Chapter 42~DRUNK CONFESSIONS
Chapter 42~DRUNK CONFESSIONS
~Cherry
What?” I asked, rolling my eyes as Nathan kept staring at me after we stepped away.
“I don’t know… what’s happening,” Nathan said softly, still staring into my eyes. “But Cherry, I feel like I’ve known you my whole life. I feel you.”
My heart started pounding wildly. I took a step back, trying hard to calm the fire burning inside me.
“You’re wrong, Nathan. I’m nothing but your fan,” I said, forcing a nervous laugh.
Before he could say another word, Jason came between us and grabbed my hand.
“What’s going on here, babe?” he asked, looking straight at Nathan.
“Nothing, Jason. Let’s go,” I said quickly, pulling him with me.
Still, I couldn’t stop myself from glancing back. Nathan smirked and followed us back to our seats. My stupid heart wouldn’t calm down, and my eyes wouldn’t stop finding him in the crowd especially when he smiled at Tasha. It burned.
Jason tried everythinf@g to make me laugh during the party. I did smile, but it was fake.
Mom looked so happy tonight it had been so long since I’d seen her smile like that. I should’ve been happy too. But my smile disappeared the moment Tasha kissed Nathan, and he didn’t even push her away. I swear, that girl knew how to ruin my mood.
“I’m using the washroom,” I whispered to Jason and hurried off. But before I could go far, I tripped and fell. Everyone looked. I wanted the floor to swallow me whole. Nathan and Tasha stared like I was something weird. If Jason hadn’t rushed over, I’d have fainted.
“Are you okay?” he asked, helping me up.
“Can you please get me out of here?” I whispered, hiding my face in his chest.
“Alright,” he said and scooped me up in his arms.
“Oh my God, you didn’t have to do that,” I said awkwardly as he carried me.
“Remember, you promised to play along. How will Nathan believe we’re in love if we don’t act like it?” he said, staring at me.
“I mean… people will talk—”
“Who cares about people? It’s always you, Cherry,” he said softly.
“You have to go, Jason. I’ll be back,” I said quickly, slipping away.
“Careful, clumsy,” he chuckled.
“Okay,” I forced a smile.
In the washroom, I stared at my reflection. I didn’t even recognize myself anymore. My heart was heavy I could barely breathe. Why was I reacting like this? Everything that happened to Nathan was because of me. I didn’t deserve him. Maybe I should’ve been happy for him and Tasha they looked perfect together. But instead, here I was crying and ruining my makeup over someone else’s fiancé.
Wow, I really was a bad person.
I stayed in there for a long time. Jason was still waiting outside when I came out. He didn’t say anything, just took my hand and led me back to the hall.
As expected, Belinda jumped in right away.
“Nothing,” I said before she could ask too much.
“The chemistry between you and Jason is crazy. Maybe you should actually try,” she whispered.
“You’re dumb,” I whispered back.
“I know. But it’s obvious, you still love Nathan. Cut it off, Cherry. You two can’t do this,” she whispered again.
“Screw everything,” I said, laughing like an idiot as I grabbed a glass of wine.
I downed it in one sip. Belinda tried to stop me, but I poured another.
“That’s not a good idea, Cherry,” Jason said, watching as I went for a third.
My heart was already heavy and then suddenly there were two Jasons, two Belindas, two Toms wait, two Nathans? Well… I could take one.
After the third glass, I laughed out loud. “Tasha, you’re so greedy! You’ve got two Nathans! Leave one for me!”
“What are you saying?” Belinda said, covering my mouth.
“She’s drunk,” she said awkwardly.
“She’s crazy!” Tasha snapped.
“I’m not drunk,” I said, glaring at her. “Also, I really hate you, Tasha.”
“I know and I hate you too, dummy. Everyone knows that.”
“Let’s get out of here, Cherry,” Jason whispered.
“I’m not going anywhere! It’s my mom’s birthday! Everyone, let’s celebrate!” I said loudly, raising an empty glass.
Nathan chuckled, shaking his head.
“And you!” I said, pointing at him. “I hate you too! Why’d you have to lose your memory?” I sniffled.
“Jason, let’s get her out of here,” Belinda whispered. But before they could drag me away, I stumbled toward Nathan. I looked into his eyes… and slowly touched his abs.
He didn’t stop me. But Tasha did, too late, though, because I threw up. On him.
“Ew!” Tasha screamed
Nathan sighed, staring down at me. I just smiled, dizzy, as Jason and Belinda pulled me away.
“She doesn’t drink that easily. I wonder what’s going on in that small head of hers,” Belinda muttered.
“I can’t wait to tell her what she caused tomorrow,” Jason said.
“I can hear you!” I said weakly, still throwing up.
“They don’t even look good together! Kissing? My foot! They should’ve just made love already! I don’t care!” I said loudly.
“Easy, dummy,” Belinda said, patting my back.
“You’re not facing Nathan tomorrow,” Jason warned.
“Why not? It’s not like he’s a prince or something! Just arrogant, and holy handsome! Why does he keep getting more handsome?” I cried dramatically.
“Is she okay?” I heard someone ask.
“Nathan? Why are you here?” Steven said loudly.
“Nothing, I was just passing—” before he could finish, I was right in front of him.
“Is he Nathan, or am I dreaming?” I asked, smiling.
“Cherry, don’t,” Belinda said, shaking her head.
I tried to grab his neck but he was too tall, so I held his hand instead.
“Why aren’t you stopping her? She’s drunk,” Jason said sharply.
“Let her be. She’s drunk anyway why are you so worked up?” Nathan said, moving closer to me.
“She’s my girlfriend, jerk!” Jason said angrily.
“I’m not so sure,” Nathan said, smirking. “If she’s yours, why is she in my arms right now?”
“Cherry, let’s go,” Jason said, grabbing my hand, but I pulled away.
“See?” Nathan said with a small laugh.
Jason was furious. He walked away without another word. Belinda followed.
“You better not do something stupid,” she warned Nathan before leaving.
Nathan still held my hand. My heart was pounding. He led me to the garden and handed me a bottle of water.
“Where’d you find this?” I asked, smiling.
“I came to give you this, dummy,” he said, sitting beside me.
“So… you still care about me?” I asked quietly, looking into his eyes.
He didn’t answer. Just stared. And when our eyes met, I couldn’t control what I felt. My heart burned.
When he tucked my hair behind my ear, I didn’t hesitate I kissed him, hard and desperate, like I was starving for him.
To my surprise, he kissed me back just as fiercely.
“Nathan!”
I heard Tasha’s voice, right in the middle of those delicious lips.
Damn it.
