Chapter 268 Eyes Not For You
Chapter 268 Eyes Not For You
LEITANA
l lifted my hand and pushed one part of the blindfold aside.
Ravial’s hand shot up instantly, grabbing my wrist with firm but careful strength. With his other hand, he gently pushed the fabric back into place, covering his eye without opening it. He sat up slowly, pulling me with him, his body tense against mine.
“What are you doing?” he asked, his voice was calm but I could hear the edge beneath it.
My heart pounded so hard it felt like it would burst out of my chest. I looked up at him, my hand still held in his grip, the words tumbling out before I could stop them.
“Why can’t I see your eyes, mi Ravial?”
He stayed silent for a long moment, his thumb stroking the inside of my wrist in slow, soothing circles. His blindfolded face was impossible to read, but I felt the way his body had gone still, like a storm held back by sheer will.
“You don’t need to see them,” he said replied. “They are not for you.”
The words hurt more than I expected. I pulled my hand back gently, sitting up straighter on the bed. My voice came out softer, but I wasn't going to give up.
“Why? I'm your wife. Why can't I see your eyes? Mi will not care if they scarred. You are always beautiful to me.”
Ravial reached for me again, cupping my face with both hands, thumbs brushing my cheeks. His touch was gentle, but his body was still rigid with tension.
“Leitana,” he said, the warning clear in his voice. “Some things are better left hidden. My eyes… they are not kind.”
I shook my head, tears pricking my eyes. I was getting more angry now, the frustration and love mixing together in a way I couldn’t hold back.
“Mi your wife,” I repeated, voice trembling but firm. “Mi see every part of you. The good, the bad, the scary. Why not your eyes? Why hide from mi when mi already love all of you?”
He stayed silent, thumbs still stroking my cheeks, then leaned in and pressed his forehead to mine, breathing heavily.
“Because if you saw them,” he whispered, voice filled with raw emotion, “you might not look at me the same way again. And I can’t lose that.”
I closed my eyes, tears slipping down my cheeks. My hands came up to hold his wrists, keeping his palms on my face.
“Mi love you,” I whispered back. “No matter what. Even if your eyes burn like fire. I will still love you.”
Ravial’s breath hitched. He pulled me closer, wrapping his arms around me tightly, burying his face in my neck.
“Sleep, my lamb,” he murmured against my skin. “We’ll talk more when the sun comes up. For now… just let me hold you.”
I nodded, exhausted, letting him pull me down into his arms. But even as I drifted back to sleep, the question lingered in my heart.
Why won’t you let me see you completely?
The next morning came too quietly. Golden sunlight filtered through the curtains, but the warmth felt distant. I woke first, still wrapped in Ravial’s arms, his large hand resting protectively over my belly. For one fragile second, I let myself savor his steady heartbeat against my back.
Then the memory of last night crashed over me, his refusal, the way he hid from me even now.
I tried to slip free. The moment I moved, his arm tightened, pulling me back against his chest.
“Where are you going, my lamb?” His voice was rough with sleep, warm and intimate.
I stayed stiff in his hold. “To bathe. Alone.”
Silence stretched between us. I could feel him studying me through the blindfold. His hand lingered on my waist a moment longer, then slowly released me.
I didn’t look at him as I grabbed a robe and escaped to the bathroom. The door clicked shut behind me, and I leaned against it, chest tight. Why won’t you let me in?
The shower did little to wash away the ache. Hot water mixed with silent tears as the same questions spun through my mind. What are you hiding from your own wife?
When I finally stepped out, Ravial was already dressed, sitting on the edge of the bed like he’d been waiting. His blindfolded gaze followed my every movement.
“Breakfast is ready,” he said softly. “I had them prepare your favorites.”
I nodded, barely glancing his way. “Thank you.”
The silence while I dressed felt heavier than any words. I chose a simple loose dress, one that hid how much my hands were trembling. Ravial stood and offered his hand. I took it, but my grip stayed loose, distant.
We walked downstairs together without speaking.
Rosie was already at the table, swinging her legs happily with Mr. Fluffy beside her plate. The second she saw us, her face lit up.
“Morning, Lei! Morning, Mr. Ravial!”
I forced a warm smile and pulled her into a tight hug. “Morning, mi baby.”
I kept my attention on Rosie the entire meal, asking about the orphanage, what she wanted to do today, anything to fill the quiet. Every time Ravial tried to brush his fingers against mine under the table, I gently pulled away. Not angrily. Just… away.
He noticed.
Of course he did.
His body grew more tense with every rejection, but he said nothing. He simply watched me with that quiet, burning intensity that always made my heart ache.
