Chapter 46 Two Damsel's in distress.
I had ordered my men to track Celeste.
Charlotte had been sent into our bedroom with men watching her, keeping her safe. If something happened to her, then both Alexander and I would be going insane. It would be better if one of us was okay.
I watched him pace around like a mad man , a wine glass was tightly clutched in his hand.
“Relax, we won't find her even if you go crazy,” I said.
I heard his breath shake as he moved to sit in front of me. “This is all my fault,” his glass made a gentle thud as he placed it on the table.
My curiosity piqued and I leaned forward, “How so?”
He raked his hand through his hair in frustration, “I'm the idiot who started working with Celeste in the first place. If I didn't, Ezera wouldn't be in this mess. It's all my fault.”
“You are not an idiot. You are a man who is doing everything in his power to save his girlfriend's life, and I applaud you for that.” I stood up from my seat and walked closer to him. “Ezera is going to be fine, I promise.” I placed my hand on his shoulder and squeezed it gently.
“Celeste won't hurt her,” I continued. “If she wanted to, she would do it on the spot. For now, all we can do is wait for my guys to find her.”
He didn't respond, and I didn't expect him to either. I placed my glass of wine on the table before him and began to walk off.
When I reached our bedroom, I saw Charlotte wide awake. She was face up on the bed.
“I thought you were asleep." I slowly walked towards her.
“I was,” she swallowed.
I slid into bed with her, and bringing the blanket, I covered her up with it. “I came back to you safe, like I promised.”
She smiled faintly. She was still dizzy from the alcohol. “Thank you,” she whispered.
Her face suddenly turned into a frown, and she gagged. I quickly cupped my hand over her mouth, but nothing came out, thankfully.
“I think I'm going to throw up.” Her voice was strained.
“I know, honey.” I tossed the blanket aside and lifted her out of bed. I carried her into the bathroom, bent her over the sink, and held her hair back.
She gagged again. “Oh… God, it hurts.” She placed her hand on her stomach and rubbed it.
“It's okay, love. I think you drank a little too much.” I rubbed my hand against her back.
“Mmph!” A loud, guttural gag escaped her as she finally vomited into the sink. She tightly squeezed her stomach as she threw up again.
After she was sure it was over, she rinsed her mouth with water and turned to face me. I picked her up in my arms and led her back into the bedroom.
I placed her on the bed and covered her back up with the blanket. She shut her eyes and turned to the side. I squeezed her shoulders gently. “I'm glad you are okay,” I whispered. I couldn't imagine what I would have done if Celeste had gotten to Charlotte instead. It would have killed me.
There was a knock on the door. It was loud and urgent.
I quickly walked to the door and pulled it open. Alexander stood before me, panting heavily. “They found her in an old abandoned building.”
“Let's go,” I said hastily. As I shut the door, I turned to face the soldiers guarding the door. “Get my wife some hangover medicine when she wakes up.”
They nodded and said in unison, “Yes, boss!”
I turned to look in Alexander's direction, my feet thundering against the wooden floor as I ran after him.
Thirty minutes later, we arrived at the site.
The rhythmic thundering of boots filled the air as my soldiers ran into the building before us to scout the place.
While we waited, Alexander paced around anxiously.
Soon, one of the soldiers ran out. “Boss!” he shouted, lifting a phone in his hand above his head.
Alexander's gaze snapped up. “Is she in there?”
The soldier shook his head. “No, but I found this.” He held the phone out to us.
Alexander and I moved closer until we heard Ezera's voice from the phone. “Please… I don't want to die,” her voice was distorted and she cried uncontrollably.
Ezera was one of my strongest soldiers. If she cried like that, then Celeste was hurting her.
“Ezera,” Alexander grabbed the phone and drew it close to his mouth, “I'm coming for you, Ezera, I swear!” he vowed.
“I don't think I'll make it.” Her voice shook. “She's taking me to a…” I waited for what she was about to say, but her voice trailed off.
“Ezera? She's taking you where? Ezera!” Alexander barked.
“Well, I can't let her say it now, can I?” Celeste's distorted voice came through the phone. “Where's the fun in that?”
“Celeste, where is she?” I asked calmly.
“Oh… no rush, Davenport. You'll find out in due time, first I need to make Alexander know that nobody betrays me, I want him to know what happens to snakes, and as for you Davenport…brace yourself for my next plan, you'll be surprised at what I have in store for your wife,”
I struggled to contain my anger.
As she talked, one of the soldiers showed me a tablet. He had typed a message on it.
We have tracked her location.
My gaze snapped to Alexander.
I grabbed the tablet and held it up for him to see. His eyes lit up. “If you so much as touch a single hair on her head, I swear to God...”
Celeste laughed, “Only if you can find me, but we both know that not possible,”
Alexander didn't respond.
With a tightly clenched jaw, he slid across the screen and hung up on the call and tossed the phone to the ground. “I want to rip her limb from limb,” he growled as he walked past me towards the car.
Yeah, who didn't?
As we walked to the car my phone rang, I pulled it out of my pocket, without looking at the screen I handed it to a soldier.
He took it and looked at the screen, “It's your wife boss,”
I stopped instantly and grabbed the phone immediately, “Charlotte?” I pressed the phone against my ear, "Is everybody okay?” my expression twisted with concern.
“No…I'm vomiting blood,” her words made a chill run down my spine, panic rose within me.
I looked up at Alexander who was impatiently waiting for me to come.
I squeezed the phone tight against my ear, “I'll be home in a few minutes,” I said to Charlotte, “Please…hang on,”
“Charlotte is in trouble, I have to go home” I said to Alexander, without waiting for a response I dashed towards the other car.
I needed to get home right away.
As my car sped past the
road, all I could think was Celeste’s words.
Wait until you see what I have in store for Charlotte
Was this it?
