CHAPTER 23

**ABBY POV**.

“We are the Blue Moon Pack.” Marcus’s father said and my mother looked worriedly up at my father. He tried to give her an encouraging smile as he rubbed her shoulder but I could see it didn’t help, especially when the alpha spoke again. “What kind of werewolf are you?” He said in an accusatory manner and I felt a pang of anger towards him. “How can you live in a town and not know who the closest pack to it is?” He asked without waiting for her to answer his first question. My mother swallowed nervously.

“Like I said!” My mother said as she managed to give him an angry eye before looking away from him. “I wanted to get away from this life and to start over. I didn’t know about your pack until now.” My mother said and the alpha snorted disbelievingly.

“Unbelievable!” He uttered through his teeth. “You Violets always do what you want! Rules be damned!” He uttered and my mother inhaled a breath. Something the alpha said, disturbed my mother and she looked at me with wide eyes. “What is it?” I asked, but she looked back towards the alpha. “How do you know that I am from the Violet Moon pack?” She asked and she looked back to me. Without waiting for the alpha to reply, she spoke again.

“You have purple eyes, don’t you?” She asked. I quickly looked around the cell area. I could feel a little confusion in the air. “Yes.” I said before I continued. “Well, that is what they say I have… I haven’t seen it for myself.” I explained before alpha Marius cut in. “Yes, she does. I saw it myself when she defended herself from a rogue.” He said and my mother’s eyes darted to my bandage on my arm again. She stood in thought for a moment.

“What happened to the rogue?” My mother asked. It took me a little by surprise for her to ask about that, but from the look that the alpha was giving her, he knew why she had asked it. “He got away.” He said and my mother swallowed nervously as she hastily stepped out from my father’s embrace to approach the cage bars. Wrapping her slim fingers around the bars, she looked at me nervously and with a little fear.

“Abby, listen to me very carefully.” She said before her eyes briefly darted to the alpha and back to mine. I came closer to the bars. “You have to leave and you have to leave now.” She said and there was a tremble in her voice that I have never heard before. In fact, I have never seen my mother scared before so I immediately knew she was serious.

“Do you really think that running away will solve this situation!?” Marcus’s father cut in angrily. “You violets really are unbelievable. You think that running away will solve this problem!” He snapped and I could see anger flash across my mother’s face at his words. “No, running away does not solve anything but it does save lives!” She spat back and she quickly lowered her eyes from him. Was she submitting from his glare? I wondered.

“You don’t know me, alpha.” My mother continued as she looked to her hand that clutched the bars in front of her. “Running away doesn’t solve anything but it was the only way I could save my daughter’s life.” She said and her eyes sought out mine. I took in a shocked breath at her words. I felt more confused than ever. Why would my life have been in danger? I wanted to voice my thoughts but my mother spoke again. She looked to Marcus.

“If the news about a violet wolf on blue grounds finds its way to the wrong ears… then she is going to be in danger.” My mom said seriously. A coldness swept over me at my mom’s words. “Mom, I can’t leave.” I spoke before Marcus could reply but she shook her head as her eyes darted to the man behind me again.

“All of you will die, including us.” She warned. “The best would be is to deny that she was ever here.” She said. “Play it of as a play on the trick of light on the eyes or something.” She suggested as she looked to each in turn. Alpha Marius started to shake his head and my mother began to get more distressed as I saw her eyes become watery. My heart was pounding loudly in my ears as I watched her starting to panic. I jumped in fright when my mother slammed on the bars in panic frustration. “Please! While there is still time!” My mother begged but Marcus’s father was still shaking his head until he spoke.

“I’m afraid, there is no time.” He said and for a moment he looked really saddened by this. His eyes guiltily landed on mine but he quickly looked away. Marcus held me tightly to him, the warmth the only comfort that I had down in the cold cells.

“What do you mean?” My mother asked before her eyes widened in realization. “You have already informed them, haven’t you?” She asked. It wasn’t necessary for the alpha to answer as it was obvious. A defeated look entered my mother’s eyes as she turned back to me. she reached through the bars and cupped my cheek, a tear slipping free form her eyes. “Abby, you can still leave.” She said and I shook my head. “I am not leaving you.” I said but she shook her head. “You have to. Once he gets here and finds out…” My mother said and she stuttered on a sob before taking a breath. “When- when he finds out that I have disobeyed his orders…” My mother spoke and she was starting to visibly shake now so that my father had to come and take her in his arms to comfort her. I felt confused and I saw that I was not the only one.

“Finds out what? Disobeyed whose orders?” I asked and my mother looked up at my dad and they shared a look before my father nodded at her to tell me. “Y-your father.” She spoke and I frowned in confusion as my eyes went to my dad. He looked sad.

“What about dad?” I asked but my parents both shook their heads and a coldness swept over me. “William is not your real father, Abby.” She spoke and I gasped in shock. “W-what?” I asked as a pain stabbed at my heart. No wonder my dad… or William looked so sad right now. I knew how much he loved me and I loved him back just as much. “I am sorry you had to find out like this, honey.” My dad spoke and I could feel a tear leaving my eye. “I… I don’t understand. What are you saying?” I asked as my brain was struggling to accept what was being told to me.

My mother took a breath before she spoke. “Before I married William, my name was Gail brown and I was born into the Violet Moon pack.” She spoke and I held onto her every word as she held onto my father. “When I came of age, I met my mate and as was the normal, we mated.” She spoke. If it weren’t for the situation, we were in right now I would have felt awkward as she spoke about mating.

“But he didn’t mark me… instead he rejected me the next morning, humiliating me in front of everyone because I was not good enough for him.” My mother said and tears ran over her cheeks while my dad continued to comfort her. My heart felt broken for her part and I wanted to comfort her too.

“Why would any gold wolf reject you?” Alpha Marius spoke up, interrupting the conversation. My mother looked at him teary eyed and shook her head. “Because he was not the gold one… I am.” She said and as she spoke, her eyes turned golden and my mouth dropped open in shock. I sort of expected her to be like me. To have purple eyes like me but I was wrong.

Alpha Marcus sucked in a breath and his eyes darted to me and then back to my mother. “If you are not… then that means…” Alpha Marius stuttered, his eyes wide as all eyes remained on my mother. “It means that Abby is the eldest child of Donavan Stone.”
