Chapter 198
Chapter 198
"Are you absolutely certain about this?" Molly asked instinctively, only to receive a firm confirmation from the doctor.
If Dwayne suffered from this condition, then whose child was Celeste carrying?
A terrifying thought surfaced in her mind.
She thanked the doctor and stepped into the corridor, dialing her private investigator's number.
"I need you to look into something for me…"
As she hung up, a bone-deep chill crept through Molly. She leaned against the wall, a sardonic smile playing on her lips.
Dwayne… Those who betray true hearts are destined to be betrayed in turn.
Thinking back to what he'd done to her mother all those years ago, Molly couldn't help clenching her jaw.
This time, she would make Dwayne pay the price.
Meanwhile, trapped in legal trouble, Celeste had gone to desperate lengths to avoid arrest.
She'd liquidated every property and vehicle under her name just to cover the shortfall.
Having barely escaped prison, she didn't even bother to go home and change before rushing straight to the hospital.
Bursting into the ward, the moment she saw Dwayne, her voice turned shrill and theatrical, drawing the attention of passersby in the corridor.
"I carried on the Johnson family bloodline, only to be framed by that stepdaughter! That ungrateful wretch has a black heart—she wants me dead so she can take everything! She won't even spare her own unborn brother!"
Molly arrived after receiving a call from the caregiver, just in time to witness Celeste clutching a young nurse's hand and sobbing out her grievances.
The moment Celeste spotted Molly, she pointed an accusing finger and unleashed a torrent of abuse. "Molly! You vicious bitch! Look what you've done to your father—you'll get what's coming to you!"
By now, Dwayne had regained consciousness.
Seeing Celeste distressed, he naturally leapt to her defense, turning on Molly with sharp reproach.
"I think you just don't want me to live peacefully." Dwayne's expression was particularly grim as he lay in the hospital bed.
Molly ignored him entirely. Instead, she walked forward step by step until she stood only a few paces away from Celeste.
She looked down at the woman, her eyes devoid of emotion—only cold scrutiny.
"Are you sure I'm the one who should worry about karma?"
Celeste felt a chill under that gaze but forced herself to snap back, "Who else would it be if not you?"
Suddenly, Molly bent down, her smile icy. "Dwayne has severe oligospermia. It's virtually impossible for him to get anyone pregnant. Did you know that?"
At those words, Celeste's crying and cursing choked off in her throat.
Her expression froze.
"Don't talk nonsense. Dwayne is perfectly fine." Her eyes flickered, unable to meet Molly's gaze.
Molly's sharp eyes had already caught the thin sheen of cold sweat breaking out on Celeste's forehead.
That reaction said everything.
"If you don't want my father dropping dead from shock, you'd better come clean now," Molly said coldly.
"Molly, how dare you curse me!" Dwayne's roar echoed through the ward, his chest heaving violently with rage.
A cold laugh escaped Molly's throat. "Dwayne, you're pathetic. That child in her belly isn't even yours, and you're still protecting her."
Celeste's face went white. She immediately launched into tearful protestations. "Molly, don't you dare try to drive a wedge between us! I've been with you for so many years, and now I'm carrying your child—how can she slander me like this?"
Molly watched Celeste's tearful performance with an expression as cold as ice.
"I see you're not willing to admit it."
She calmly retrieved a folder from her bag and placed it gently on the nightstand beside Dwayne's bed.
"This is the hospital's test report."
Dwayne picked up the report. The moment he saw its contents, his face changed dramatically.
Celeste's expression shifted as well. She lunged forward, trying to snatch the document away. "That's forged! Molly, you shameless creature!"
"Stop." Molly's command halted her. "If you don't believe it, you can have the test redone. Celeste, do you dare swear on it?"
The ward fell into deathly silence.
Dwayne gripped the test results tightly, his knuckles white. He turned to Celeste, his eyes terrifyingly complex. "You… tell me. Whose child is it?"
Celeste stumbled back two steps, her face as pale as paper, her lips trembling but unable to form words.
In the past, Dwayne had always been in awe of her authority.
But this time, Celeste understood how important this child was to him.
For once, she felt genuinely afraid.
"What's wrong? Cat got your tongue?" Molly's voice was glacial. "Then let me ask you this—where did all the money from selling those antiques go? You've been transferring funds to different men for years. Am I wrong?"
"Those were my friends." Celeste was visibly panicking now, though she tried to maintain composure.
"Friends? Right. You're good at making excuses. But videos don't lie."
With that, Molly pulled out her phone and played a video.
The footage unmistakably showed Celeste in a compromising position with another man.
When the video ended, Dwayne looked as though he'd aged ten years in an instant. He turned his head toward Celeste with difficulty, speaking slowly. "Celeste… how could you do this?"
"Dwayne, let me explain!" Celeste threw herself at the bedside, grabbing his hand. "I was forced into it! You're getting old, and I wanted a child—I had no choice!"
"No choice?" Molly let out a scornful laugh. "Having 'no choice' justifies cheating? 'No choice' justifies transferring the Johnson family's assets to other men?"
She turned to Dwayne, her eyes devoid of sympathy. "Oh, and I forgot to mention—Celeste liquidated every property and vehicle under her name to cover the losses from selling stolen antiques. The Johnson family has nothing left."
"What?!" Dwayne jerked upright, then collapsed back onto the bed, dizzy. "Celeste! You… you sold everything?"
Celeste slumped to the floor, knowing she could no longer hide the truth. She gave up all pretense. "Yes! I sold it all! What else was I supposed to do—let you send me to prison? That vicious woman Molly would have actually thrown me behind bars!"
Witnessing Celeste's deranged state, Dwayne finally snapped. He raised his hand and struck her across the face.
"You shameless whore! Haven't I treated you well all these years? Why would you cheat on me?"
