CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND NINE
CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND NINE
Winter's POV
The following day began with an air of tense normalcy, as if the house itself was holding its breath. Damon had left early to meet with his lawyer, leaving Kai and me alone. I busied myself with breakfast, trying to maintain some semblance of routine despite the dread curling in the pit of my stomach.
“Mama, do you think Daddy will come back before lunch?” Kai asked, his innocent question pulling me from my thoughts.
I managed a smile. “He’s just taking care of something important, sweetheart. He’ll be back soon.”
Kai nodded, his little face lighting up. “Okay! I’ll save him a pancake!”
As he turned back to his plate, I marveled at his resilience. Kai didn’t know the depth of the danger surrounding us, and I wanted to keep it that way.
Later that morning, the doorbell rang, its sharp chime jolting me. My pulse quickened as I glanced at the clock. Damon wasn’t due back for hours.
Peering through the peephole, I saw a delivery man holding a small box. My relief was fleeting as I opened the door.
“Delivery for Winter Reynolds,” he said, handing me the package.
I frowned. “I didn’t order anything.”
“It’s prepaid,” he replied before heading back to his truck.
I shut the door, staring at the box in my hands. A sinking feeling told me it wasn’t a harmless gift.
With Kai playing in the next room, I sat at the dining table and carefully opened the package. Inside was a single photograph.
My breath caught. It was a picture of me and Kai at the park a few days ago. In the background, Sienna stood under a tree, watching us with a malicious smile.
My hands trembled as I flipped the photo over. Scrawled in black ink were the words: “Always watching.”
I swallowed hard, forcing back the wave of panic. Sienna was escalating, making her presence known in ways that were impossible to ignore.
Damon needed to know.
By the time Damon returned home, my nerves were frayed. The photograph sat on the kitchen counter, its presence like a looming shadow over the room.
“What’s wrong?” Damon asked the moment he saw my face.
Wordlessly, I handed him the picture. His reaction was immediate—his jaw clenched, his eyes blazing with fury.
“She’s following you,” he said, his voice low and dangerous.
I nodded. “This isn’t just about us anymore, Damon. She’s targeting Kai.”
He stared at the photo for a long moment before grabbing his phone. “I’m calling the police. This ends now.”
The police arrived an hour later, their questions meticulous but frustratingly slow.
“Do you have any evidence linking this to Sienna?” the officer asked.
“She’s been harassing us for weeks,” Damon said, his voice tight. “Blackmail, threats, everything. Now this.”
The officer nodded but looked skeptical. “Without direct evidence tying her to this delivery, it’s hard to build a case. We’ll increase patrols in the area, but I suggest you take additional precautions.”
As they left, frustration boiled over in Damon. “They’re useless. She’s out there, and all they can do is patrol?”
“We’ll figure this out,” I said, though the words felt hollow.
That night, Damon and I sat together, the house eerily quiet around us.
“I’m hiring more security,” Damon said finally. “Armed guards, cameras—whatever it takes.”
I nodded, exhaustion weighing heavy on me. “And what about Sienna? How do we stop her?”
His gaze hardened. “We find a way to expose her. She’s made too many enemies. Someone knows something we can use against her.”
As I leaned into Damon’s shoulder, I realized the full gravity of our situation. Sienna wasn’t going to stop until she destroyed everything we had.
But if she thought we would crumble, she was wrong. Together, we would fight back—no matter the cost
The silence speaks, though no words are shared,
A heavy air, a bond declared.
In the stillness, we both stand,
Feeling the weight of what’s unplanned.
No need to speak, no need to cry,
For in your eyes, I know the why.
The unspoken truths are clear to see,
The walls we build, the ones we free.
Your hand is close, but not quite there,
A distance lingers in the air.
Yet still, I reach, though you're not far,
We’re bound by the same distant star.
The silence holds so much between,
The hurt, the love, the might-have-been.
Words are fragile, easily break,
But silence? It’s the chance we take.
In this pause, I find my peace,
A quiet that will never cease.
For in your presence, I find the space,
To heal, to breathe, to face this race.
What comes next, I cannot say,
But in this moment, we’ll stay.
The weight of silence, heavy yet light,
A promise that we'll be alright.
