CHAPTER 16

ABBY POV.

The black wolf leaped towards me just as more wolves came into sight, but I had no time to focus on that. Just as the wolf came down onto me, I swung the stick and hit him on the side of his head as hard as I could. The wolf gave a pained yelp but not before he lashed out a clawed paw towards me and caught me on the arm that had swung the stick. I screamed in pain as I felt his claws slice through my skin, digging into my arm. I crumbled into a heap and cradled my injured arm to my stomach and I saw through tears as the black wolf made a run for it. Apparently, help has arrived and he ran out of time to play with his catch.

Hot tears ran over my face as the searing pain grew. The pain was so much that I didn’t even notice the wolves that had gathered around me. Not even noticing the largest of them, a black and grey wolf with blue eyes, transformed back to his human form and crouched down beside me.

I was startled when hands closed around my face and when I looked up, I looked directly into Marius Moonlock’s concerned face. The adrenalin immediately started to leave my body as the feeling of safety replaced it. I knew he was here to help me and I didn’t even notice that he was crouching naked next to me. “It’s okay, I’ve got you.” He said but his voice sounded far away. I gave a relieved hiccup as my body started to relax, but with it, it was also starting to make its injuries known. My entire body ached but not as much as my arm did. My head had little stabbing pains which hurt my eyes and I shut them against the pounding in my ears. “No no no, Abby. You have to keep your eyes open.” Marius said and I opened them with difficulty.

“M-Marcus?” I asked and he looked at me in surprise. “He’s going to be fine… and so are you.” He said whilst he looked at me worriedly before he barked orders at someone. “Get me a doctor, NOW!” he shouted and I cringed a little inside. Something in his voice was very domineering.

I felt so tired now. All the adrenalin spent in my body. I just needed to rest my eyes for a minute. I thought as I let my eyes drift close. “Abby?” Marius called to me and I only made a noise in my throat in response, but I felt too tired to do anything else. I heard more shuffling of feet around me and then I fell into silence.

MARCUS POV.

“WHERE THE FUCK IS SHE!?” I demanded as I stood against the door frame of my hospital room. It was the only thing keeping me up at the moment and the medical staff didn’t dare to come near me as I had already thrown one of the doctors across the room who tried to restrain me. I knew my mate was here. I felt it as soon as she set foot on our land. I felt her fear and anxiety and even her pain as something ripped into her arm up until a few minutes ago.

“Please young alpha, you need to lie down. Your wounds haven’t started to heal yet.” The one nurse said pleadingly, but I ignored her. “Not until I…” I snapped and the doors burst open, cutting my words short. “I need a doctor… NOW!” My father bellowed as he rushed through the open door with… “ABBY!” I exclaimed and I pushed off from the door frame and rushed to her side. I just reached her when my knees buckled but luckily Mac caught my arm and steadied me. Mac was bleeding from his head and had a claw mark across his chest but otherwise, he looked a hell of a lot better than me. “I- I’m sorry, Marc. I tried to keep her safe.” Mac spoke apologetically and I knew his words were true. He was my only true friend. I pat him on the shoulder, but my eyes were only on my mate. She looked deathly pale and she had blood all over her. Hers, by the smell of it and I felt anger stir in my chest. “Will she live?” I asked as I saw various doctors tend to her immediately on their alpha’s orders. Only a few knew that I had found my mate but I think it was clear to everyone here who this human was to me. No one answered me and that made me more worried.

I was about to grab one of the doctors when one of them spoke, a female doctor. “Her injuries don’t look to severe but he has a nasty bump to her head, but I think she will be able to heal in no time.” She said and I looked at her in disbelief and so did one of the senior doctors. “Are you out of your fucking mind? I asked and she looked taken aback. “W-what?” She stuttered and the senior doctor spoke up. “She’s human, Jessica. She doesn’t heal like we do, now prep the room for surgery.” The doctor barked and Jessica paled before looking at my mate who was lying on the table in front of them. One of the nurses was keeping pressure on her arm that she had just wrapped and was looking at the female doctor with an open mouth of disbelief. “H-human? But…” She spoke and looked at me and then back to Abby before snapping out of it. “Yes doctor, right away, doctor.” She said as her cheeks glowed with embarrassment and she scurried away to prep the room for my mate.

“Alpha. We will do everything we can for her, but your son needs rest in order to heal.” The doctor said sternly and looked at me disapprovingly as I hung onto my beta. “There is nothing you can do for her now but you can be by her side when you are healed, but you need to rest in order for that to happen, young alpha.” The doctor spoke. No ways! I thought but my father cut me to it. “I will make sure he gets the rest that he needs. Thank you, Gregg.” My father said and I was about to argue when he shut me up with a warning look. I watched as the doctors took my mate away and I wanted to go after them.

“Pull yourself together, Marcus! Abby is in Gregg’s care and you know he is the best we have.” My father said and I knew he was right, but it was hard to see Abby like that. “Mac, get your future alpha to a bed and I give you permission to break one of his legs if he dares to get up again before dawn.” My father said and I growled sourly at him. “I need to tend to the pack, but I will be along as soon as possible…” He said and he looked at the few warriors that came in with him and I felt that something was amiss. “I need to speak to you about Abby, but after I have dealt with pack business.” My father said and I looked to Mac who also had a confused look on his face. My father stood and eyed me and I nodded.
