Chapter 112

Chapter 112

When Amelia said this, her eyes were full of concern.

The next second, Benjamin looked up at her and said coldly, "You weren't invited to this race."

Amelia hadn't even considered this possibility. The smile on her face froze instantly.

"How is that possible? Why wasn't I invited?"

Sure, she hadn't competed in a while, but not long ago she'd been a star racer. As an all-star event, how could the organizers not invite her?

"You're joking, right? The invitation list probably isn't finalized yet—that's why my name isn't on it. Don't worry, no matter what, I'll win this race beautifully."

But Benjamin's next words were like a bucket of ice water poured over her head, chilling her to the bone.

"I already confirmed with the organizers. They refused your entry."

The confidence that had been radiating from Amelia's face shattered completely in that instant.

"I don't believe you. I'm calling them right now to confirm."

After saying this, she walked aside, pulled out her phone, and dialed the organizers. The phone rang for a long time before someone finally picked up.

The moment the call connected, Amelia asked urgently, "I've competed for several years. Why wasn't I invited this year?"

After she finished speaking, there was a pause on the other end before a voice gently asked, "And who is this?"

They didn't even recognize her.

The humiliation lingered in Amelia's heart, refusing to fade.

She used every ounce of strength to keep her emotions from collapsing in that moment.

She took a deep breath and tried to keep her voice calm. "This is Amelia Taylor. Could you please save my number for future reference?"

The person on the other end seemed to finally understand why she was calling.

"I'm sorry, Ms. Taylor. I just checked, and you're not on our invitation list. You also won't be invited to similar events in the future. I'm not sure of the exact reason. If you have any concerns, you're welcome to submit them to the organizers directly."

In other words, this person couldn't help her—Amelia would have to handle it herself.

When had she ever been treated like this?

Her whole life, people had treasured and protected her.

What's more, photos from her birthday party had already spread online, with many people saying she and Benjamin were a perfect match. Everything had been going according to plan—so why was this happening now?

"What did you just say? Do you know who I am? If you don't give me a reasonable explanation, believe me, I'll make sure your race doesn't even happen!"

She didn't believe it. With Benjamin backing her, how could the organizers dare oppose her?

"I'm at the White Group right now. I need a reasonable explanation from you, or I'll tell Mr. White about this."

As she spoke, she turned to look at Benjamin. Her earlier arrogance instantly melted into grievance, completely ignoring the deep furrow in Benjamin's brow.

"Benjamin, look how they're treating me! I'm one of the rare female racers to emerge in recent years, and they didn't even put my name on the invitation list!"

Before Benjamin could answer, a cold male voice came through the phone.

"My employee already explained this clearly, Ms. Taylor. If you have questions, you can come find me directly. I'm the organizer for this event. Oh, let me introduce myself—I'm Kimball Church. We're hosting at the Number Seven Highway Race Track in the suburbs. I'll be there for the next few days. You're welcome anytime."

With that, the call ended.

Amelia replayed the man's name in her mind and said harshly, "Kimball. I don't care who you are—if you cross me, I won't let you get away with it."

But when Benjamin heard that name, his head snapped up to look at her.

"What did you say his name was?"

Evelyn didn't notice the strange emotion in his eyes. She answered matter-of-factly, "Kimball. It's weird—I feel like I've heard that name somewhere before, but I can't quite remember."

Benjamin, however, remembered the name vividly.

He could even recall the exact feeling he'd had when he'd answered that phone call.

He had a pretty good guess that this had something to do with Evelyn.

The next second, he stood up and walked straight toward the door, not even pausing as he passed Amelia.

Seeing this, Amelia immediately asked, "Benjamin, where are you going? Are you going to handle this? You really don't have to. I know you feel bad for me, but I don't want you to get into a direct conflict with the organizers. Even if I don't compete, the White Group can find someone suitable."

For Amelia, this situation was actually an opportunity.

She'd been so focused on Benjamin lately that she hadn't had time to practice. If she had to readjust to the pace of racing now, who knew what kind of disaster that would be.

If she could use this as an excuse to avoid losing at the race while also making Benjamin feel sorry for her—wouldn't that kill two birds with one stone?

In any case, she was only saying this for show.

Benjamin stopped and turned to look at Amelia. "What I'm about to do has nothing to do with you. You don't need to worry."

After saying this, he clearly intended to leave her there.

But Amelia had finally gotten a chance to be alone with him—how could she let it slip away?

She immediately followed after him.

"Benjamin, please don't leave me here alone. Whatever happens, I want to be by your side."

"There's no need."

Amelia's expression darkened. "How can you say there's no need? This whole thing started because of me. We were fine before—what changed? What made you like this?"
