Chapter 59

Chapter 59

When you're carrying something heavy in your heart, it's easy to feel exhausted.

Ever since Faye told me about Arabella's big scandal, I've been feeling like this world is pretty insane these past few days.

Back then, she destroyed my family, and now she's destroying her own family.

Arabella herself can't behave, and when her daughter steals someone else's husband, not only does she not think Jessa is wrong, she actually supports what Jessa is doing. Truly, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

I parked the car and sent Faye a message. I brought some gifts for her and Celestia, and needed them to give me a hand.

I figured the kids would still like to get their own gifts - it would bring them more joy that way.

From a distance, I saw Indigo pacing by the door. It looked like something had happened at home.

"Indigo, where are the kids? Why aren't they coming out to get their things?"

I got out of work a bit late today. Looking at my phone, Faye should have been home already, and if Levi had nothing going on, he should be home too.

"Mrs. Morgan, we have a visitor. I had Celestia go play in Miss Faye's room."

So maybe they were having fun playing and didn't see my message.

"Who's here?"

Usually, we rarely have visitors here. The most frequent one in the past six months has been Jessa. Every time she comes, Indigo does get quite stressed out. Could it be her?

"Mr. Greer."

Chase?

My head instantly started buzzing. What was he doing here? Last time Levi gave him money to send him away, so why is he here again?

"Is Levi home?"

"Mr. Morgan isn't back yet. Faye said he had something come up at the last minute, so he had her come home first."

It's actually better that Levi isn't home. If he were here, having that scoundrel Chase around would be too much trouble.

Probably hearing our conversation, Chase walked over from the living room on his own.

"My precious Blair is home. Work must have been tiring, huh?"

Chase smiled kind of sleazily, and combined with what he said, it made me feel disgusted.

"What are you doing here?"

I didn't want to talk to him much. I already knew in my heart that he was here for nothing but money.

"I came to see you. We haven't been in touch much since you came back to the country. How about coming home for dinner this weekend when you're free?"

Chase is inviting me to dinner?

Really ironic.

"No need."

I rejected him directly. Back then, he abandoned his wife and daughter, and now that I'm married to Levi, he acknowledges me as his daughter again?

He's not acknowledging me - he's acknowledging money.

"Arabella welcomes you too. What happened before is all in the past. From now on, we're all family, and you should help your sister out more."

"I should help her?"

I laughed mockingly. "Instead of trying to butter me up here, you should go home and cook the books some more. You can easily get 2 million that way - now that's a good deal."

Chase's expression suddenly changed. Hearing me mention cooking the books, his "good deeds" were exposed just like that.

"How do you know?"

"Don't you know your daughter's compensation was to our company? We drafted the contract. We know it best. We could tell right away that you pulled some tricks."

That sense of powerlessness from being exposed showed completely on Chase. He slumped onto the sofa, too guilty to speak.

"Indigo, I'm a bit tired. Please show him out."

I figured Chase wouldn't stick around, refusing to leave now.

"I'm getting old now and have no heart for business anymore. Since you won't help make connections either, just give me some support money."

Chase is asking me for support money?

I felt sick to my stomach. I was so bitter I almost cried. How could this man be so shameless? Did he ever give me a cent of child support?

And now he just opens his mouth, asking for support money?

"Arabella wants to buy an insurance policy. We're getting to that age soon and will be able to get the money quickly. You just need to buy that insurance."

What a scheme. But he's really not much of a man either, wanting money for himself but using someone else as an excuse.

Though I bet Arabella buying insurance isn't for him to spend either. What about that young man she's keeping on the side?

Each one more bizarre than the last, too lazy to do anything themselves, just going around scamming people.

I cut ties with him long ago. Making this kind of demand is really too much.

"You want support money?"

"Yeah."

"Then first pay back all my child support, at the same rate as your support money."

I won't give him any benefit. You can't show this kind of person even a bit of kindness.

Chase got anxious. He pointed at me, "You're really unfilial. Look how well you're doing now. The Morgan family is so rich, and you're still asking me for child support."

"The Morgan family has money, but that's their money. I'm doing well because I got away from parasites like you. You squandered my mother's fortune, you brought a wolf into the house. What right do you have to talk to me?"

"If you have this time, you should look carefully at your own household and see what's making you unable to make ends meet."

I subtly reminded him. Arabella must not just be keeping a man - she's probably also transferred his assets. Maybe the Greer family is already just an empty shell.

And Arabella and Chase's grabbing money everywhere is all for their own escape routes. They don't even care about Jessa's future - as long as they have money.

"My family is none of your business."

"Oh, so now we're not family anymore?"

I showed a bitter smile. Chase was really too ridiculous. Not a bit of a father's demeanor. I'm afraid in his eyes, my entire existence is just a check.

"I'm not talking to you."

Chase probably saw Levi coming home and instantly changed his face again, as if nothing had just happened.

I panicked inside. This time, the excuse was support money, which involved me. How would Levi handle this?

I really should have had security kick him out before Levi got back.

"Levi, you're home."

I have to say, when it comes to changing faces, I really admire Chase. He stopped calling him Mr. Morgan and started copying how Jessa addresses Levi.

Levi looked confused and glanced at me.

"I just discussed it with Blair. I'm getting old, and my abilities are getting worse. Blair should pay some support money now."

"You agreed?"

Levi asked me.

I shook my head.

Chase laughed falsely. "Well, women can't make decisions about some things. That's why I'm waiting for you to come home."

"She can make the decision."

Levi took off his jacket, sat down, and poured out the tea on the table.

"Then let's settle this matter."

"I won't give you a cent."

I raised my voice and said firmly to him.

Chase glared at me, then looked at Levi obsequiously. "You see, this is just a woman's narrow view."

Levi leaned back lazily. "I have no obligation in this matter."

Suddenly, the atmosphere dropped to freezing point. Chase, who had miscalculated, didn't expect that Levi wouldn't give money this time. He thought he could smoothly make unlimited withdrawals from Levi.

"For Blair's sake, considering I'm already old..."

"Indigo, please show him out."

I didn't want to hear him continue. Using the term "shameless" to describe him isn't excessive at all.
