Chapter 67

“Leave me alone.” I straighten my shoulders, but I really don’t want to have to deal with their shit right now or ever.

“Woohoo.” Sullivan holds up his hands. “Guess she told us.”

Mercier laughs. “Whatcha doing out here so late? Looking for your ghost lovers again?” He makes smooching sounds and puckers his lips while he rubs his arms up and down his body.

Last time I was here with these wolves, they nearly killed me and got a little bite happy. But that was before I accepted my magic and blew apart a wraith.

“Don’t you two have anything better to do? Like chase and actual rabbit or squirrel or something?”

“Nah, that can get boring.” Mercier traces his lower lip with his thumb. “But you might entertain us for a long time. I can hear your heart pounding in fear from here.”

“Yes, fear that I might accidentally kill you with my power.” After all, I had collapsed a leyline. I squeeze my eyes shut briefly, praying that Jacques was still in the abyss somewhere.

A rustle sounds behind me and I snap my eyes open, spinning at the sound. But it’s only Sullivan, stalking a circle around me along with Mercier.

“So, you gonna start running now?” Mercier taunts.

“Fuck you both, assholes.” I am tired and fed-up with everything right now. I want to get my wand, release Ben and Kiarr from the damn prism, and bring Jacques back.

“Stupid bitch,” Sullivan snarls and leaps at me.

The flashlight drops from my hand. I haul my magic up from inside me and slam it into him. He screams in mid-air, flying backward.

Mercier tackles me and we both fall to the ground. My back hits a tombstone. There’s a crack that sounds and I wince from the pain lancing up my spine. Mercier starts shifting, his eyes flashing amber.

Shit. My leg cramps from the memory of them biting me. I thrust out my magic and he whimpers, smoke billowing from his gray fur.

He shifts into his human form, patting at the tiny flames chewing on his clothes.

“Brene?” Headmaster Walsh frowns at me. “Did you attack your fellow students with magic?”

“I—no—I defended myself. They were going—”

“We do not use magic against each other.” Walsh straightens his robes. “Report to Headmistress Decan before first period tomorrow.”

“But—”

“I will listen to Mercier and Sullivan’s side of the story, then yours tomorrow. In the meantime, go back to your dorm.”

“Yes, sir.” I pick up my flashlight from the ground and march past them with my head held high, even though I feel so lost without finding my wand or getting any closer to figuring out how to get Ben and Kiarr out.

Back at my dorm, I glance into the mirror. My clothes are dirty, and I have a scrape along the back of my arm from when they knocked into the gravestone. Leaves are stuck in my hair and I look as bad as I feel.

I set my backpack down and shower, then I crawl into bed, curling in on myself. Tears of despair and frustration spill down my cheeks.

* * *

“Don’t fret, lass, we’re here,” Kiarr says in his thick Viking accent. His hand smooths down my hair.

“You’re back.” I push into his touch, missing him so much. His hand glides down my shoulder and back. I spin in the bed, needing more. Needing his touch everywhere and his lips. I kiss him and nearly weep from joy as he kisses me back. His hands loop around me and he draws me up close.

“Brene,” Ben whispers behind me.

Pulling my head away from Kiarr for a moment, I see Ben standing at the side of the bed looking at us forlornly. I hold my hand out to him and he takes it, kissing my palm.

Ben crawls into bed. Giving me time with Ben, Kiarr kisses the back of my neck and rubs my back and arms. I kiss Ben while he and Kiarr touch me until I’m tingling all over. And I want to taste both of them, have them taste me.

Unabashedly, I take off my nightgown and Kiarr growls in appreciation. Goosebumps prickle across my skin and my nipples harden. I’d had sex before with Lance and a boyfriend before him. But this felt different. More intense.

Kiarr kisses my shoulder, working his way down to one breast. His mouth feels both cool and hot on me and I writhe.

Through a lust-filled haze, I see Ben is on the bed, staring in longing. I grab his hand, pulling it to my breast. Maybe I’m a tramp for wanting them both, but I don’t care. I just want this.

Ben squeezes my breast before leaning down and suckling. Two ghosts—two men—kissing and licking my nipples and a tightness in my sex leaves me feeling hollow and aching.

As though reading my mind, Kiarr brushes his fingers over my sex. I moan, writhing, needing more.

“Please.” I throw my head back on the bed.

He dips in one finger and I’m so ready, and wet and feeling like I can never have enough. Two fingers go in deeper and I rock my hips back and forth.

Then Kiarr moves from my breast to nestle between my legs. None of my previous boyfriends had done this and I hold my breath.

Ben moves from my breast to my mouth. His hands tweaking my nipples. Then Kiarr’s delicious mouth kisses my sex. His tongue strokes between my folds and I moan, my hands moving down to his head.

Over and over, he licks and sucks. His beard both tickles and tantalizes me and hell, I don’t know what he’s doing down there, but I’m buzzing with pleasure. I rock my hips against his mouth and my fingers claw through his golden hair. His tongue hits a spot that jolts through me.

“Oh,” I breathe out against Ben’s mouth and my orgasm shoots through me like fireworks. Once I catch my breath and come down from the sky both my ghosts have sent me to, I smile. Content and sated, yet I’d love to do more with them.

But exhaustion pulls at me and I can’t keep my eyes open despite never wanting this moment to end.

“Please. Just hold me too.” My throat constricts. “I’ve missed you both so much it hurts like my heart is bruised.”

“Sleep, sweet Brene,” Ben says.

I snuggle between them both. Their arms wrapping around me and I feel a touch of peace that I haven’t felt since Gwen sucked them into the prism.
