Chapter 80 - HEIRESS'S SECOND CHANCE BILLIONAIRE
Chapter Eighty “Love & Lawsuits.”
Christian Kingston.
“It is indeed bad,” Carter, my assistant, stated, briefing us on the situation in general. I had him do a general assessment of everything before we got here, wanting to tackle the issue with Isabella by her side. “Pretty much as much as you had already predicted.”
That was what I thought. I was on my way out for a meeting with a potential client of mine when Carter drew my attention to the sudden issue swimming around, and simply from seeing the articles, I knew my meeting could be damned. I called in a rain check, and changed my destination to Isabella’s immediately.
I had a feeling throughout our day in yesterday that we would be facing that which we avoided today. I just did not think it would come with this force, this quick. It was good I had thought of planning ahead to tackle it so the minute it came up, I brought my team along immediately.
We are all currently in one of the meeting rooms, secluded on the top floor to provide privacy from the prying eyes of the people here. I saw the way they looked at Isabella, and I have no doubt she notices it as well. So, I had the floor cleared of them all, in case anyone wants to eavesdrop on the conversation. I have guards that I brought along with me in case stationed in the hallway, but I still have my doubts.
“What do you suggest we do?” I asked from where I stood by the entrance, arms crossed over my chest as I leaned against the wall, on lookout for anyone that will even dare to peep. I kept my gaze on Carter whom stood at the head of the table, summarizing it all for us. “What is the best way to tackle the issue? What did the PR team suggest we do?” I asked, referring to the PR team of my company.
It is not that I do not trust Isabella’s workers, or that I am trying to take over. But, my team is the best there is, there is no arguing with that. I cannot trust anyone else to handle her situation other than them.
Carter threw a quick glance at Isabella whom is seated on the chair at the helm, then met my gaze as he gave me his response. “They suggested we do nothing for now,” He said, his voice low, as if knowing I would not like the response. He was right, the glare I sent his way had him adding almost immediately, “There is too much fire ongoing on the matter. Whatever response we give would only back fire. Not when the people are too much against her.” He turned his head and rested his gaze on Isabella, “I am sorry to say, Mrs. Kingston, but things are not looking so good in your favor. Unless you have something strong to contradict it?” His tone implies he believes everything there is true as well, and I hated it.
“The recording is not true,” Isabella’s voice came for the first time, as she seems too stunned by everything that she just shut down for a while, her expression blank but I could see the turmoil in her eyes though she tries to hide it. “It has been edited, that was not our entire conversation.” She lifted her gaze to meet Carter’s. “It has been manipulated to make it sound as though what you all heard is it, when it is not.”
“Do you mind sharing the full story then?” Carter asked, “Because if we are to counter attack then we will need something solid to defend you, something irrevocable and strong enough to sway the public’s attention.”
Isabella kept her lips sealed, her brows drawn in, in a way that shows she is thinking over his words, weighing them trying to decide on her decision. “I do not want to disclose that,” She said instead, her tone determined. I do not know why, but I feel as though whatever it is she is keeping will help do exactly what is needed at the moment. But, if she is holding it in instead of using it to save herself, then she must have a reason. That is what I believe, and I choose to trust her decision as so. “Let us find another way to sway the public’s mind.”
“Mrs. Kingston…”
“I will not disclose it,” Isabella repeated more firmly, her gaze on Carter in a way that shows she has no intention of backing down on this. I watched as she fisted her hand by her side, then she added. “If comes down to me apologizing to have this anger of theirs lessen, then so be it.” There has to be a strong, valid reason, there just has to be.
Else the Isabella I know will not just succumb to taking the short end of the stick when she clearly has a card that will take her to the upper level. She is not the type to back down this easily, everyone knows that.
Her words had everyone, from Carter, to Amy, and I staring at her with curious and surprised eyes, wondering where the words came from. Except, while I simply stood, observing her features closely to try and tell what is going on in her mind, the others were quick to raise their questions.
“Mrs. Kingston, I do not think apologizing is a good idea right now. It will only make you guilty.” Carter tries to dissuade her.
Amy voiced her own question, aligning with Carter’s, “Isabella, Carter is right. It is best to keep silent for now, while the PR team thinks of a better way to handle this issue so it does not backfire on us any further.”
Isabella’s fingers drummed the table, not seeming to be moved by their words in the slightest. “The PR team can think of something later on. But, I will issue a public apology first,” She stopped the act of drumming her fingers, a silent gesture that her mind has been set to stone. “The public is right, I did play a role in this and apologizing is the least I can do.”
Carter gave me a look that asked me to step in and dissuade her, “Mrs. Kingston--”
“Isabella…” Amy seems against it as well.
I tilted my head to the side, then parted my lips to speak. “You do just that,” My words had them all looking at me, surprised by her response—even Isabella seems surprised that I am easily supporting this. I pushed myself off the wall and strolled towards the table, keeping my gaze on her when I added. “You do what you feel like you need to, and I will do what I have to as well.”
“Which is?” Isabella asked, her brows cinched together.
I turned to look at Carter, then gave him my instructions. “Have my lawyers file a lawsuit against every single person whim dropped malicious comments about my wife,” My tone was stern, leaving no room for second thoughts. “And I mean every single one who dares to drop malicious comments, and I want it done now.”
