119- A heads will roll
**VITTORIO CASSINI'S POV**
It's not easy, and I already knew it wouldn't be. Bringing Giullia and Luca to my side requires extreme care; they become targets amid situations that are unfolding, and I can't find the culprit. The hint Giullia gave is valid and undoubtedly the most coherent. Someone is trying to get revenge, and I can't think of who could be doing this.
To make matters even more frustrating, I see an imbecile looking at Giullia with interest. It's consuming me, even though I trust her blindly, I remember what happened years ago when I couldn't protect her from evil.
I step out of the shower, and she's finishing organizing belongings on a piece of furniture. I take a deep breath and approach her; my hands wrap around her waist, and I kiss her neck affectionately.
"Giullia, I might be overreacting, but I didn't like what I saw. He was… looking at you with interest. That frustrates me," I try to explain and make peace.
"In the past, you erred by not allowing me to learn how to defend myself. I learned, and here we are again, facing the same problem. You ask me to trust you, but you don't trust me," she speaks sincerely.
"Of course, I trust you!" I exclaim louder.
Giullia turns around, holding my face, and I feel the soft touch on my skin. I close my eyes, hold her hands, and plant tender kisses.
"Vittorio, I don't mean you don't trust me as a woman; I mean you don't trust that I'm capable of defending myself."
I listen attentively, holding Giullia's face and sealing our lips for a long kiss. The kiss starts slowly, gaining intensity gradually, and as usual, I'm already desiring her body. I taste the kiss, pressing Giullia's body against mine until I hear knocks on the bedroom door.
"Damn it!" I whisper.
She laughs and rolls her eyes, irritated at being interrupted at a moment like this. After a quick kiss, I step back and head towards the door. Upon opening it, I see Enzo standing in front of me.
"The inspector has arrived, boss!" He informs.
I had scheduled a meeting with the inspector to understand what happened while we were in Paris. I nod, indicating for him to go ahead. Furthermore, I return to Giullia, who looks at me attentively.
"I'm going to talk to the inspector; you'll owe me!" I touch her lips with my thumb and hastily leave the room.
I stride down the hallway, glancing at my wristwatch to check the appointed time. He's punctual. I won't rest until I find out who's trying to threaten me and my family.
Luca runs down the corridor with Bella; they both hold my hand and make me laugh.
"Daddy, let's play in the garden?" He invites me.
"You promised, uncle!" Bella reinforces Luca's request.
I feel like a complete man knowing I have an incredible woman by my side, a son, and Bella, who is also like my daughter. Even though I wish to be with them, I have a business to attend to.
"I need to work, kids," I inform them, and they let go of me.
"What do you work with, daddy?" My son asks, making me feel embarrassed.
"He works with trucks, moving things from one place to another," Bella says, making me choke.
Adellyn runs towards us. I'm coughing from choking, trying to control myself and take a deep breath. I'm worried about what she just said.
"Kids, don't bother Mr. Vittorio," Adellyn tries to lead them away.
"Bella, where did you get that from?"
I look at the girl, trying to understand how she came up with that information. I'm very cautious so that they don't realize this is the world of crime. It's a place they can't be, yet it's inevitable.
"I overheard a conversation of yours, uncle," she reveals, putting me on alert.
"Oh, Daddy works with moving houses," Luca adds.
I take a deep breath, feeling relieved, giving a broad smile, and then bursting into laughter. I ruffle my son's hair.
"Exactly. I work with moving furniture. Now… I have to go; behave yourselves."
I look at Adellyn, and she also nods; she understands my look. Whenever Bella asked too many questions about everything that happened in this house, she knew how to handle the situation to make it seem light and not a crime.
After managing to distract the kids, I enter the office and open the door, seeing the inspector seated in an armchair near the window. I walk up to him and extend my hand for a friendly greeting. He stands up, shakes my hand, and smiles.
"It's always great to see you, Don Cassini!" He always seems pleased with the visit.
"I'm sure it is; you've never left this house without taking a fortune with you," I smile calmly.
"That's precisely why it's wonderful!" He bursts into laughter.
I sit beside him, take a cigar, clip the tip, and light it. After offering a cigar to him, he does the same and lights up. I always must show a warm reception to those in the police force.
"What happened while I was away? I heard someone made a big mess around here," I ask, being direct and avoiding showing concern.
I can't let him perceive that I'm worried. The mafia and the police, even though allied in some illegal ways, any weak leader will be used against him in the future. They might claim that supporting a weak leader puts their careers at risk. But I have never been and will never be weak in leadership.
"Your shipment was arriving at the alternate entrance of Milan, the one only we know about. A surviving witness claimed that eight cars unexpectedly stopped and started shooting, without caring about the cargo. It was a massacre. They were there to kill. The cargo wasn't stolen, and they called the police."
I feel my body tremble, consumed by anger. Cowards were shot down by men who didn't stand a chance. They were killed from behind and at point-blank range. I draw on the cigar, crossing one leg and staring fixedly at him.
After this conversation, heads will roll!
