CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTEEN
CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTEEN
I sat at the kitchen table, my fingers tracing the rim of my mug as I stared at the quiet house around me. The house that, for all its quietness, had never felt so full of tension. Every corner seemed to echo with unspoken words, every creak of the floorboards amplified in the silence. The truth had come crashing down—Damon was Kai's father—and now everything seemed to hang by a thread. The calm before the storm was suffocating.
I glanced at the clock. It had been hours since Damon left. I knew he needed to do something, something that would help us get ahead of Sienna. But I couldn’t shake the feeling that everything was spiraling out of control.
Kai shifted on the couch, murmuring in his sleep, the weight of everything still too much for him to bear. I wished I could take the pain away, take all of it away, but I knew I couldn’t. The damage had been done, and now we were all trying to pick up the pieces.
I stood up slowly, my movements stiff with the tension that had taken root in my body. There was so much to process, so much to untangle. Damon and I had crossed a line, one that neither of us had fully understood at the time. But now, with the truth out in the open, it felt like everything was teetering on the edge.
I walked over to the window, my gaze sweeping over the empty street. Damon had gone to meet Eric, a step that both terrified and relieved me. Eric was dangerous, yes, but if he could help us deal with Sienna, I was willing to trust him—at least for now. The plan was simple: find out everything we could about her, her next move, and whatever hold she still had over Damon.
The sound of the front door opening startled me, and I turned quickly to see Damon standing in the doorway. His eyes were dark, shadows lingering beneath them, his posture tense. I could tell he had been through something, though I wasn’t sure what.
“You look like you’ve been through hell,” I said, trying to keep the worry out of my voice.
Damon stepped inside, his gaze briefly meeting mine before flicking toward Kai. He seemed to hesitate, like he didn’t quite know how to begin.
“It’s worse than I thought,” Damon muttered, his voice rough.
“Eric knows more than I expected. Sienna’s been pulling strings for months—months, Winter. And it’s all been leading to this.”
My heart sank at his words. "What do you mean?"
Damon’s gaze darkened, and he ran a hand through his hair, clearly frustrated. “She’s been manipulating people close to me—people I thought I could trust. But more than that, she’s been using me to get what she wants. She’s been setting me up for a fall, making sure I’m in a position where I have no choice but to follow her orders.”
I felt the weight of his words settle over me, the realization sinking in that Sienna had been playing this game long before we knew it. She wasn’t just a woman scorned—she was someone who had been methodically and coldly calculating every move.
"She’s been setting you up all this time?" I repeated, my mind racing.
"But why? What does she want from you?"
Damon's jaw clenched as he turned to face me fully, his expression grim. "She wants me to fall. She wants to break me, and she’ll use anything to do it. The photos, the threats... everything she’s done, it’s all been about keeping me under her control."
“And the blackmail?” I asked, already dreading the answer. I could already see how this was spiraling, how deep the web Sienna had woven really was.
“That's just part of it,” Damon replied, his voice tight with frustration.
“But it’s not just about me. She knows about Kai and Winter. She knows what I’m capable of. And she’s using that against us.”
I felt my heart skip a beat. “What do you mean? What’s she planning now?”
Damon looked at me, his eyes filled with the weight of everything he had yet to say. “She’s planning something bigger. Something that will ruin us. But I’m going to stop her, Winter. I won’t let her destroy everything we’re trying to rebuild.”
The intensity in his voice made my pulse race, but a part of me couldn’t help but wonder if this was it—if Sienna’s manipulations had already gone too far for any of us to come back from. The idea of facing her again, of going up against someone so determined to tear us apart, made my blood run cold.
"How are we going to stop her?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
"What if she's too strong? What if we can't take her down?"
Damon’s gaze softened, and for a moment, I saw a flicker of the man I knew. The man who would fight for what he loved, no matter the cost. "We’ll find a way. Together. You, me, and Kai. We’ll face whatever comes next. I promise you that."
As he spoke, I saw a glimpse of hope—a fleeting moment where the fear and doubt didn’t seem so overwhelming. Maybe, just maybe, we could take back control.
But deep down, I knew that the hardest part was still ahead. The reckoning with Sienna was coming, and it would be a battle unlike any we had fought before.
The pieces were in motion, the storm was on the horizon, and we had no choice but to face it head-on.
Damon's POV
The weight of the conversation hung over me, and as I stepped into the quiet of the night, I couldn’t shake the feeling that time was running out. Everything I thought I knew was unraveling at an alarming rate. Sienna was still out there, lurking in the shadows, ready to strike when I least expected it.
But I couldn’t afford to let that fear control me. Not now. Not when I had everything to lose.
I reached for my phone, dialing the number I’d been avoiding all evening. Eric. He was my only lead, the one person who might hold the key to taking Sienna down.
The phone rang a few times before Eric picked up, his voice rough, as if he’d been expecting my call.
“Damon,” he said, the weight of the situation evident in his tone. “You still want to play this game? You’re not going to like where it leads.”
“I don’t have a choice, Eric,” I replied, my voice steady, but my mind racing.
“We need to put an end to this. Sienna’s playing both of us, and I need to know everything she’s planning. How deep does this go?”
Eric paused for a long moment, and I could practically hear him weighing his options. Then he spoke again, his voice low. “You want the truth? Fine. But you’re not going to like it. Sienna has been setting the pieces in motion for a long time, Damon. She’s not just after you. She’s after everything you care about.”
I felt a cold chill run down my spine, but I held my breath, waiting for him to continue.
“She’s going to strike soon,” Eric said, his voice thick with forewarning.
“And when she does, it won’t just be you she takes down. It’ll be everyone you love.”
I hung up the phone, the weight of his words settling over me like a suffocating blanket. Sienna wasn’t just playing for control anymore. She was playing for destruction.
And she wouldn’t stop until she had everything I cared about in her grasp.
I had to act, and I had to act fast. The clock was ticking.
