Chapter 34 Abort the Child, Leave Him
Sophie's crying and wailing, though her words came out broken and all over the place, made her meaning crystal clear.
She wanted Aria to stay far away from Arthur, the farther the better, and stop getting in the way of their true love.
Sophie was crying miserably, but Aria couldn't muster even a shred of sympathy for her. She just thought the woman had something wrong with her brain.
"Miss Smith, Arthur and I are about to divorce. Whatever happens to him has nothing to do with me."
"How can it have nothing to do with you!" Sophie's face was covered in tears as she lunged forward and grabbed her.
"As long as you leave him, he'll come back to me! Aria, I'm begging you, you don't even love him, do you?"
"You were just arranged by your family to marry him! But I'm different. I've loved him for so many years. I had no choice but to go abroad back then."
No choice? Wasn't it just because she saw the Grant family was about to go bankrupt and was afraid of getting dragged down with them?
The Hall family's money saved the Grants. But soon after, the Halls faced the same crisis.
Although Arthur had helped out at the time, her father's health simply couldn't handle the enormous workload, and in the end, he still couldn't save the company.
Thinking of the past, Aria let out a soft sigh.
That one sigh made Sophie think Aria had agreed. The tears were still on her face, but the corners of her mouth were already turning up.
"You agree?"
Aria shook off her hand.
"I thought I made myself clear enough. We're about to divorce. And by the way, I'm the one who asked for the divorce."
"Even if Miss Smith hadn't said anything, I was going to leave him anyway. As for whatever he did that made you come here crying and making a scene, that's his business and has nothing to do with me."
Sophie bit her lip, and strong resentment burst forth from her red, tear-filled eyes.
"How can it have nothing to do with you?! You must be the bitch who used shameless tricks to make him call out your name when he was drunk!"
This Sophie was truly unreasonable.
Aria herself didn't even know what she had done. Maybe she moved out of the villa and was a bit colder to him than before... and that counted as shameless tricks?
How ridiculous.
As for calling out her name when drunk, what did that even prove?
Could it mean Arthur still had feelings for her?
How was that possible?
But then, thinking of his almost desperate attempts to make her stay a few days ago, and how he instantly pulled her into his arms during the car crash...
No, it couldn't be. If he really had feelings for her, why would he insist she abort the child?
And why would he act like nothing had happened?
While Aria was lost in thought, Sophie thought she was having second thoughts and quickly said, "Yes, he does have feelings for you, but don't get too full of yourself!"
"Even if he has feelings for you, he can't let me go either. Are you willing to share your husband with someone else for the rest of your life? You don't seem that generous to me."
Aria held back her patience and asked, "I don't want to hear this boring nonsense. Just tell me, what exactly do you want me to do?"
Sophie stared at her. "Leave this place. Make it so he never sees you again." She paused, then continued, "Abort the child."
Aria's pupils trembled.
Abort the child?
How did Sophie know she was pregnant?
Did Arthur tell her?
And then deliberately sent Sophie over to cry and make a scene, all to get her to abort the child?
He didn't want a child getting in Sophie's way when he married her in the future?
Aria's heart went completely cold, her throat feeling like someone had stuffed a block of ice in it.
In that instant, all of Arthur's previous lingering attachment, all his attempts to win her back, became utterly disgusting!
Aria felt her stomach churning. She felt sick.
Sophie kept talking, "You saw it yourself. Arthur only loves me. Do you really want a child with a man like that? Do you want your kid to have a father who doesn't love them?"
"When you have new feelings, a new love, and look back at this child, what if he looks somewhat like Arthur? Will you still be able to look at this child with a normal attitude?"
"Even if you can, what about your future husband? Can he treat him the same as his own biological child? Are you really willing to let this innocent little life bear that kind of disparity, that kind of pain?"
"It would be better if, from the very beginning, you didn't let him come into this world."
"Get out." Aria grabbed the documents on the desk and threw them at Sophie.
"This is my child. From the moment Arthur decided to abandon him, this child has had nothing to do with him. I will love him and care for him. I don't need you worrying about it for me!"
Sophie suddenly became agitated too.
"You're so shameless! You think I don't know what you're scheming?"
"You just want to have the child and use him to climb up, don't you? Let me tell you, that won't work!"
"He won't let you have this child! Because the person he loves is me, and the only woman who can have his child is me! He promised me this himself!"
As she spoke, Sophie pulled out a checkbook from her bag, scribbled her signature, wrote in an amount, tore it off, and threw it on Aria's desk.
"Stop pretending to be so full of maternal love. It's just about money, isn't it? Here's ten million."
Sophie was breathing rapidly. "Take this money, abort the child, leave this city. Is this price satisfactory?"
Aria gave an angry laugh.
"Does Miss Smith think ten million is a lot? When Arthur and I divorce, I'll get half his assets. Do you think I care about your measly ten million?"
She picked up the check, and without even looking at it, tore it into pieces.
The pieces fell onto the desk, and with a sweep of her hand, the paper scraps flew into the air.
"What's more, your beloved Arthur probably doesn't want to divorce me at all."
This sentence was deliberately said by Aria to annoy Sophie, and clearly, she succeeded.
Sophie was indeed provoked. "Aria, stop dreaming! Arthur only loves me!"
"Then why did he wait for me to ask for a divorce? Instead of proactively divorcing me for the sake of you, the one he deeply loves?"
Aria looked at Sophie's increasingly ugly expression, too lazy to continue this nonsense with her.
Her finger pressed the intercom on the side. "Security, please come here."
"You! You'll regret this!" Sophie was so angry her chest heaved, her eyes flashing with intense hatred as she turned and left.
Regret? Aria smiled, her hand moving to her abdomen.
She wouldn't regret it. However... Sophie's visit this time did give her a warning.
Perhaps she had been getting a bit too close to Arthur lately, giving him other ideas.
If things continued like this, would they really be able to divorce smoothly?
