooth skin.
Gwen stiffened at this and gulped, turning the walls of her dried throat into a wet cave as she swallowed again, feeling the light tickles of the breeze, kissing her cheeks. She darted her gaze to his shoes again, finding it all the bit intriguing as she avoided his piercing gaze.
Suddenly, Gwen clenched her jaw and furrowed her eyebrows, sharply meeting his gaze, saying, "Is that how cheap you think I am that you feel you would have had sex with me in the lake?" She snatched her hand from his bracelet-like clutch and scowled at him.
"No, no," Paris protested, face-palming and heaving a sigh. "How did you get such a theory?"
Darkness seeped in and the streetlights flickered on so did her porch light, casting his shadow on the floor.
"Why would you want to stay alone with me?"
"Don't you get it?" Paris' nostrils flared for a minute and Gwen jerked, looking intensely at him. "If I wanted to see her, I would have called her, but I called you so why would you call her? If I wanted you both, I would have invited you over for dinner, a movie, or even taken y'all out for bowling."
Gwen felt a lot of saliva accumulating in her mouth as she paid heed to every word he said.
"Not every guy you see wants to have sex with you, damn it!" His voice made her hair brittle and she watched him closely, ping-ponging her gaze from him and her gun. When Paris saw he had done the wrong thing, he softened and exhaled the in-depth frustration. "Look, I'm sorry for raising my voice but if you do like me too or have ever had feelings for anyone, you'll understand what I mean."
"You should never raise your voice at me again." Gwen pointed out, glancing at her gun, "or I wouldn't hesitate to use it on you."
He followed her gaze and immediately his eyes fell on her gun, he laughed, and she followed suit.
"C'mon, have I been forgiven?" He pinched her jaw, pulling it up so their eyes could greet but Gwen tittered, wiggling her jaw out of his fingers. "You have the prettiest brown eyes I have ever seen."
"They are just dumb sets of normal brown, not even honey brown or something." She shrugged, pursing her lips.
"Brown eyes are just brown eyes until you fall in love with one who possesses them." A smile graced his lips, and he thumbed her crimson cheek.
She felt her stomach flip and her heart skipped a beat, accompanied by the feeling of cold shivers, running down her spine and she managed to say, "Hope you haven't fallen cause I wouldn't catch you."
A sad expression camped on his face, but the look disappeared as soon as it came, making her wonder if she had imagined it.
"Hug me." He hid his feelings behind a hearty smile and spread his arms wide open.
She inched closer and stood on her tiptoes, watching as Paris arched down so she could wrap her arms around his neck. She shut her eyes and pressed her breasts against his chest, enjoying the masculine scent that his body emitted.
"What do you want from me?" She pulled away from the hug and he gripped her waist softly, still pressing his chest and groin onto her torso.
He looked into her eyes and parted his lips to let out these words, "love."
"But I have a boyfriend and-" she was cut short as he pressed a brief kiss on her forehead and looked back into her eyes.
"I know you have a boyfriend; I don't want to date you." He averted his gaze to her arm and trailed his fingers down the sensitive skin and stopped at her fingers only to pick her hand up and interlock their fingers. "I just love that you give me attention, you make me feel special, and the fact I get to see you every day, smiling..." He drawled, squeezing her cheeks lightly and Gwen bared her pearly whites. "...just like the one you're wearing now, gives me unexplainable happiness and if I was your boyfriend, I would show you to the world and always make you happy then-wife you."
Gwen looked down at his chest and felt her face flush with heat with an aching core that craved to be filled with his hard groin.
"I-I don't know what to say." She stammered, feeling her core tighten itself and inducing pain.
"You don't have to say a word." He pulled her in for an embrace and she wrapped her arms around his neck once more, wincing silently as her core twitched and pulsated. She hadn't been hammered in a while and it was causing a minor frustration. She shook her head, staring off into the woods as she dispelled nasty thoughts.
Instantly, the corners of her eyes made up a tall figure by the other side of the road and she turned her head to feed her curiosity. He had bushy brows and overgrown hair that made her skin itch like it was hers. His hair was uncombed, and he passed for the description of a hobo as his gaze pierced into hers like an arrow and she struggled mentally to break the eye contact, but she couldn't.
Paris felt her muscles tense up and he plastered a kiss on her neck, which she was oblivious of.
The man in a villain coat, standing under the light with a whirlpool of emotions turned his back, taking one last glance over his shoulder with a plastic bag in his hand before walking away. Immediately she sized him up and realized who he was, she jerked out of the hug and her heart jumped into her throat, restricting her lungs from taking in oxygen.
