Chapter 192 Chapter 192
ADORE
The moment the door closed behind Angelo, I stopped pretending.
I pressed both hands over my face and let the tears fall, fast and heavy, completely washing away the calm front I had been holding for the last hour. While Angelo sat beside my bed, holding my hand so gently and looking at me with those heartbroken eyes, I had stared back like he was a complete stranger.
I had watched something inside him shatter into pieces, feeling it break inside me too, but I forced my face to stay cold and blank anyway.
I was not ready.
That was the plain, painful truth of it.
When he walked through that door, rushed across the room, and pulled me tight against his chest, pressing his face into my hair and whispering you are alive like the words had been choking him since the warehouse, everything inside me went at once. The deep love, the massive relief, the burning rage, and the heavy grief all hit me at the exact same time. My arms had naturally started to wrap around his back, but I forced them to stop because I was not going to let my body give in when my heart was still so broken.
I was always just a revenge tool for him, he had taken my love as a weakness to get married to me as a result of a deal he made with my father.
I had given him four years of my whole heart and total trust. Just this morning, I had left the hospital with a positive pregnancy test in my bag, smiling as I thought of how to tell him the good news.
He must have been so sure while securing that deal that I will say yes to him, what a fool I was but not anymore.
My hands went to my still flat stomach, my precious baby had survived with me and now I had to figure out what I want and what I have to do
For now, I needed time to breathe.
I needed to be somewhere away from his desperate, loving eyes so I could think straight. Whenever he looked at me like that, my heart pulled toward him in ways my head knew it shouldn't. Right now, I needed my head to lead the way, not my soft feelings, not the deep love, and not the warm comfort of his hand that I had held onto for far too long.
The door clicked open and I quickly wiped away the wet tears from my cheeks as I looked up.
It was my mother.
My mother stepped inside, closing the door softly behind her. She walked over towards me and hugged me tight, assuring herself that I was okay, then she sat down on the chair beside my bed and just looked at my face for a long moment without saying a word.
Looking back at her, the tears threatened to spill over again, and I squeezed my jaw tight to keep them in.
"I know you remember everything," she said quietly.
I stared at her, caught off guard then looked down at my hands resting on the white blanket, feeling hot tears spill over anyway. My mother reached out and placed her hand over mine and I slowly met her gaze. Staring at her face, I felt the heavy weight of all the times she had tried to warn me while I blindly turned a blind eye.
"What do I do with this, Mother?" my voice cracked into a soft sob. "He agreed to marry me because my father bought him off with an empire. Everything I thought was real was just a trade, and I do not know how to handle that." I bit my lip hard, trying to stay still. "I love him. That is the worst part. I love him so much, but I am so angry at him, and I cannot keep both of those feelings inside me without them tearing me apart."
My mother looked at me, her own eyes shiny with unshed tears.
"I understand how you feel and I want you to know that I am not blaming you for anything, you lived him but watching how he broke down when you were hurt right here in this hospital, I'd say he feels the same way about you," she whispered.
I shook my head, "I don't know mother, I feel it has always been me loving him, it has always been me giving and somewhere along the line, I lost myself, I faked this memory just to find myself again, I want to be free, to do things that on a norm I wouldn't do because I was his wife, I don't just want to be his wife mom, I want to find Adore."
My mother smiled through her tears, "whatever you want baby girl, you can count on me."
"Do not tell him that I don't have amnesia, I want to see where this leads, I also want to test his limit, I have been proving my love for him, it's time he proves his."
My mother patted my hair, "your secret is safe with me baby girl but in the course of this, do not do something you'll regret."
"I'll keep that in mind mother." I said and lay down, feeling sleepy already.
My eyes dropped close while my mother sat there watching me until I drifted off.
