Chapter 181 Chapter 181
MICA
I made it to the end of my shift without breaking down.
I did not know how. I could not remember the last two hours if someone asked me to. But I made it. I checked in guests, answered their questions, and smiled at them. I did my job like a robot while my heart was crying inside.
I could not stop thinking about the VIP room.
Whatever he does is his business. He left me years ago, and I do not want a mean guy like him in my life.
But why does seeing him with other girls hurt so much? He is a big star, so of course girls love him. But damn, he is even more handsome than before. If being handsome was a crime, he would be guilty.
When I saw that girl holding him, I wanted to pull her hair and scream that he was mine. But that was silly. I do not have any right to say that anymore. He is not my boyfriend.
I finished work and walked straight to the staff bathroom at the end of the hall. I pushed the door open, turned on the cold water, put my hands on the sink, and looked at myself in the mirror.
I looked terrible, and it was all because of Adonis. Damn him.
I stood at the sink and suddenly felt so tired. All the bad feelings I had hidden came rushing out.
I tried not to cry as I remembered him kissing that girl.
He did not look sorry. He did not feel bad. He looked happy that he hurt me.
He knew it would break my heart, and he did it anyway.
I wiped away a single tear. I spent four years building a good life for myself. A warm home for Leo, and a life that belonged only to me. It made me so angry that he could just walk back in and make my heart beat fast. It made me angry that just seeing him made me shake.
I squeezed the edge of the sink hard and took a slow breath. I will be okay. I just have to see him for a few more days. After his game finals are over, he will go away.
The door opened and I turned around fast.
Adonis was standing right there, looking at me. My heart beat so fast that I pressed my hand against my chest and stared at him in shock.
"What are you doing here?" I asked. My voice sounded weak and scared, which made me mad. "This is for staff only. Guests cannot come in here. You need to..."
"I don't care," he growled. He walked in and let the door shut behind him.
My eyes went wide with fear as he stepped toward me. I backed up until my back hit the sink. I had nowhere left to run.
He put both of his hands on the counter on either side of me, trapping me. He leaned in so close that his hot breath hit my face. I could see every emotion in his eyes—he was angry, hurt, and bitter. But under all of that, I saw a deep love that shouldn't be there after all this time.
My breathing changed, and I hated myself for it.
"What are you doing?" I whispered.
"Why are you working in a hotel?" he asked. His voice was quiet and rough. "Does your husband know you serve drinks to other men every day? Does he let you do this?"
"That is none of your business," I said. I tried very hard to keep my voice calm, even though it was hard.
"None of my business?" he repeated. Those words made him sound so bitter and hurt. "You were mine, Mica. You were mine before him. But you picked him. You had his child. And I am just supposed to stand here and pretend it doesn't hurt?"
I swallowed hard. My heart was pounding like a drum, but I stayed quiet.
"Why?" he whispered. His voice got lower and scarier. "Why did you marry him? Does he make you feel good like I did?" He put his face close to my ear, his lips almost touching mine. "When he kisses you, do you feel the fire you felt with me?" He leaned even closer. "Does your body melt into his the way it did with me?"
I was shaking all over.
I could feel my knees shaking against the sink. I hated it, but I couldn't stop it. I hated that four years of hard work and strength disappeared just because he was standing close to me. I hated how he looked at me. And worst of all, I felt myself leaning toward him. I couldn't stop myself. I missed his lips. I missed his arms holding me tight.
I closed my eyes, ready to let him kiss me. But then his voice turned mean and cold.
"You let him touch you. You even had his bastard son."
My eyes snapped open. I shoved him away with all my strength.
How dare he call my sweet boy a bastard?
I slapped his face as hard as I could. The sharp crack of my hand hit the quiet room. His head snapped to the side. He turned back to glare at me, his cheek red.
I was breathing fast and hard, my chest burning with pure rage. I pointed my finger at his face and yelled in a fierce whisper.
"You cannot judge me! You are the one who ran away and left me when I needed you most!"
He looked confused, his forehead pulling together. "What do you mean by that?"
I did not answer him. I grabbed my clipboard from the counter, pushed past him, and ran out the door.
I was so glad the hallway was empty. I walked as fast as I could, tears pouring down my face. I didn't wipe them away. I didn't slow down, and I didn't look back.
I just needed to run away and stay away from the bastard who still had the power to break my heart into pieces.
