Soooo.... The Ghost Might Actually Be Psycho
They all ran from the basement the entirety of the situation settling on them. If they didn't solve this they'd die here far sooner than they thought. Alex looked far worse than shaken and Courtney had ran to the bathroom looking a little green around the gills. Luke had been the first to get out of there Courtney had followed. Alex was still stuck in a stunned silence. He was pale and he looked sort of sick.
“We need to warn the others. They-they need to know,” Alex was barely audible and his voice was shaky.
Luke nodded. The other two deserved to know that they were trapped in an old mansion with a psychotic ghost. None of them were safe if she found out they knew about her secret though. If they told them they could potentially be putting them in more danger but if they didn't they'd have no idea what they were really dealing with. Luke didn't want to put Sam or Tracy in any more danger than they were already in but he couldn't just let them remain clueless could he?
Besides, it wasn't just Luke who could spill the beans. Alex and Courtney had seen the bodies too. Courtney had come back out of the nearby bathroom white as a ghost. Luke saw Alex immediately move to check on her. Alex seemed just as shaken up as they were but whatever he was thinking he wasn't saying.
Luke was about to head back to the living room when he heard an unearthly hum. It was beautiful yet creepy at the same time. A chill passed through him as the sound drew closer. He couldn't move. He was ready to run; he just couldn't. Suddenly four hands jerked him back into a nearby room.
Alex and Courtney had actually managed to sneak into a nearby empty room. The room was dark but it was better than being out in the open. This house was beyond ancient. Luke was surprised that the creaky floors hadn't given away their presence yet.
They all remained silent for a while just sitting in the dark. The hum had long since passed thankfully. Alex's color had slowly begun to return and Courtney had calmed down. Luke was still a little disoriented but he was still concerned about how the others would react.
“I think she's gone,” Alex was peeking through a crack in the door.
“Let's head back. We can figure out what to do in the morning,” Luke watched Alex open the door. Courtney nodded silently although he knew that they wouldn't be able to get any more sleep tonight. Not after what they'd seen.
“I'm sorry I led us down there. I didn't… I thought that it wouldn't be something so horrific but… I guess I was wrong,” Alex rubbed the back of his neck and his eyes were focused on the ground as he walked.
“We went willingly. It wasn't your fault. Besides Vivian's the crazy one,” Luke led the way back to the living room.
Sam and Tracy were still asleep when they finally arrived back. Courtney went over and curled up in the window sill looking out at the stars. Alex went back to the armchairs he had been in earlier. Sam stirred a little as Alex moved past him. Luke went over to the couch and laid back on it. He pulled his phone out and began scrolling through old photos.
They'd all silently agreed not to tell the others until morning. Although Alex wanted to wake Sam up and tell him everything he didn't think it would be wise. Vivian was most active at night and he didn't want to risk them all getting hurt all because he'd wanted to investigate Vivian. At least now he knew he couldn't trust her.
Alex was tired but he couldn't sleep. His mind wouldn't stop racing. He wanted to know what those poor people did to Vivian. It certainly couldn't have been bad enough to earn them such a wretched fate. And what happened to the one who made it out? Why did Vivian let them go?
There were too many questions he needed answered. He knew he couldn't ask Vivian because then she'd get mad and take it out on everyone and he didn't want to risk anyone getting hurt. There were too many unknowns and they still had far too much time left where they'd be stuck in here with a ghost who'd murdered twenty-four people.
Alex looked around the room trying to focus on something, anything else. His eyes came to the clock first. They were gone for nearly two hours. It was late and the silence was deafening.
He'd woken up from a rather odd nightmare around midnight. He'd been running from a ferocious monster in an old office building he didn't recognize. It had been absolutely hideous and it had nearly caught him too. He remembered being scared until the ground suddenly dropped out from under him and he'd found himself falling. He was absolutely terrified of heights especially when he was falling from such a great height. Next thing he knew he'd awoken in a cold sweat with Courtney staring at him concerned.
He went to sleep last night hoping that things would be more peaceful than they had been the night before. At least things couldn't get any worse at this point. When the others got up they'd tell them what happened. Then they'd all decide what their next course of action would be. From now on this had to be a group effort or they'd fail and never get out of there.
Timeskip
It took a few hours but Luke had been the first to fall back to sleep. The clock on the wall read 4:57. The stars shone brightly outside and Courtney longed to be out there with them. She wished they could find some secret door or hidden passage that would help them escape but she knew that wouldn't. Vivian had been here longer than any of them. This had been her home when she was alive therefore she knew where every secret was in the house. They weren't getting out unless they played along with the ghost's little game.
Tracy had been in her element Courtney knew that. Tracy told Courtney about all the murder mystery books she'd read and detective shows she loved to watch. Courtney had promised her she'd read a couple of the books when they got out of her although she wasn't really a fan of the genre. They’d promised to stay in touch whenever the ghost finally did let them go. In a way they had bonded over the odd situation they'd been placed in.
Courtney turned around and headed for her place on the floor. She pulled her dark red hightops off and scooted under the covers. She looked over at Alex momentarily wanting to say good night. He'd curled up in the armchair and at some point he'd managed to get back to sleep. She was a little surprised but he did look tired. He had dark circles under his eyes and earlier he'd barely been able to quit yawning. She shrugged before pulling the covers up over her and rolled over hoping that she too could get some rest.
