I Will Do It
I Will Do It
AIDEN
After Ella left my house, I felt really sad and depressed. Everything had gotten out of hand in a way I never planned or expected. Yes, I had always loved Ella, but I never wanted to hurt her. Her happiness was important to me.
Although deep down, I had wished that her relationship with Lucas would not work out, I still supported her. I was true to her and helped her in whatever she asked me to do. It was sad that I had caused her this level of pain.
I had also hurt Nova, and I regretted it. But I didn't know what to do. Back when Nova was making advances at me, I felt somehow about rejecting her. I didn't know how to push her away, and the only reason I had gotten close was because of the issue involving Lucas. And now, I ended up hurting her.
But I knew what I needed to do. I was going to make things right for Ella because she wasn't a bad person. Yes, she could be dramatic and she had her issues, but she was a good person. She was my best friend.
After deciding on what to do, I called Nova, but she didn't take my calls. I used a different number and called her again. When she picked up, I said, "Please don't hang up, Nova. Please, I need to see you. I just want to talk."
"I don't want to see you." Nova replied, "I have nothing to say to you. Please just leave me alone. Haven't you done enough? What more do you want?"
"Please, Nova," I begged. "I promise I won't take too much of your time. I just want to see you briefly. I have to say a few words to you, please."
Nova sighed, "Alright then, you can meet me in front of my house. I'll come outside, but you better not waste my time because I have a lot of important things to do."
"I know," I said to her, "I promise that I won't waste your time."
When Nova came out of the house and met me outside the gate, I said, "I just want to explain everything that happened a few weeks ago. Ella told me that she had fallen in love with someone. His name was Lucas, and she just found out he was your dad.
That was the day we wrote our chemistry test. Of course, I was sad when I heard that because, as I said when I was drunk, I have had feelings for Ella for a long time, but I never told her. I couldn't do it because I knew she didn't feel the same way. She only saw me as her brother, and I believed she was so focused on her education.
Since I didn't see her showing interest in any boy or any guy, I thought she wasn't interested in such things until after she graduated from college. So, I told myself that even if I eventually tell her, it would be sometime in the future, after we graduated.
When she told me about Lucas, she said that she was already in love with him and wanted to tell him about it, but she was worried that because of her relationship with you, it wouldn't work out. If Lucas found out that both of you were enemies, he wouldn't want to accept her.
She said she wanted to become friends with you, but she didn't know how to do it because she knew that you wouldn't want to have anything to do with her. She had noticed that you did not hate me and were friendly towards me, so she wanted me to be the connecting bridge between the both of you.
That was why I approached you in the first place, and as Ella asked me to, my intentions were just to get the both of you to become friends. By doing so, you and I became closer than I planned, and then I came to like you.
I really liked you because I realize you were cool, nice, and humble. You're a sweet girl, yes, it was just unfortunate that I was already in love with Ella.
And when you asked me if I loved you or wanted to be your boyfriend, you were looking at me with so much anticipation. I just didn't know how, I guess I was afraid that I was going to hurt you if I said "no," which I now realize was a big mistake, I shouldn't have done that. I should have been honest from the start, and I'm very sorry."
She scuffed, "Oh really? Did Ella send you to tell me all this?"
I smiled bitterly, "Ella wants nothing to do with me. She has ended our lifelong friendship. So I'm not doing this for her. I just feel that you deserve to know the truth, and I want to tell you that I'm sorry.
I don't expect you to forgive me right away, but I hope that someday, you will be able to get rid of the anger you feel toward me.
I never intended to hurt you. I'm very sorry. And I don't know what will happen between you and Ella, but in all honesty, Ella never asked me to date you, which is why I never asked you out.
I'm sorry that I lied to you and said that I wanted you to be my girlfriend. I should have just told you the truth. Please, if it's possible, forgive me. That's all I came to say. Thank you very much for seeing me."
After speaking, I turned around and left. I didn't know if she was going to believe what I said or if she was going to act on it, but at least, I felt a bit relieved because I knew that I had told her the whole truth.
ELLA
After thinking about everything, I decided to accept my reality. There was nothing I could do. I had lost Lucas. He didn't even want to hear my voice. It was that bad. I had sent him a text, and I knew he must have read it, but then he didn't say anything to me. I guess, as he said, the bottom line was Nova. He couldn't be with me, because Nova hated me so much. Perhaps it was for the best.
My dad didn't want him. My dad said he wouldn't have approved of him, so I had to forget Lucas. It was painful, very painful, and it was likely that I would never be able to truly move on. I might never be able to love anyone as much as I loved Lucas, but I just had to learn to live with the pain.
It was going to affect my studies, I knew that for a fact, just as I knew Nova would also be affected. But then I would do my best to focus and graduate, just as I had always dreamed. At the very least, I could come out as the best or one of the best.
When I went to school the next day, I saw Nova. Her eyes caught mine, and I smiled at her, but she looked away.
"Hi Nova," I said, but she ignored me. Of course, it was normal for me to expect that, especially because she thought I was the devil. Even though I had given up on Lucas, I was determined to tell her the truth. I wouldn't let everything end the way it was. Nova and I would probably never be friends, but it was good for her to know the truth.
