Chapter 69
At the dinner party, glasses clinked, and people mingled with drinks flowing.
I'm not good at drinking. Nola took me around to meet many friends, and whenever it came to drinking, she always stepped in front of me and explained that I couldn't drink.
Nola said I tend to lose control when drunk, and she didn't want to see me make a fool of myself.
I really couldn't guarantee I could control myself in this regard - otherwise, I wouldn't have gotten drunk before and thought I was dreaming.
Nola pulled me to find a quiet spot to sit down. "Blair, that's about enough. Those are basically all the people you need to know."
"Are you okay? You've had quite a bit to drink."
"This is nothing. Who am I? I can drink a thousand cups without getting drunk." As Nola spoke, she shook her glass again and downed it in one gulp.
She was really a heavy drinker - it seemed like she couldn't go a day without drinking.
I checked the time. It was already quite late. I hadn't told Levi, only mentioned to Indigo that I had a business dinner.
Since Arabella was locked up, things had been peaceful.
I told Levi he didn't need to have that bodyguard follow me anymore - it was too much for a small secretary like me to have that kind of security detail.
People were already suspicious about my relationship with him, and after that scene Jessa made, many people at the company knew about it.
"Should we head home?"
Nola rolled her eyes at me. "No ambition. What's the point of going home? It's rare you have time to relax, and you don't even have to take care of the kid."
"Even if I go home, I don't have to take care of her. Celestia is doing fine at the Morgan mansion."
To keep Celestia from getting bored, I had Faye move in too. She went back every day to share company matters with Aiden, which helped pass the time.
Nola giggled. "How about this - come to my place. We haven't had an all-night chat in forever."
I shook my head. "No, no, no. I don't stay up late."
"Come on, I think you're just missing Levi. Without Jessa being annoying, I bet you two are in the honeymoon phase now?" Nola joked.
"Honeymoon phase? There's nothing going on!"
Although it was just the two of us at home now, seemingly with more space, things between us were still the same as before.
Nola squinted her eyes, looking over there. I followed her gaze.
"Blair, is that Jessa? And the guy next to her looks like one of my blind dates..."
I looked carefully. It was indeed Jessa.
"It really is him. I'm so done. He's just a good-for-nothing playboy. Though his dad works pretty hard."
"How did they end up together?"
I watched as Jessa walked toward us with her arm linked through that man's.
Nola frowned. "His name is Alaric Kingsley. His family always puts money first."
I laughed at her comment. "How can you talk about people like that?"
"They're always setting me up on blind dates. I label them this way so I can tell them apart; otherwise, I can't remember them all." Nola had really met countless people.
"Should we leave?"
I had finally gotten some peace and quiet, and I really didn't want to see Jessa.
"Too late. They're clearly coming for us."
Nola stood up and poured herself another drink.
"Well, well, long time no see."
Alaric spoke first, addressing Nola with a playful tone.
"Nothing worth seeing anyway."
Nola didn't take him seriously at all. I looked him up and down - he did seem rather frivolous.
"Well, I should thank you then. Otherwise, I wouldn't have found such a great girlfriend." Alaric's tone was full of showing off.
"Oh, you found yourself a celebrity girlfriend? Lucky you." Nola smiled brightly.
Alaric looked smug. "Of course. Some people have good taste."
"Some people just like picking up trash."
As soon as Nola finished speaking, Jessa got upset.
"How can you talk like that!"
"Baby, don't bother with her. She has no taste."
Nola was almost disgusted to death by him and didn't want to look at them.
I really didn't expect Jessa to get together with someone else so quickly. Even if she needed money, it shouldn't be this fast.
Maybe Levi pulling his investment was a heavy blow to her, but still, there was no need to be this desperate.
Though Alaric looked decent enough - if Nola hadn't said anything, I wouldn't have been able to tell at first glance that he was such a bad person.
"Apologize to me."
Jessa suddenly threw a tantrum, demanding that Nola apologize to her.
It was clearly Alaric who provoked them first, and Nola wasn't deliberately targeting Jessa.
"No way!"
Nola grabbed my hand. "Let's go. Don't let them pollute our eyes."
"You!"
"Baby, don't be angry. She's just jealous of us." Alaric was really overconfident.
Jessa acted all cute, and the two of them were all lovey-dovey - it was making us sick.
I felt goosebumps rising on my skin. When she used to act cute with Levi, I didn't feel this way. I don't know what was different, but seeing her act like this with Alaric, I really couldn't stand it.
"Let's get out of here."
I whispered to Nola. If I watched any longer, I'd die of embarrassment.
"Okay."
Nola pulled me forward, but Jessa grabbed my arm.
I turned back, and she was dragged half a step forward.
"What are you doing?" My wrist hurt from being pulled.
Jessa showed an evil smile. "Blair, I'm going to get better and better. Just you wait."
"Are you sick? Let go of me."
Whether she was doing well or not had nothing to do with me. Did finding a boyfriend mean she was doing better?
"Jessa, let go, or I won't be nice about it!"
Nola had her fist ready. She knew martial arts, and I was really afraid she couldn't hold back from punching Jessa a couple of times - that would really hurt her badly.
"Nola, don't try to scare people. What, are you going to hit someone?" Alaric's mouth was really asking for it.
"What, you want to feel it first?"
Nola raised her fist, scaring Alaric into blinking rapidly.
"Blair..."
"Ms. Skye, the car is ready."
Levi's driver suddenly interrupted Jessa. It seemed Jessa recognized him, too, though Alaric didn't.
Perhaps to avoid exposing my identity, Levi had the driver use Nola's name.
"Let's go."
I grabbed Nola's hand, really afraid she'd lose control and beat them up.
Nola was quick to react, too. Knowing this was someone Levi arranged to pick me up, she followed me.
Jessa didn't pester us anymore. She had gotten together with someone else so quickly - she probably didn't want Levi to know, even though it was Levi who didn't want her.
"Blair, I won't get in the car. I called a designated driver."
"You've had a lot to drink. Let me take you home. You can get your car tomorrow." I wasn't comfortable with her going home alone.
Nola raised an eyebrow. "He specially sent someone to pick you up. He really cares about you."
I felt helpless. "I feel like he installed a tracker on me. How else would he know where I am?"
I clearly didn't tell Levi my schedule. How did he know I was here? Maybe he arranged for someone to watch me secretly again?
"Mrs. Morgan, please get in the car."
Was the driver in a hurry to report back?
