Chapter 84 Vignette 76

Chapter 84 Vignette 76
It began the moment the sun rose on her eighteenth year.

The girl’s breath faltered as if some unseen fire had been lit beneath her skin, spreading quick and merciless. By the time the household stirred, she was already trembling, her palms slick, her pupils blown wide. The scent came next…sharp, sweet, intoxicating…rolling off her like smoke from a blaze.

Whispers rippled through the pack. Some turned away, muttering prayers. Others lingered, unable to stop themselves from inhaling that dangerous perfume. Every head lifted, every gaze followed her restless movements as she stumbled through the hall like a creature no longer tethered to her own will.

Her heat had come.

The elders acted swiftly. Rough but careful hands guided her down the corridor, ignoring the low sounds that slipped from her throat…half-whimper, half-plea. She clawed at doorframes, her body arching toward the air, chasing something unseen, something everyone knew too well. Her nails left trails in the wood, her voice broke into a desperate cry.

“Lock her away.”

The command was sharp, urgent. The room was chosen not for comfort but for its strength…the iron bolt, the heavy wood, the lack of windows. She was pushed inside, the door slammed, the lock drawn tight.

Still, her scent seeped through the cracks.

And beyond the hall, where shadows stretched long and thin, the alpha paused mid-stride. His chest rose sharply as the wind carried the fragrance to him…sweet, wild, forbidden. His jaw tightened, eyes burning with a hunger he’d sworn to chain, but rules meant little against the call of instinct.

Her first heat had begun. And the alpha had heard it.

The Alpha stood rooted, every muscle straining as though he could anchor himself against the tide. He had survived battles, bled on foreign soil, commanded obedience with nothing but a glance. Yet this was different. The scent coiled around him like a chain, tugging, tightening, pulling him toward the locked chamber where she writhed in solitude.

He told himself no. He whispered it like a mantra. But each breath filled his lungs with her, and with it came the primal drum of need. Step by step, his boots betrayed him, carrying him down the corridor. His hand brushed the wall as if for balance, though it was not weakness but instinct dragging him closer.

The Alpha’s fists pressed against the doorframe, splinters digging into his palms as if pain alone could anchor him. His chest heaved, each breath pulling in that maddening sweetness seeping from the cracks. The scent wasn’t drifting, it was pouring, clinging, flooding every inch of him. His wolf rose with a snarl, clawing at the walls of his restraint.

Mate. Ours. Claim her.

His mind hissed back…no, she’s too young, she doesn’t understand. But reason was a frail shield against the storm. Every inhale scorched down his throat, thick with the promise of her first heat. It was not perfume; it was her, skin and breath and awakening wolf, calling him with a pull older than language itself.

The Alpha staggered, one hand braced against the wall as if he were drunk. His pulse thundered, veins singing with a rhythm not his own. He wanted to turn away, to lock himself in the furthest corner of the compound until the haze passed.

Instead he surged forward, merciless. His shoulder slammed into the door before he realized he’d moved, the wood rattling against its hinges.

From within, there was a gasp…hers. Soft, startled, trembling. That single sound sliced through him, twisting the ache into something sharper. His breath broke, and suddenly the door wasn’t a barrier at all but an offense, keeping him from what his wolf swore belonged in his arms.

His jaw clenched, teeth grinding as if he could bite back the hunger twisting inside him. “I shouldn't be doing this.” The words were no more than a growl, dragged raw from his throat. Yet his body betrayed him, shoulders tightening as he advanced, every step an unspoken confession that resistance was already lost.

Her pulse matched his, erratic, thunderous. She should have recoiled, should have shrunk into the shadows of her confinement, but her body leaned toward him instead…answering his pull with her own. For all the pack’s locks and rules, for all his vows of control, nothing seemed to matter in that moment but the space…smaller, smaller. Still between them.

When he finally reached her, when his shadow swallowed her own, her breath hitched at the closeness, the raw heat radiating from him. His hands hovered, trembling as if one last thread of restraint held him back.

They didn't say a word to each other. Just stared, her smell coursing through his soul, and the pull for him made her chest rise violently.

He wished he could resist. He tried to. But it was practically impossible. He badly wanted to claim her, bond and mark her.

The pull of restraint faded slowly, growls rumbling in his throat and stopping at the gate of his clenched teeth.

She moaned. Didn't realize when she did, her body rising from the floor.

He knelt to reach her, their bodies only a few inches apart.

He shifted closer, tightening the distance between them.

Now their breath hit against each other, lips trembling, hands lifting to touch, to feel.

He grazed his finger lightly on her neck, sharp claws tickling on her skin. She moaned again.

Then he wrapped his fingers around her neck, her pulse rising and dropping.

“So fucking young, yet doing nasty and dangerous things to me… to my cock.”

She looked down at his thighs…between them. Then she gasped. His size made her gasp. The way his cock pushed against his trousers like a seed breaking its way out of the earth crust.

She moaned, “please Alpha, claim me,” she cried out.

He leaned forward, his lips hovering near hers. swallowing each other's breath.

Then he tightened his fingers around her neck. She shut her eyes, waiting for his lips to engulf hers.

But then—

Footsteps.

Fast approaching.

His senses heightened with alert. He turned around sharply, hands still on her neck. Her eyes shot open looking around too.

Then they heard whispers alongside the footsteps coming forward.

The Alpha quickly rose to his feet, staggering backward. The footsteps thudded the ground just a few feet away from the room.

He turned to her and dropped one last glance. Then with lightning speed, he disappeared from the room.

She fell back, her back hitting the wall, panting in frustration, her hand rumpling her hair, frustration wracking through her wolf, she growled.
