CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTEEN
CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTEEN
The days that followed were a blur of urgency. Damon and I spent hours strategizing, trying to figure out how to outsmart Sienna.
We couldn’t let her control the narrative any longer, but each attempt to outmaneuver her felt like we were only setting ourselves up for another trap. I could feel the walls closing in on us, the weight of it all pressing against me more and more with every passing minute.
I tried to keep a calm face in front of Kai, but the tension between Damon and me, the stress of the situation, hung in the air like a heavy fog. Kai didn’t understand the danger—didn’t understand the stakes. He was just a kid, still too young to grasp the complexity of what was going on around him. But the thought of him being caught in Sienna’s web haunted me every second. I couldn’t let that happen. Not again.
Damon was quieter than usual. I could see how much the stress of everything was eating away at him. He hadn’t fully processed the possibility of losing Kai, and I didn’t think he ever would. How could he? The man was fighting for a son he didn’t even know existed just months ago. He’d already lost so much. The thought of losing anything more, especially Kai, was something I knew he couldn’t bear.
We had to act quickly. Sienna’s plans were moving forward, and I had no doubt that she was ready to do whatever it took to gain control.
That night, after Kai had gone to bed, Damon and I sat in the living room. The quiet of the house felt unnatural, oppressive even. I could hear the soft ticking of the clock on the wall, the hum of the refrigerator in the kitchen, but none of it could drown out the gnawing feeling in my stomach.
“We’re running out of time,” Damon said, breaking the silence. His voice was low, like he was speaking to himself more than me.
“Sienna’s moving faster than I thought. I don’t know how much longer we can keep her at bay.”
I clenched my jaw.
“We can’t let her control the situation. She won’t win.”
Damon’s eyes shifted to me, his expression a mix of determination and doubt. “I’m not so sure anymore. She’s been two steps ahead of me this whole time. And now, she’s using Eric to get to Kai.”
The mention of Eric made my stomach churn. Eric had been a part of all this from the beginning, and I hadn’t trusted him since the first time he’d shown up on Damon’s radar. But now, he was deeper into this than I’d ever imagined, and I was terrified of what he was willing to do.
“How do we stop her, Damon?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. I needed a plan. I needed something solid to hold onto.
Damon rubbed his forehead, exhaustion evident in his movements.
“We can’t wait for her to make her next move. We need to force her hand. Expose her before she can make her play.”
I took a deep breath, trying to focus. “What does that mean, exactly? How do we expose her?”
“We need leverage,” Damon said, his voice steadying.
“We need to find something that will break her grip on me. Something she won’t be able to wiggle her way out of.”
I nodded, understanding the gravity of what he was saying. But the problem was, I didn’t know what that leverage was. We didn’t have any physical evidence, no smoking gun to expose her for what she really was. We had only our instincts—and those had been wrong too many times to count.
“Where do we start?” I asked, feeling a sense of helplessness creeping in.
Damon stood up abruptly, his eyes hardening with resolve. “We started by going after her weakness. Everyone has one. She’s not invincible, Winter. She’s just good at making people believe she is.”
I watched him pace back and forth, the weight of his words sinking in. He was right. Sienna wasn’t perfect, and if we could find her weakness, maybe—just maybe—we could take her down.
But there was no time to waste. Damon’s plan was risky, and it would take every ounce of effort to pull it off. And even then, I wasn’t sure it would work. But I had no choice. I couldn’t let Sienna win.
“I’ll help you,” I said quietly, my heart beating faster. “Whatever it takes.”
Damon stopped pacing and turned to me. For a brief moment, I saw something flicker in his eyes—a mixture of gratitude and something deeper. Something more personal. He nodded once, his voice quiet but firm.
“Good. We’re in this together.”
Damon's POV
I couldn’t let Sienna win. No matter the cost.
I’d been through too much already, and I wouldn’t let her destroy everything I cared about. She had tried to control me for years, manipulating me like a puppet on strings, but now the tables were turning. I was no longer the man who had to appease her, the man who had no other choice but to follow her lead.
Now, I was the one making the choices.
I had a target, and I had to keep my focus. My first priority was Kai. That was non-negotiable. But beyond that, I had to make sure Sienna would never have the chance to hurt me or Winter again.
“I’ve been thinking about everything she’s done,” I said, my voice low. “And I realized something.”
Winter raised an eyebrow, her curiosity piqued. “What’s that?”
“She’s always used my past against me. My mistakes, my weaknesses. And I’ve given her power by letting her. But I’m done letting her control the narrative. It’s time for me to take back control.”
Winter nodded, a glint of determination in her eyes. “Then let’s do it. We’ll figure out how to make her pay for everything.”
And for the first time in a long time, I believed her. We weren’t going to let Sienna control this anymore. We were going to find a way to break free. Together.
The winds change, the world reshapes,
Moments fade and new paths take,
In the distance, I saw the light,
But it’s not yet mine, not tonight.
You stood at the edge, ready to fall,
I held you steady, through it all,
But now we’re drifting, separate sands,
The rhythm of life slipping through our hands.
Was it fate, or was it fear?
Did we hold on too tight, or let go too near?
Questions linger like the quiet after the rain,
But answers seem to come in pain.
Your touch still burns my skin,
A whisper of what could have been.
Yet here we are, with hearts apart,
Two lost souls, one fractured heart.
The tide is rising, the waves are tall,
Yet here I stand, against it all.
I won’t look back, won’t turn away,
But I will remember, come what may.
For love is not a line that stays,
It shifts and moves; it bends and sways.
We were once the shore, the sky, the sea,
But now we’re nothing, just memories.
Still, I’ll carry you in the storm,
In the shifting sands where love was born.
For what we were, what we had,
Is something even time cannot add.
So let the winds blow fierce and cold,
Let the shifting sands take their hold.
In the quiet, I’ll keep you near,
A whisper in the storm, forever clear.
