Chapter 165

Chapter 165

Day broke.

Isabella had set her alarm. Though she didn't want to get up, she still forced herself to crawl out of bed.

Seeing the suggestive marks on her body, she quickly found some modest clothing to put on, did her makeup carefully, and was about to leave. But as soon as she walked out of the bedroom, she saw someone sitting on the sofa.

Michael's face was dark and gloomy.

He sat on the sofa with his legs crossed in a lazy posture, but his whole body gave off a "stay away" vibe.

Walking out the door, Isabella raised her hand to say hello, but Michael didn't even glance at her.

Was he angry?

Isabella took a deep breath and decided to quietly leave. She tiptoed toward the door, and just as she was about to leave, Michael's cold voice rang out.

"Don't you have anything to say?"

Michael's voice clearly carried anger.

Isabella blinked, "Do you need something?"

She checked the time—she was about to be late.

Michael laughed bitterly.

Anger, unwillingness, and a sense of losing control spread through his chest.

His fury kept rising, and reason had been torn apart by impulse.

Michael suddenly stood up, grabbed Isabella's slender wrist, and pulled her into his arms.

"Are you playing dumb, or do you just not care about me anymore? You don't care at all about my feelings."

"Can't you see I'm angry? Why won't you comfort me? Why won't you say sweet things and act cute to make me happy like you used to? Or have you completely started ignoring me?"

By the end, Michael's voice got louder and louder, almost shouting.

Looking at the man in front of her with bulging veins on his forehead and a face full of anger, Isabella just looked confused.

"If you wanted me to comfort you, you should have just said so."

Though she already knew about Michael's stubborn personality, hearing this still made Isabella sigh inwardly.

Some people are just like that.

They don't cherish what they have, only realizing its importance after losing it.

Such people are quite ridiculous.

But since her benefactor had spoken, as his mistress she naturally had to comply.

Isabella put her bag aside, stood on her tiptoes, wrapped her arms around Michael's neck, and smiled brightly, "Okay, don't be angry anymore. I don't know why you're angry, but being angry is bad for your health. And did you not sleep well last night? Your dark circles are pretty heavy. Hurry up and get ready to go to the company. Work is your life."

Michael's chest heaved violently, as if a hand was squeezing his heart, making it hard to breathe.

His eyes held a brewing storm.

Michael completely lost control. This feeling was terrible.

Since childhood, what he hated most was this feeling of uncertainty, and in his eyes, he should be in control of everything. Everything should be within his control, and nothing should happen outside his plans.

He held Isabella's slender waist and said coldly, "So you never planned to follow the contract from the start, did you? If you keep this up, believe me, I'll take other actions. Don't pretend to comply in front of me. Do you really think you can keep this up forever?"

Isabella took a deep breath, "Of course not, but you know I'm a person with real feelings. And I'm too busy with work now—I can't focus on two things at once. Before, you were my whole world, but now it's different. I have to work, make money, care about my mom abroad. There's really so much to do."

Before, her world had only one thing—loving Michael.

But now it's different. She has to make money, work, and care for her family. And of course, there's one more important thing—hating him and getting revenge on him.

Of course, she couldn't say these things out loud.

Michael watched Isabella calmly explain everything, his jaw tight, his expression even darker.

What was she saying? Was she telling him he was no longer her whole world?

Michael's mood became even more complicated, and a sense of panic had spread, like a seed taking root and sprouting in his chest.

Suddenly remembering something, he forcefully pushed her away.

"Who do you think you are? Thinking you can easily affect my mood—don't even think about it." He turned and left.

The door slammed shut.

Looking at the poor door, Isabella pursed her lips.

Michael was becoming more and more moody. Before, with his noble young master image, even when angry he wouldn't take it out on objects.

After a few years, he'd actually developed violent tendencies.

She'd have to be more careful in the future. What if Michael hit her? She couldn't take a beating from Michael.

More importantly, if he had violent tendencies, what should she do?

Michael had already left. Isabella gathered herself and went to the company.

After handling work matters, before Eric left, Isabella caught up with him.

"I know you have your own connections and channels for investigating things. I want to ask you for a favor. Money is no problem—I can pay."

Having just returned to the country, Isabella really didn't know many people and could only ask him for help.

Seeing Eric nod, Isabella directly told him about Stella's situation.

A few minutes later.

Eric's face looked terrible, "They're so bold—they even dare to threaten you?"

Stella's matter had been online for several days. It was hard not to know about it.

He'd thought the matter had come to an end, but unexpectedly those people had such wild ambitions, still trying to overturn the case.

They clearly had no respect for the law.

Eric led Isabella into a conference room, then took out his computer, "You should have come to me earlier about this. Leave it to me—no problem. Finding those victims isn't hard. We just need to get their bank statements and we can find clues."

He immediately contacted a friend and quickly obtained those people's bank statements.

"They have too many accounts. Normally, this kind of thing involves at least millions. Let's just look at million-level unusual transactions. Let's work together."

These people had overseas accounts plus domestic accounts—too many. One person couldn't handle it all.

So the two of them worked together, starting to check unusual transactions.

Several hours later.

Isabella looked at those shocking numbers, grinding her teeth in hatred.

"How dare these bastards? Whether domestic or overseas, they've harmed so many innocent girls."

Though she didn't know the specific details, just looking at these transfer amounts, she knew that at least hundreds of people had been victimized.

Not only that, there were also many hospital bills.
