Chapter 399
Chapter 399
Evening came, and Natalia arrived at our house.
The moment she walked through the door, her eyes were brimming with tears.
Levi had gotten off work early today. I'd mentioned wanting to discuss one of the projects with him, so he'd come home ahead of schedule.
We'd barely exchanged a few words when Indigo interrupted us.
"Mr. Morgan, Mrs. Blair Morgan, Mrs. Natalia Morgan is here. You should go see her right away—she seems really upset." Indigo called out urgently for us to come.
"Mom's here..."
I set down the documents in my hands and linked my arm through Levi's. "Come on, let's go see what's wrong."
Levi moved quickly. I followed behind while Indigo steadied me.
"Mrs. Blair Morgan, don't get yourself worked up. Whatever it is, Mr. Morgan will handle it."
Indigo's words only made my heart race faster.
In the living room, Natalia was already crying her eyes out.
Faye was trying to comfort her. "Natalia, just tell us what's wrong. You're going to give everyone a heart attack."
"Levi, go ask her what happened. Natalia won't stop crying, and she won't say a word."
Levi sat down beside Natalia. "Mom, what's going on?"
She threw her arms around Levi and sobbed. "Levi, I really can't control Cleo anymore. She wants to remarry Michael."
This was absolutely ridiculous. Hadn't Cleo said she would never remarry him? Hadn't she beaten the crap out of Michael?
How could she suddenly decide she wanted to remarry him? Wasn't it humiliating enough that Michael had brought that woman to the bidding conference?
After everything that had happened, Cleo was still under his spell?
"Your father's overseas. I haven't told him about this yet. If he finds out, he'll be furious. And I definitely can't let your grandparents know. What am I supposed to do..."
Natalia really couldn't say no to Cleo. After all, she'd raised that daughter with her own hands. No matter how angry she got, she couldn't bring herself to be harsh with her.
Cleo must have known this, which was why she'd only dared to mention remarrying to Natalia.
"Don't worry. I'll handle it."
Levi patted her shoulder reassuringly.
Faye sighed. "If you ask me, this is a lost cause. Unless we tie Cleo up, she's definitely going through with the remarriage."
"I really don't know what to do with her anymore."
"Natalia, Cleo's got a mind of her own. She's always been so concerned about saving face, and yet she's willing to remarry that piece of trash Michael."
That was exactly the problem. The whole family was disgusted by Michael, and Cleo was being completely pathetic by even entertaining the idea.
Faye sighed again. "I heard all about it. At Blair and Levi's bidding conference the other day, Michael actually showed up with his old mistress."
"Is that true? Blair, did that really happen?"
Natalia suddenly turned to me. I wasn't quite prepared for the question.
Everyone was looking at me. My face grew hot.
"Yes, it's true."
I spoke carefully. "Cleo's probably just temporarily confused. Why don't we try talking to her? Maybe she'll come to her senses."
"It won't work."
Levi understood Cleo well. Ever since she'd complained about him being heartless for dealing with Michael the way he had, he'd been pretty disillusioned with her too.
"Levi, you have to think of something. If your father comes back to handle this himself, he'll be extremely harsh with Cleo."
Faye put down her phone. "Natalia, you're really putting Levi in a difficult position. I think you should just let Nolan come back. Better to solve this problem once and for all."
Faye actually had a point. Someone needed to be ruthless enough to cut this toxic relationship off for good. If they didn't make Cleo give up completely, she'd just have the same idea again later.
"No, I can't do that. Nolan's not well. I wasn't planning to say anything, but you've backed me into a corner here..."
Natalia wiped away her tears. "After he went back earlier this year, he was diagnosed with severe gastritis. The doctor said there's a strong chance it could turn into cancer."
"Natalia, why didn't you say something sooner? When you find a problem, you need to address it right away. Medical technology is so advanced now—early detection, early treatment."
"The plan was for him to come back when Blair has the baby, see the child, and have the surgery done then."
Given the circumstances, we really couldn't let Nolan know about this. It would make him furious and damage his health.
Levi's eyes looked unfocused. It was the first time I'd ever seen him look so helpless.
I quietly walked over to them and gently patted Levi's shoulder. "Don't worry. We'll find a way."
Natalia grabbed my hand. "Blair, do you have a good solution?"
"I wouldn't exactly call it a 'good' solution, but Cleo will only give up on remarrying if she truly loses hope."
"What do you mean?"
"Make her give up completely."
I explained carefully. "The only reason she wants to remarry is because Michael must have lied to her. We just need to expose his lies."
"But we can't control what he thinks."
I hesitated for a few seconds before revealing a secret I'd been keeping.
"Actually, Michael and that mistress had a son together. He's been taking good care of the boy. By comparison, he's never paid a cent in child support for Hayden."
Natalia let out a bitter sigh. "My foolish daughter, wanting to be with that scumbag."
"If Cleo hadn't started talking about remarrying, I wasn't planning to tell anyone. After all, he's no longer connected to our family."
"Blair, do you have photos?"
"Yes, I've collected quite a bit of evidence. I actually told Cleo about it last time, but she didn't believe me."
Faye patted her chest confidently. "Leave this to me. I'll go find some even more damning evidence. I guarantee Cleo will give up on him."
"Please don't make things worse. Just a few days ago, you and that woman ended up at the police station. If it hadn't been for Blair..."
"Mom, don't worry. My evidence will be enough to wake my sister up."
I quickly cut off Natalia's words. I was afraid she'd mention that I'd gone to see Arabella.
Levi stared at me. He seemed to have sensed something.
Natalia wiped her tears. "Blair, I really didn't want to burden you with this. I just couldn't handle it alone anymore. You're about to give birth, and here I am troubling you both..."
"Mom, we're family. If you didn't come to us, that would upset me. When there's a problem, we face it together. There's always a solution."
"If only Cleo were half as sensible as you. All she does is cause trouble."
I sighed softly. "Actually, Cleo's a loyal person. He was someone she loved, after all. In her heart, she wants to give him another chance."
Faye rolled her eyes. "Cleo's a textbook case of someone who only thinks about romance."
"We women are almost all like that. No one finds it easy when emotions are involved. If I were in her shoes, I'd need a long time to process it too."
"But cheating is a zero-tolerance issue. Cleo's such a proud person—how does that man keep deceiving her?"
"Remarriage is not happening."
Levi spoke firmly. After reassuring Natalia, he walked out.
"Levi, are you going to see Cleo?"
Natalia called after him, but he didn't answer.
