Chapter 38~ EDGE OF FEAR

Chapter 38~ EDGE OF FEAR
~Cherry’s POV

“Nathan! Please help! Someone call the ambulance, huh? Nathan, stay with me!” I screamed, holding his head in my arms. His blood soaked my hands, my heart pounding so hard I thought it would stop. If something happened to him because of me, I swore I wouldn’t survive it either.

Someone finally called for help, and I stayed by his side, crying and begging him to stay with me. My voice was broken, cracking with every word, but I refused to let go of his hand.

At the hospital, they rushed him into the emergency room. I followed until a doctor stopped me at the door.

“You’re not allowed in, please.”

“Save him, I’m begging you… Save my Nathan,” I pleaded, grabbing his hand.

He didn’t answer. He just turned and went inside. My knees gave out, and I collapsed, sobbing. “Nathan,” I whispered, my tears blinding me.

Nathan’s parents arrived soon after. His mother broke down immediately, crying uncontrollably as his father tried to comfort her. Then she turned her grief on me.

“What are you doing here? After everything you’ve done to our Nathan?” she cried, striking me in her pain. “Bring my son back!”

Her words cut deeper than her hands.

“I’m sorry,” was all I could say, but it felt meaningless.

“I don’t ever want to see you near my son again. Someone get her out of here!” she screamed.

“If anything happens to him, I’ll never forgive you.”

I fell to my knees, begging. “Please… let me stay until Nathan wakes up. Then I promise, I’ll disappear from his life completely.”

“You have no shame! How dare you ask that!” she shouted.

By then, everyone had gathered at the hospital: my mom, Mr. Hyde, Tasha, Jason, Tom, and Samuel. Jason pulled me up from the floor, his jaw tight.

“Cherry, what are you doing?”

“Cherry!” My mom rushed toward me.

“This is all your fault! Your bad luck brought this!” Tasha snapped angrily.

“The patient is in a coma,” the doctor announced. My heart crumbled at those words, and I nearly collapsed again. Jason caught me.

“Please, doctor, save my son!” Mr. Jones begged, his voice trembling.

Nathan’s mother sobbed uncontrollably.

When the operation ended, they allowed everyone in to see him—everyone but me. I was left outside, my mother beside me, trying to comfort me.

“It’s okay, honey. Nathan will be fine,” she whispered, rubbing my back. But nothing eased the pain.

When Jason came out, I ran to him, clinging desperately.

“Jason, just once… please. Let me see his face at least once,” I begged through tears.

“Cherry…” He lifted me gently. “You’re putting me in a tough spot.”

“You can help me, Jason, I know you can.”

“You don’t understand how angry his mom is right now,” he warned.

“I don’t care. I won’t leave this hospital without seeing him,” I said firmly.

“Cherry,” my mom called, heartbroken.

“Don’t worry, Mrs. Hyde, I’ll stay with her,” Jason assured.

“Thank you, Jason,” Mom said softly before leaving.

Jason then whispered something to one of the guards. At first, they resisted, but finally, they let me through.

Inside, I found Tasha asleep beside Nathan’s bed. He lay motionless, hooked to machines, his chest rising and falling faintly. My heart shattered at the sight. I moved closer, trembling, and gently took his hand in mine.

“Why did you do that?” I whispered, brushing his cold cheek. “You have to come back, Nathan. Do you think I’ll give up on you? You’re wrong. Everyone’s waiting for you. Don’t make us wait too long, okay? I’ll be waiting… You know I’m good at that.”

My voice broke, and tears streamed down uncontrollably. My sobs woke Tasha.

“What the hell are you doing here?!” she yelled.

“I’m leaving,” I said quietly, standing up.

“You’re more shameless than I thought. You don’t have the right to be here!” she spat, stepping closer.

But before she could say more, Jason appeared at the door.

“Cherry, come on,” he said firmly, leading me outside.
