Chapter 196 Chapter 196
MICA
"What the hell are you talking about?" Adonis said, his voice was raw and shaking. "I never abandoned you. I never abandoned you, Mica."
"Then where were you?" The words tore out of me before I could stop them, loud and broken, four years of pain crashing out all in one question. "Where were you when I was pregnant and alone and my father and his wife had to ship me off to marry a man three times my age just because they didn't want the shame of an unmarried pregnant daughter in their house? Where were you, Adonis? WHERE WERE YOU?" I yelled.
The room went completely still and
Adonis just stared at me.
His face changed completely, all the anger draining right out of him and something devastating taking its place as he just stood there staring while his mouth opened but nothing came out.
"What did you say?" he whispered.
I looked at him and the fight left my body all at once and all that was left was the raw hurt that had been sitting under the anger the whole time, sitting there since the day I tried to call his dead number, since the day I stood at the Del Monte gate and heard he was never coming back, since the day my father's hand slapped my cheek, since every single morning I woke up alone in a strange city with a baby growing inside me and no one coming to save me.
"You heard me," I said bitterly and turned to leave.
His arms came around me from behind and I fought him immediately, pushing against his arms and pulling at his hands, crying out to let me go, let me go, my voice filled with tears as I said those words, but he held on tight and said nothing while I pushed and pulled and kept repeating his name like a sob until I ran out of strength and went completely still, standing in his arms in the middle of that hotel room just trying to breathe.
He turned me around and I let him because my body moved before my head could stop it.
He gently used his thumb to wipe the tears from my eyes and kissed me softly, it was nothing like the rush in the bathroom, nothing like the desperate thing against the wall, this was slow and completely soft, and my hands went to his chest to push him away but grabbed him instead, holding on tight as tears ran down my face and I kissed him back, tasting the salt on my lips but not caring at all.
It has been four years of burying this deep down and building a life alone and telling myself I was fine, waking up to Leo's eyes every morning and carrying the quiet ache of them, and this was what had been underneath it all, just his hands framing my face and his mouth on mine while my body remembered everything my head had been trying so hard to forget.
He walked me back toward the bed and I went with him, letting him lay me down gently while he looked into my eyes, his own eyes bright and his jaw clenched tight the way it always got when he was trying not to break.
I reached up and touched his cheek and he leaned right into my hand and closed his eyes, and that simple, quiet surrender broke open something in my chest that had been locked away for years.
"Mica," he whispered, and my name on his breath was the softest thing I had heard in all that time.
He kissed me again, this time it held some urgency and I pulled him close, his hand moved to my back and brought down the zip, next came my bra clasp and he had my breast spilling out against his hungry gaze.
He took one into his mouth and I sucked in a breath and electric shot through my spine, I ached into him.
I could tell how hard he was trying to restrain himself but failing, right now, I didn't want him to restrain himself so my hand found it's way into his pant and wrapped around his erection, gosh, he was big, far bigger than I could remember.
He jerked at my touch and muttered a curse as he hurriedly took off his pants, freeing his erection and came right back to the bedh.
"Adonis," I whispered, he just moved my legs wide apart and pushed his penis in.
My body accepted him, he paused to let my body adjust to his size then started sliding in and out, slowly at first but then, his tempo increased.
Our bodies moved together like two people who had been apart so long that all they wanted was to devour each other, relearning a language our skin had never forgotten even when our minds tried to, my body getting to adjust to his new size and I buried my face into his neck, breathing him in and feeling that deep rightness that didn't need to prove anything.
The tears kept falling asleep he pounded into me, not the sad tears, it was all my feelings bottled up and the only way to let it through was tears, and Adonis understood, he kissed every tears and then, I choke as pleasure made my back ache, Adonis groaned in ecstasy and we both came apart in each other's arms.
Afterward, the room was so quiet.
I lay with my head resting on his chest while his arms wrapped around me, the city outside the window moving through the night while the room stayed warm and still around us, filled with the soft silence of two people who had finally found their way back to each other and weren't ready to break the moment.
His lips touched my ear.
"I never abandoned you," he said, his voice low and completely undefended. "Never. Not once."
I lay against him and listened.
"My father sent me away the night of the accident," he said and I frowned.
"What accident?"
"On prom night, as I was going home, I hit someone with my car and he died, the boy I killed, his brother was Scar, a very powerful Mafia and Scar wanted blood, so my father made a deal to keep me alive, but the deal meant I had to disappear completely. No phone, no contact, no way to reach anyone or be reached." His arms tightened around me. "They put me on a private island with two guards and nothing else, and I tried to get a phone every single day, but they refused every time."
I lay completely still, listening as every single word reshaped the past inside my heart.
"When I finally came back," he said, "we were driving through the city and I saw you in a white dress outside a hall, a man with his arm around your waist as you got into a car, and the car just drove away. I didn't understand what I was looking at, and by the time I did, it was too late."
His voice cracked, and the sound of it cut right through me.
"I thought you had moved on," he said softly. "I thought you had chosen someone else while I was gone, so I went home and locked myself away and told myself it was over. I didn't know about the baby. I didn't know about your father or the man they forced on you. I just saw you getting married and I assumed."
I pressed my lips against his warm chest.
"You didn't abandon me," I whispered, almost to myself, speechless that everything that happened was just a misunderstanding, just a misunderstanding that has cost us years apart.
I pressed my face harder into his chest and let the tears fall again, not trying to hold them back or hide them anymore, just letting them flow while he held me tight and kissed the top of my head in the quiet room.
I cried for Leo asking why he didn't have a daddy like the other kids.
I cried for every single morning I woke up and carried the whole world on my back alone, telling myself I didn't need anyone while knowing deep down it was a lie.
I cried for all of it while Adonis held me, and when there were no tears left, I just lay against his chest and breathed in the quiet warmth of the room.
"I'm not going anywhere," he whispered into my hair. "Not again. Never again."
I pressed my hand flat over his heart, feeling the steady beat against my palm, and I closed my eyes, letting the world shrink
down to just this room.
I had him back.
Whatever came next, I had him back.