During my classes, I was distracted. Although I told myself that I was going to move on, all I could think about was Lucas. My mind kept taking me back to the moments we shared, the brief yet sweet moments. How loving and amazing he had been to me. Perhaps someday, I would find that in someone else.
After our classes, I saw Nova walking away with a few of her friends. I ran after her. "Excuse me, Nova, please, I need to talk to you."
She replied without turning, "I'm not interested in whatever you have to say."
"Please, I'm begging you, Nova," I said.
Her friends who stood by her side were surprised, especially because I said I was begging, so they instantly excused us.
She turned, "What do you want to do? Damage control? It's not going to work, okay? Listen, I have figured you out, and no matter what you say, it won't change the fact that you're evil.
You're mean, and for the sake of coming out on top, you played with my feelings. You sent your so-called best friend after me."
"No... Listen, Nova," I said. "I have something to say. I'm not telling you this because I want to get back with your dad. I know that between the both of us, everything is ruined, and will never go back to the way it was. But then, I still feel that I owe it to you to say the truth.
I love Lucas so much, right from the moment, I set my eyes on him. Yes, it was love at first sight and everything I did was just in a bid to get his approval.
First of all, I never knew about Aiden's feelings for me. If I knew, I wouldn't have even kept him so close. We were practically like brother and sister. If I had even the slightest inkling that he had such feelings towards me, I would not have let him get so close to me because I never felt the same way.
If I felt the same way, everyone would have known we were a couple. I always only saw him as my best friend. Yes, I sent him to you, and I knew you had feelings for him, but I didn't think things would turn out this way, and that was the mistake I made.
It was wrong of me to try to build a friendship with you on a lie or with a motive, and that's what I'm apologizing for. I hurt you and I hurt Lucas, which is what I never planned for.
I need you to know that I never approached your father because of you. When I first fell for Lucas, I didn't know he was your father. I had just crashed into his car, and he came out to give me an earful.
It was amazing because despite how much he spoke, I just kept staring at him, and I fell for him right at that instance. That's the truth.
I gave myself to him, which is something I would never do just to come out on top. I'm sure you would never do something like that just to come out on top either. I love your father so much, and this is the first time I have ever felt this way about anyone in my life."
I have always been a go-getter, and that's something you know, so I just decided to go ahead and tell Lucas how I felt about him, and something came out of it. It was brief, and I'm willing to live with the memories, but I just wanted to let you know that I never meant to hurt you, and I'm very sorry about everything.
I know we can never be friends, and I know that Aiden and I won't get back together as friends either, but at the very least, I just want you to know that I'm sorry about everything that happened. I wish you all the best. Thanks very much for giving me an audience."
She rolled her eyes "Okay, alright. You can go now. I've heard everything you said and I'm not sorry to tell you that it makes no difference to me."
I turned, walked away sadly to my car, and drove back home.
NOVA
After listening to Ella and watching her walk away, I sighed sadly. Even if she had truly fallen in love with my father, how could I let someone who had hurt me so much be with him? No, perhaps it was best for everything to end the way it had.
She had already given up, and my dad had given up as well. I didn't need someone like her in my life or my father's house. It was only a matter of time before everything would return to normal. This would not break me. No. I would still come out best because that's the plan I've always had for myself.
As I went back home, I perceived something delicious coming from the kitchen and smiled excitedly. I ran to the kitchen and saw my dad wearing an apron and cooking. I was so happy.
I had been worried that he would be badly affected by the breakup since he hadn't been with a woman in years. But seeing him all active and back to the father I once knew, made me so happy.
"Wow, Dad, what's the occasion today?" I asked.
"Nothing," he replied. "I just want to make food for my beloved daughter."
"Well, it's been a while since you did this, and I'm very grateful," I replied.
After preparing the food, we ate together. My dad was happy, and I felt on top of the world. Afterward, I retired to my room. After a while, I came out and saw my dad in the living room. I was very surprised.
There were bottles of wine on the floor, and he was wasted. He probably thought I was asleep, which was why he drank so much.
As I stared at him, I felt very sad. I thought everything had gone back to normal, but it seemed my dad was still struggling. He was still in pain. He must be holding himself back for my sake.
How could I move on if my dad was going through so much? Could it be that Ella truly loved my father as she said? I hated her. Despite her apologies and explanations, I still hated her.
But then I loved my dad, and I couldn't bear to see him so miserable. If he were in my shoes, he would do anything to see me smile. I guess I needed to do the same for him, so I made a decision.
The next day after school, I walked up to Ella and said, "You did speak to me yesterday and apologized for hurting me, right?"
"Yes," she nodded. "That's right."
"Okay, umm... I've figured out something. If you can do what I want, I will forgive you."
"Really?" she asked.
"Yes. Listen, I just need you to meet someone, that's all. And....if I'm pleased by the turnout of the meeting. I will forgive you," I said.
She smiled. "Oh, this is funny, but okay. I'll do it. As long as it makes you feel better, I will do it."
"Alright then, let's go," I said.
