Chapter 113 THE BREACH
Chapter 113 THE BREACH
I stare at the blueprints on my desk until the blue ink just blurs into a mess of useless lines.
My head is pounding and my eyes burn because I haven't slept in two days. I can't sleep because every time I close my eyes, I just see her strapped to a cold metal table with needles in her arms and it makes me want to rip my own skin off.
Oliver is talking to me but I don't hear a single word he says.
I am just a hollow shell waiting for a signal that feels like it's never going to come.
And then I feel it.
It hits me so hard my knees actually buckle and I have to grab the edge of the heavy wooden desk to stay on my feet.
It isn't a scream of pain and it isn't a wave of panic.
It is a sharp clean strike straight down the center of our tether and it feels like a spark of raw electricity hitting my heart.
Get ready, Alpha. I know how to open the door.
I stop breathing.
The message just echoes in my skull and my wolf goes absolutely insane, clawing at my ribs and demanding blood because she's awake. She tricked them and she's awake and she has a plan.
She is so brave it actually hurts my chest.
I rip the blueprint off the table and throw it on the floor.
"Oliver!" I roar and my voice is so loud the glass in the office windows shakes.
He stops talking and stares at me, his hand dropping to the gun on his hip because I sound completely unhinged.
"She gave the signal," I tell him and my hands are shaking with so much adrenaline I can barely form the words. "She found the way in and we are going right now."
Oliver goes pale and he steps toward me with his hands up like he's trying to calm down a wild animal.
"Abel we can't do that," he says and his voice is tight. "The strike is planned for tomorrow night, we don't have the northern packs here yet and the sun is still up."
I grab him by the front of his shirt and slam him against the wall.
"I don't care about the plan Oliver," I growl right in his face and I can feel my fangs pushing through my gums. "I don't care about the sun and I don't care about the northern packs. My mate is in a concrete box with a monster and I am not making her wait another twenty-four hours."
He looks at my eyes and he sees the silver bleeding into them and he knows I am entirely dead serious.
"Okay," Oliver gasps and I let him go. "Okay Alpha. I'll get Marcus and we arm up."
I leave the office and I don't walk down the stairs, I take them three at a time.
We go down to the sub-basement armory and it smells like gun oil and cold iron and sweat.
My men are already moving, grabbing assault rifles and loading heavy magazines into tactical vests because they heard me shouting and they know what it means. It's loud and it's chaotic and it is so incredibly real.
There are no magic tricks down here, just heavy metal and raw violence because Kane Hellboud crossed a line and I am going to make him choke on his own blood.
I grab a Kevlar vest and strap it over my chest, pulling the straps so tight they bruise my ribs. I want the pain. I need the pain to keep me focused so I don't just shift and run the whole way there on four legs and get myself killed before I can reach her.
Marcus runs into the armory carrying a heavy canvas bag of explosives.
"Alpha we have a massive problem," Marcus pants and he drops the bag on a metal table with a heavy thud. "The High Council still has the blockade at the bottom of the mountain. Three armored trucks and twenty armed men and if we roll out with a strike team they will fire on us before we even hit the highway."
I rack the slide on my rifle and the metallic clack echoes off the concrete walls.
"Then we drive right through them."
Marcus stares at me like I've lost my mind. "Abel that is a direct act of war against the Council. They will execute you."
"Let them try," I say flatly.
I walk out to the motor pool where the heavy black SUVs are lined up with their engines running and the exhaust smells like diesel and dirt.
Fifty of my best fighters are standing by the trucks. They are dressed in black tactical gear and they look scared and angry but they are looking straight at me for instructions.
I don't give them a speech about honor or duty because none of that matters right now.
I walk to the front of the line and my eyes go completely silver and I let my Alpha aura push out until the air is heavy and suffocating and every single wolf in the room drops their chin in submission.
"Kane Hellboud is torturing my mate," I say and my voice echoes off the concrete ceiling like a physical blow. "He has her locked in a cage and I am going to tear his entire facility down to the dirt."
No one moves. They just stare at me.
"If the Council gets in our way we run them over," I continue and my blood is boiling so hot I feel like I'm on fire. "If his guards try to stop us we shoot them. We do not stop and we do not hesitate and we do not leave until Kane is dead."
The wolves roar.
It is a deafening feral sound that vibrates right through my boots. They aren't businessmen right now, they are predators and they are ready to kill.
"Mount up!" Oliver shouts, slapping the hood of the lead truck.
I get into the passenger seat of the first SUV and Oliver gets behind the wheel.
He slams the truck into gear and we tear out of the garage, the tires squealing on the concrete and leaving thick black marks behind us.
We drive down the winding mountain road and I stare out the windshield, my jaw clenched so tight my teeth actually ache.
The trees blur past us in a dark smear of green and brown.
"They're waiting at the bridge," Oliver says and his voice is tight with tension.
I look ahead and I see the flashing red and blue lights blocking the only road out of our territory. Three heavy armored vehicles are parked sideways across the pavement and a line of Council enforcers are standing behind them with rifles raised.
They think we are going to stop.
They think because they have badges and Council authority that I am going to hit the brakes and negotiate with them.
They don't understand that I have absolutely nothing left to lose.
"Don't stop," I tell Oliver.
"Abel, they're aiming at us."
"I said do not stop!" I roar. "Hit them!"
Oliver grips the steering wheel and he slams his foot down on the gas pedal.
The SUV surges forward and the engine screams.
The enforcers realize we aren't slowing down and they scatter, dropping their weapons and diving out of the way into the muddy ditches on the side of the road.
We hit the barricade at seventy miles an hour.
The impact is a deafening crash of crunching metal and shattering glass. The airbags deploy and punch me in the chest but we blast right through the gap between their trucks, shoving tons of metal out of our way like it's nothing.
Our SUV fishtails wildly on the wet pavement but Oliver wrestles control of the wheel and we straighten out, leaving the ruined blockade behind us in a cloud of smoke and dust.
The other trucks in our convoy follow right behind us, pouring through the gap and onto the main highway.
We did it.
We just declared war on the entire supernatural establishment but I don't care at all. I would burn the entire world to ash if it meant keeping her safe.
I reach up and rip the deflated airbag out of my way, breathing hard.
My heart is pounding and my hands are completely numb from gripping the door handle.
I pull out my phone and check the tracking coordinates Freya uploaded. We are exactly forty minutes away from Serenity Hills.
Forty minutes until I break down the doors and find the man who put his hands on my wife.
I check my rifle again just to have something to do with my hands, checking the magazine and the safety because if I don't focus on the weapon I am going to lose my mind.
I think about her trapped in that room. I think about the way she looked when she smiled at me in the solarium and the way she felt in my arms and the absolute terror in her eyes when Margaret took her away.
I close my eyes and I reach deep down into the center of my chest, finding that heavy quiet tether that connects my soul to hers.
It's faint because she's hiding it but I know she can feel me.
I push all my rage and my desperate frantic love straight down the line, pushing it as hard as I can so she knows she isn't alone in the dark.
I'm coming Evie.
I'm right here and I'm coming to burn it all down.
I open my eyes and stare at the road ahead.
Kane Hellboud made a mistake when he thought he could take what belongs to me.
He thought he was dealing with a businessman who plays by the rules but he forgot what I really am.
I am an Alpha.
And tonight I am going to remind him exactly what that means.
