CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND ELEVEN
CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND ELEVEN
Winter's POV
The calm before the storm didn’t last long. Just as we were beginning to feel some semblance of control, Sienna made her next move, and it was a direct hit.
I was in the kitchen preparing lunch when my phone buzzed. At first, I thought it was one of Damon’s security updates, but the moment I saw the unknown number, my stomach dropped.
I hope the cameras make you feel safe, Winter. They won’t stop me.
The text was accompanied by a photo of Kai, taken from outside the house. My hands trembled, the phone slipping from my grasp and clattering onto the counter.
“Winter?” Damon’s voice cut through my spiraling panic as he rushed into the kitchen. “What’s wrong?”
I pointed to the phone, unable to speak. Damon picked it up, his face darkening as he read the message.
“Where the hell did she get this?” he growled, his voice low and dangerous.
The photo was recent—Kai was in the backyard just this morning, playing with his basketball. Despite the cameras and guards, Sienna had found a way to get close enough to remind us that nothing could stop her.
Damon immediately summoned the security team to review the footage. Hours were spent combing through every second, but there was nothing. No sign of Sienna, no unfamiliar faces, no suspicious activity.
“She’s playing games,” Damon muttered, pacing the living room. “She wants us to know she’s watching, that she can get to us whenever she wants.”
I sat on the couch, clutching a blanket tightly around myself. “What if she’s right, Damon? What if we can’t stop her?”
He stopped pacing and knelt in front of me, his hands gripping mine. “We can stop her. She’s not untouchable, Winter. She’s just trying to scare us.”
“Well, it’s working,” I whispered, tears burning at the corners of my eyes.
Damon’s jaw tightened, his resolve hardening. “Not for long.”
The next morning, Damon decided it was time to go on the offensive. He contacted Trey again, pushing for more information about Sienna’s dealings.
“I’ve got something,” Trey said when he called back. “Remember that charity event I mentioned? Turns out Sienna didn’t just skim money off the top—she funneled it into a fake account tied to her ex-boyfriend. When the whole thing blew up, she pinned it on him and walked away clean.”
“Do you have proof?” Damon asked.
“Not yet, but I know someone who might. I’ll send you their info.”
Damon hung up, his expression grim. “We’ve got a lead. If we can prove she committed fraud, we can shut her down.”
While Damon worked on gathering evidence, I couldn’t shake the fear that Sienna’s threats were escalating. Every noise outside the house made me jump, and I found myself checking on Kai every few minutes, just to make sure he was still safe.
That afternoon, Damon found me sitting on the floor in Kai’s room, watching him play with his cars.
“You’re going to drive yourself crazy like this,” he said gently, sitting beside me.
“I can’t help it,” I admitted. “She’s always one step ahead. What if we miss something? What if—”
Damon cut me off, his hand resting on my shoulder. “We won’t. I won’t let anything happen to you or Kai. I swear it.”
Later that evening, Damon’s lawyer called with another update.
“We’ve started looking into Sienna’s financial records, and there are definitely some irregularities,” he said. “It’s going to take time, but if we can link her to the fraud, we’ll have enough to press charges.”
“Time is the one thing we don’t have,” Damon replied.
“Then we’ll move fast,” the lawyer promised.
As the days passed, the tension between us only grew. Sienna’s silence after the photo was almost worse than her threats. It was as if she were waiting for the perfect moment to strike again.
And when she did, it was worse than anything we could have imagined.
A knock on the door late one evening sent a chill through me. Damon answered it, his body tense, only to find an envelope waiting on the doorstep.
Inside were more photos—not just of Kai, but of me. Walking to my car, grocery shopping, dropping Kai off at school. Each one was a reminder of how close Sienna could get, how easily she could slip past our defenses.
“She’s escalating,” Damon said, his voice tight with anger.
“What do we do now?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
Damon’s eyes met mine, fierce and unyielding. “We make her pay.”
The weight of silence wraps us tight,
Words unsaid, but hearts ignite.
In every glance, in every touch,
A story shared, without too much.
I see the scars beneath your skin,
The battles lost, the fights within.
Yet still you stand, so strong, so true,
In your brokenness, I find you.
We wear our armor, thick and strong,
Pretend we’re right, when we’ve been wrong.
But when you look, when you let me see,
You’re more than just your history.
I wish I knew how to make it clear,
That I’m not afraid to be near.
That I would stay, that I would fight,
Even in the dark, through the longest night.
Because the echoes of the heart don’t fade,
They linger, they grow, they never trade.
And in these echoes, I find a call,
That whispers softly: we can have it all.
So let the past remain in the past,
The future's waiting, and it’s vast.
We’ll step forward, side by side,
No more fear, no more lies to hide.
