Chapter 90 If I Divorce Him, Will You Blame Me?
"You rest here first. I'll go ask for more details."
Arthur helped Sophie lie down on the hospital bed, called a caregiver to look after her, then walked straight out.
Little did he know, after he left, Sophie's pale face instantly recovered its spirit. She grabbed her phone from the side and started texting something, completely different from her weak appearance just moments ago.
After she finished all this, she looked at the caregiver beside her, who was standing there with her head down, silent.
Sophie glanced coldly at the caregiver. "Remember what I told you - what you should say and what you shouldn't."
The caregiver nodded repeatedly. "Yes."
Sophie didn't look at her again, just sent her to stand guard at the door. "Let me know when Arthur comes back."
"Yes."
Meanwhile, Arthur went to Dr. Julie to ask about the specific situation.
"Hello, doctor. Can you tell me about Sophie's condition in detail?"
Earlier in front of Sophie, he didn't dare ask too specifically, afraid of making her sad. Now that he was alone, he naturally wanted to understand exactly what was going on.
Dr. Julie felt a moment of panic when Arthur arrived. She didn't make eye contact with him, afraid he might notice something was off.
After Arthur asked his question, she gave herself a little pep talk, then told Arthur the explanation she had prepared beforehand.
Arthur listened to Dr. Julie's explanation, his brow furrowed tightly. "So there's no way to treat it domestically? Her condition?"
Arthur still couldn't believe it. Everything had been fine before - how could an old injury relapse cause so many problems?
"There are currently no cases like this domestically. I'm also working with other doctors to research better treatment methods."
"What about going abroad? Which hospitals overseas are authorities in this area? Can you recommend some?"
Since there was no solution domestically, he'd look abroad. He had to find a way to cure her.
He couldn't let Sophie die because of him, her old injury relapsing. He would live with that guilt forever.
"I'll organize some information over the next couple of days, look at some authoritative hospitals, and then let you know."
"Okay, thank you."
After Arthur left the doctor's office, he called home first to tell Elizabeth about Sophie's situation.
"Sophie's wound condition has gotten worse. The doctor says she might not live past this year. I need to stay with her during this time."
Elizabeth was shocked by Arthur's words and asked in disbelief, "What's going on? Wasn't the injury from so long ago? Why would it get worse now? Did the doctor say what happened?"
After learning that Sophie had taken a bullet for Arthur, Elizabeth had developed an inexplicable goodwill toward her. Now hearing that Sophie's old injury had relapsed and her condition had worsened, she had an indescribable feeling.
"The specific situation is still waiting for the doctors to consult. Anyway, I need to stay with her these next few days..."
"What about Aria?"
Elizabeth hesitated, thinking about what Aria had said to her today. Now with Sophie in this situation, she didn't know how to tell Aria.
Arthur paused at her words, looked out the window, and said slowly, "I haven't told her. If she asks, then tell her. But if she doesn't ask, no need to bring it up."
Thinking about their argument today, he couldn't be the first to back down and talk to her, much less take the initiative to tell her about this.
Elizabeth sighed softly at Arthur's words and replied, "Okay, got it."
After a few more words with Elizabeth, Arthur hung up.
Elizabeth ended the call and turned around to see Aria standing right behind her, which startled her.
When did she get here?
Did she hear everything she just said to Arthur?
"Aria?"
"Was that him on the phone?"
Aria saw Elizabeth's awkwardness, her expression slightly restrained as she asked calmly.
Elizabeth froze. Meeting Aria's calm eyes, she understood - she must have heard what was just said.
Whatever.
Nothing to hide anyway.
"Yes, he just called to say that Sophie, the one who took a bullet for him, her old injury has relapsed. Apparently her condition has gotten pretty serious. He'll be at the hospital with her these next few days."
Elizabeth told her everything Arthur had said.
Aria's eyes flashed with surprise, as if she hadn't expected this situation.
Sophie's condition had worsened? So suddenly?
Aria couldn't help but think about how Sophie had been frequently contacting Arthur recently. So she contacted him because of this?
For some reason, Aria had a gut feeling that this matter wasn't as simple as it appeared on the surface.
But she didn't show her inner thoughts. After all, some things weren't appropriate for her to say.
What if Arthur thought she was just jealous? That would be counterproductive.
Aria collected herself and nodded calmly. "Okay, I understand."
Elizabeth looked at Aria's calm appearance, worry flashing in her eyes. She seemed to want to say something but hesitated. "Aria..."
Aria saw Elizabeth's hesitation and smiled lightly, saying casually, "Mom, I'm fine. Don't worry. I'm used to it by now."
This casual remark made Elizabeth feel even more guilty. She sighed deeply but ultimately said nothing.
In this situation, anything more she said would just sound like she was making excuses for Arthur. Better to say nothing at all.
"Have you been feeling unwell lately? I've noticed your appetite hasn't been very good."
Elizabeth glanced at Aria's lower abdomen and asked with a light cough.
Aria followed Elizabeth's gaze to her own abdomen. Her mind panicked for a moment, and she instinctively wanted to cover her belly. Realizing her action, she forced herself to stop and unconsciously turned sideways to Elizabeth, saying softly, "No, I've just been too busy lately and haven't had time to eat properly. Nothing's wrong. Don't worry."
"Okay, that's good then. If there's anything you want to eat, just have the housekeeper make it."
Elizabeth looked away naturally, as if her glance just now had been completely casual.
Aria quietly breathed a sigh of relief when Elizabeth didn't say anything more. She must have been too nervous just now. Given Elizabeth's personality, if she knew about the pregnancy, she couldn't possibly be this calm.
She shouldn't scare herself like this.
Little did she know, Elizabeth had originally just had a suspicion, but after seeing Aria so nervous, that suspicion had become much more certain.
She was just hiding her inner doubts, that's all.
