Chapter 138 Chapter 138
Chapter 138 Chapter 138
"Babe, I'm home!" Logan called as he stepped into the apartment.
He slipped off his shoes and neatly placed them on the rack beside the door before closing it behind him.
"Babe?"
When no answer came, he frowned in confusion.
"Chase?"
He made his way toward the living room, but the moment he stepped inside, he stopped in his tracks.
His eyes widened.
Standing in the middle of the living room was Chase...
Holding a tiny orange kitten in his arms.
Logan blinked several times, convinced he was imagining things.
Then recognition hit him.
It was the same kitten they had rescued a few days ago and taken to the animal shelter.
Back then, Logan had begged Chase to let them adopt him, but Chase had refused, insisting they weren't ready for the responsibility of raising a cat.
Logan had pleaded endlessly.
He had even promised to take care of the kitten all by himself.
Still...
Chase had refused.
Eventually, Logan had accepted defeat and convinced himself the kitten would find a loving family somewhere else.
And yet...
Here Chase was.
Holding the exact same kitten.
A bright smile slowly spread across Chase's face as he watched Logan's stunned expression.
"You did not..." Logan whispered in disbelief.
Without another word, he hurried over and carefully took the tiny kitten into his arms as though he were made of glass.
"Oh, look at you."
His voice softened immediately.
The little kitten looked much healthier than the last time they'd seen him.
His once matted orange fur was now clean and fluffy, and his bright little eyes stared curiously back at Logan.
Logan gently scratched beneath his chin, earning a tiny contented purr.
"Oh my God..." He laughed softly. "You're so adorable."
The kitten rubbed his tiny head against Logan's hand, making him smile even wider.
Only then did Logan look back at Chase.
"I thought you said you didn't want him."
Chase chuckled. "I didn't."
Logan raised an eyebrow.
"But..." Chase shrugged with a grin. "I saw how much you liked him." He folded his arms across his chest. "You couldn't stop talking about him after we left the shelter."
Logan smiled sheepishly.
"I knew how badly you wanted him."
"So..." He nodded toward the kitten. "I went back there today and adopted him."
Logan stared at him for a moment before laughing in disbelief.
"Then why did you make me think there wasn't any chance?"
"I wanted it to be a surprise."
"You are unbelievable."
Logan shook his head, unable to stop smiling.
"I actually gave up."
"I know."
"And all this time you were secretly planning this?"
"Mhm."
Logan looked down at the kitten again before hugging him a little closer.
"Thank you, babe."
His voice was full of emotion.
"You have no idea how happy you've made me."
Seeing Logan smile like that made every bit of planning worth it.
Chase's expression softened.
"I'm glad."
He walked over and gently scratched the kitten behind one ear.
"But..." His eyes narrowed playfully. "If we're keeping him..."
Logan looked up.
"...you'd better promise not to love him more than me."
Logan laughed. "What?"
"I'm serious."
Chase pointed an accusing finger at the tiny kitten.
"I don't want anyone stealing my boyfriend."
Almost as if he understood every word, the kitten let out a tiny hiss.
Chase gasped dramatically.
"Oh?"
He placed a hand over his chest.
"Already challenging me?"
The kitten hissed again.
"Hah!"
Chase pointed at him.
"See? He's already picking fights with his father."
Logan burst into laughter. "Father?"
"Of course." Chase nodded confidently. "I adopted him, so that makes me his father."
Logan couldn't stop laughing.
"I thought you said you didn't even want him."
"I didn't."
Chase smiled as he looked at Logan.
"But you did."
His voice softened.
"And I made a promise."
"A promise to always do my best to keep you happy."
Logan's heart melted.
Still holding the kitten carefully in one arm, he stepped closer and wrapped his free arm around Chase's neck.
"Thank you."
He kissed him softly.
"I love you."
Chase smiled against his lips.
"I love you too."
Then a mischievous grin spread across his face.
"Although..."
Logan narrowed his eyes suspiciously.
"You are definitely going to prove just how grateful you are later."
He finished with a playful wink before turning toward the kitchen.
"I'll go get his food ready."
He glanced back over his shoulder.
"Our little troublemaker must be hungry."
Logan laughed, shaking his head.
"You're impossible."
"So I've been told."
Still smiling to himself, Logan carried the kitten over to the couch and sat down.
The tiny orange ball of fur immediately curled into a comfortable little circle on his lap.
Logan gently stroked his soft fur.
The kitten looked up at him and let out a quiet little meow.
Logan smiled.
"Hmm..."
He tilted his head thoughtfully.
"I wonder what I should name you."
He gently scratched beneath the kitten's tiny chin, smiling as the little orange furball purred happily in his arms.
"I know what I'll call you."
Chase looked over from the kitchen. "What are we calling him?" He asked.
"Lucky.'' Logan replied.
Chase smiled. "Lucky?"
Logan looked down at the kitten with warmth in his eyes.
"Yeah... because he's going to be our little lucky charm."
Chase walked over and sat down beside Logan, handing him the bottle of warm milk he'd prepared for the kitten before wrapping an arm around Logan's waist.
"I think I love that." He said. "Lucky." He repeated the name softly, staring at the kitten with warmth in his eyes.
Logan gently cradled the kitten and began feeding him. Lucky eagerly drank from the bottle.
"Slow down, little one." Chase chuckled. "No one's taking it away from you."
"He must be really hungry.'' Logan said.
"Well, he won't ever go hungry again. He has two dads who love him very much now." Chase gently stroked Lucky's tiny head.
Logan turned to him and leaned in for a soft kiss.
"Thank you.'' He whispered when they pulled apart.
Chase smiled.
"You never have to thank me. I'd do anything to make you happy."
He leaned in to kiss Logan again.
But just as the kiss began to deepen, Lucky let out a tiny, impatient meow between them.
Logan immediately pulled back and looked down.
"Oh, sorry!" He laughed as he noticed the bottle had slipped from Lucky's mouth. He quickly guided it back, and the kitten resumed drinking as though nothing had happened.
Chase let out a dramatic sigh and shook his head.
"We're going to have a very busy little roommate, aren't we?"
Logan burst into laughter.
