Chapter 96 Yu Mi Sister
“I’m so sorry for what I have done, and I will not fault you for getting angry at me. I’m so angry at myself,” Avery said. Tears spilled down her cheeks, dropping to the wooden floorboards like raindrops. Her body shivered, and she couldn’t bear to look up at Leitana. Guilt and disgust still churned inside her.
Matheo stood beside her, watching silently. His hand twitched with the urge to reach out and wrap around hers, but he didn’t dare. The weight of eyes on him coming from beside Leitana kept him frozen.
He looked away from Avery and met Ravial’s gaze. A shiver ran down his spine. He didn’t fully understand why Ravial was staring at him well, he kind of did. He wasn’t supposed to be in this study; this was a family matter. But Avery herself had insisted he come with her when he was about to drop her off at the main villa building.
Still, he couldn’t explain why a grown man like him felt so unnerved by another man’s look. The blindfold only made it worse, he couldn’t see Ravial’s eyes, and that was deeply unsettling.
“Please just find it in your heart to forgive me, and then I’ll pack my bags and leave, and…” Before Avery could finish, Leitana cut her off.
Leitana looked at her twin, arms wrapped tightly around her chest. For the first time, Avery saw an expression on Leitana’s face she’d never seen before, not just hurt, but deep disappointment. Of course she’d seen hurt before; she’d caused it herself.
“Where yu go, huh? For dat evil man to kill yu? Kill Leroy family?” Leitana asked.
Avery’s eyes went wide. She opened her mouth to respond, but Leitana shook her head.
“No, plis, let me talk. Yu go nowhere. Mi understand yu had no choice. Father… no, dat man, not mi pap. He is a killer. He threaten yu, kill your lover. Mi feel your pain. Yu deeply hurt.”
With each word, Leitana took a step closer, more tears spilling down her own cheeks. She stopped right in front of Avery.
“Though mi not happy yu no tell me. No, yu tried to make mi feel guilty about mi marriage, tried to pull me away…”
Avery let out a broken cry and covered her face with her hands. Leitana shook her head. She reached out, gently pulling Avery’s hands away. When Avery tried to look away, Leitana reached up and guided her chin back, forcing their eyes to meet.
Leitana’s small hand stayed gentle on Avery’s chin, holding her twin’s tear-streaked face steady even as her own eyes shimmered.
“But mi not angry at yu,” she repeated softly, voice thick with emotion. “Mi see yu pain. Yu lost so much. Yu abused. Mi hurt for yu too. Yu no deserve dat.”
Avery’s breath hitched, fresh tears spilling over Leitana’s fingers. She tried to look away again, shame burning through her, but Leitana wouldn’t let her.
“Yu no go nowhere,” Leitana said firmly, though her voice trembled. “Yu stay here. Wit mi. Safe. Mi help yu get Leroy family out from dat evil man grip. He no hurt nobody again. Mi promise.”
Avery’s eyes flew wide, confusion cutting through the guilt. “How? He’s… he’s powerful, Leitana. He has people. Money. Connections. He’ll…”
Leitana shook her head, curls bouncing. “No. Mi husband more powerful.”
She turned slightly, glancing back at Ravial.
He stood motionless near the fireplace, arms folded, blindfold hiding whatever was brewing behind it. But the room felt colder just from his presence.
Avery’s gaze followed Leitana’s, landing on Ravial. She swallowed hard.
“How?” she whispered again, voice cracking. “He… he doesn’t even like me. Why would he….”
Leitana turned back to her twin, eyes shining with quiet certainty.
“Yu tell our father, dat man, yu succeed. Tell him yu take Ravial from mi. Tell him yu win.”
Avery blinked. “What?”
“We deceive him,” Leitana said simply. “Yu play along. Tell him everyting he wan hear. Tell him yu close to Ravial now. Tell him yu in control. He go relax. He go think he safe. And while he think dat… Ravial go move.”
She glanced at her husband again, a small, trusting smile touching her lips.
“Him go protect Leroy family. Him go make sure dat man no touch nobody again. Him go end it. Quiet. Clean. No one know until it done.”
Avery stared at her sister like she was seeing her for the first time, really seeing her.
“You… you would do that? For me? After everything I.. ”
Leitana stepped closer, wrapping both arms around Avery in a tight hug. Avery stiffened for half a second, then collapsed into it, sobbing against her twin’s shoulder.
“Yu mi sister,” Leitana whispered into her hair. “No matter what. Mi love yu. Always.”
Avery clung to her, shaking, tears soaking Leitana’s shirt.
Ravial watched in silence, expression unreadable.
But his hand flexed once at his side, once, like a predator deciding the hunt was already won.
Matheo, still standing next to her, finally spoke, voice low and rough.
“If this is real… if you’re really gonna help Leroy’s family…” He looked straight at Ravial, unflinching despite the shiver that ran down his spine. “I’m in. Whatever you need.”
Ravial’s head tilted just slightly.
A small, dangerous curve touched his lips.
“Good,” he said quietly.
The room held its breath.
Because in that single word, everyone understood:
The game had just changed.
And the devil had already decided who would lose.
