Chapter 96

Chapter 96

Early in the morning, Cleo had her driver take her home.

I say home, but that place didn't belong to her anymore.

I asked Levi if he would let Michael off the hook. He said he would make Michael pay dearly.

On the surface, Levi was trying to make his sister feel better, but when it came to settling scores, he absolutely meant business.

He didn't care how much money and resources he invested. He was just furious that Michael would insult his sister like that and show no respect for the Morgan family's reputation.

Everyone was saying the Morgan family had raised an ungrateful wolf. Others said being a live-in son-in-law was tough, and that Cleo's bad temper was no wonder her husband cheated.

Anyway, there was a lot of gossip, and Levi wasn't going to turn a deaf ear to it.

"Blair, morning."

Nola pushed open the office door and peeked at me through the crack.

"Come on in. Why are you standing at the door?"

Sometimes I envied Nola—envied her being single, envied how she was always carefree like a child.

"So, did you sort out the family stuff? Is Levi's sister still staying at your place?"

"Are you here for some firsthand gossip?"

I stood up and poured her a glass of water.

Nola glanced at the glass. "That's pretty plain. You could at least get me a coffee."

"I'll transfer you some money, and you can have your secretary go buy one? Or I could order delivery for you, though having a delivery person come such a short distance doesn't seem right."

"Look at you, even considering the delivery person's feelings. Living like this must be exhausting. Cleo can't stay at your place forever, right?"

I sighed. "Well, what can I say? She's pretty pitiful, too."

Nola rolled her eyes at me. "When she was bossing you around and bullying you, you didn't mention that at all."

Just as I was about to speak, someone knocked on the door.

"Come in."

The door slowly opened, and two cups of coffee came in first.

Then John appeared with a big smile. "Good morning, ladies."

Nola glared at him like she wanted to tear him apart.

I secretly smiled. These two really knew how to play—coming to the office this early to flirt.

"Your coffee's here, go get it."

I could barely hold back my laughter. She'd just mentioned coffee, and someone immediately delivered it.

"What are you doing here? Don't you have work?"

Nola's face darkened. She seemed unhappy about his arrival. She'd been saying he annoyed her a few days ago, so it looked like they still hadn't made up.

John pointed at me. "I've asked you several times, and you kept refusing. I don't have anything at the company today, so I had to come see her no matter what."

I was confused. "You wanted to see me?"

What was this about? We'd only met once.

Nola walked over to him, snatched the coffee from his hands, and tried to push him out.

"Got the stuff, now get going."

John grabbed the doorframe. "You can't just take the gift and not do anything. I just want to meet Mr. Morgan once. Is that so hard?"

I really saw his obsession with Levi now. No wonder Nola looked down on it. He probably wanted me to introduce him to Levi.

"Nola, didn't you tell him about my plan? In a few days, when I'm free, I'll organize a get-together and definitely introduce them."

"Wow, there's something like that? Why didn't you tell me? Were you planning to surprise me?" John tilted his head, looking at Nola.

Nola was so annoyed with him. He was always so goofy, like some rich family's silly son.

"Go, go, you're driving me crazy."

"I'm not leaving. I mainly came because I missed you. I came to see you." John playfully winked at her.

I was really getting sick of their sweetness. Being this flirty so early in the morning wasn't great.

"Come with me."

Nola grabbed him and tried to pull him out, but couldn't budge him at all.

John clung to the door and said to me, "I have a bold idea—why don't we go find Mr. Morgan right now? Blair, what do you think?"

He was calling me by my name. Did he consider me a friend now?

"Blair, don't listen to his nonsense. I'm going to kick him out right now for the good of the people." Nola pushed hard against him while he gritted his teeth and held on.

These two clowns were something else.

I checked the time. Around now, Levi should be done with his meeting. Usually, he'd be in his office reviewing documents, so he should be free.

And John was so funny, he sparked my playful side. Recent events had been so stressful—why not skip work and go for a spin? It was my own company anyway; I made the rules.

"Stop pushing me, ease up a bit."

"Come with me, stop embarrassing yourself."

I got up, grabbed my car keys and bag from the desk.

"Let's go, I'll take you there."

Nola couldn't believe it. I never did this kind of pointless thing during work hours. And going to see Levi—that was a zero probability event.

"Blair, don't mess around with him. Don't let it affect your relationship with your husband." Nola tried to stop me.

John wrapped his arms around her. "Honey, that's not right. She already agreed, you can't be a buzzkill."

"Let go of me. This is the office; it's not appropriate."

I walked over to them. "If we're going, let's go now."

"Let's go, let's go."

John released Nola and gave her a look, inviting her to come along. Nola was worried he'd cause trouble, so she followed us.

I was going to drive, but John, though funny and playful, was actually quite a gentleman. He insisted on driving us.

We arrived at Levi's company quickly. Since I used to work at the Morgan Group, security wasn't too strict. I was surprised that Levi was still keeping my position open.

We went through smoothly and ran into a few colleagues. Seeing I had people with me, they didn't say much.

I saw James coming out of Levi's office. He looked like he wanted to say something, but stopped himself, then turned and went back into his office.

"I have to say, Mr. Morgan's company is really big."

Nola was speechless. "You're just here to watch the show. Don't you know what level you're at?"

"Hey, hey, that's not a nice thing to say."

They'd been bickering the whole way and still couldn't stop. They made me laugh so many times.

"Come on, follow me."

I knocked on the office door. Levi said, "Come in."

I pushed the door open and peeked in to see him putting on his jacket.

"Is something wrong at home?" Levi asked.

He'd been a bit on edge these past couple of days, thinking something had happened at home again.

I shook my head. "No."

"Then come in and talk."

Levi finished buttoning up and sat down.

"Come in."

I opened the door wide and let the two of them in.

Levi saw the three of us filing in, and his eyes widened. The next second, he sat up straight and composed himself.

"Hello, Mr. Morgan. I've heard so much about you. It's an honor to meet you."

John excitedly greeted Levi. As he walked toward him, he stumbled and almost fell, catching himself on the desk to steady himself.

I glanced over to see Nola gritting her teeth like she wanted to eat him alive...
