Chapter 35
I only found out the haute couture dress Elliot bought for me was quite expensive after I sent the photos to Nola.
The loneliness of being in a foreign country made me uncomfortable. Elliot still had some things to handle, so I said goodbye to him and gave him money for the dress.
He wouldn't accept a transfer, so I gave him the cash Levi had given me. He didn't refuse that.
What a coincidence - Levi and Magnus were on the same flight as me.
The plane landed.
I picked up my suitcase from baggage claim and got ready to head home.
I hadn't told Nola my schedule, so I had to take a taxi.
"Levi, they're getting together. Come along - everyone hasn't seen each other in ages," Magnus invited Levi.
Maybe Levi had been spending all his time with Jessa lately, so he'd barely seen his friends.
I kept walking ahead on my own.
"No, I'm going home."
Magnus teased him, "Hey, it's because your daughter's waiting for you, right?"
We reached the parking area, and Magnus waved at me.
"Blair, where are you headed? Why don't you take my car?"
Back when I was Levi's secretary, they didn't dare say much to me. Now he had no reservations.
"No need, I called an Uber."
Magnus looked at Levi. "You too, Levi. Show some gentlemanly behavior. Even though she doesn't work for you anymore, you should give her a ride."
"Mind your own business."
Hearing Levi say that, Magnus took off right away. His driver had been waiting for a while.
After he left, Levi finally spoke.
"Cancel it. Take my car."
"No need."
I was used to being on my own, and we still had unfinished business. He'd just offended me a few days ago - did he think that was forgotten?
I saw my Uber arrive and waved.
Levi suddenly pulled hard, yanking me into his arms, then practically dragged me along, tucked under his arm.
"What are you doing? Let go of me!"
I struggled, but he was too strong. I couldn't break free at all.
The driver saw us and quickly opened the car door.
The moment the door closed, I was beyond speechless.
I had to cancel Uber, and just like that, Levi had forced me into his car.
In all these years, he'd never made me do anything. This kind of rough behavior was a first.
He closed his eyes and started resting.
Like nothing had happened.
I watched the trees passing backward outside the window, furious inside. I understood his actions less and less. The distinguished Mr. Morgan...
The whole way, I held my breath, praying we'd get home quickly.
When the car stopped, he suddenly woke up. Like he hadn't been sleeping at all - I had to hand it to this man.
Celestia was playing in the yard. Seeing us return, she ran over happily.
Both Levi and I got ready to hug her. She chose me without hesitation. I sneaked a look at Levi's expression - he didn't seem disappointed.
"Mommy, I missed you both so much. You went on a business trip together."
"No."
"Yes."
Levi and I answered at the same time - two different answers left Celestia a bit confused.
We clearly hadn't gone together. Why was Levi lying to the child? Saying we traveled together - even the dogs in the yard wouldn't believe that.
"Daddy, you didn't go on a date, did you?"
Who knows what was going on in Celestia's little head - she just came out with that.
Levi took the child from my arms. "What do you think?"
"I think you did, and you didn't take me. I wouldn't have bothered you. Hmph!"
Levi smiled indulgently. Magnus was right - he really did spoil his daughter. His love for Celestia over these years was truly beyond words.
"Mommy, did you bring me a present?"
"Celestia, we weren't..."
"Yes."
Levi cut me off. I'd wanted to explain, but he blocked my words.
"I'll show you later. Have you been good these past few days?" The two of them chatted happily while I followed behind them as we all went inside.
Indigo quietly walked beside me. "Mrs. Morgan, that day she called the master on the landline at home. It seemed like the conversation didn't go well."
"That can't be right?"
Levi couldn't have had a bad attitude with Jessa. Even if he was busy with work, he wouldn't be in a bad mood with her. He'd always been so good to her...
"Based on my experience, I think so."
Levi gave all his gentleness to Jessa. I just didn't think things would be bad between them.
"Let's eat first. Celestia must be starving."
I was hungry and tired, too lazy to think about how they were doing.
At the dinner table, Levi seemed to be in high spirits today.
He and Celestia were eating happily, the two of them competing to serve each other food, like it was a game.
Suddenly, Levi started eating the onions from every plate...
"Indigo, didn't I say to pick out the onions?"
We'd given advance notice before coming home that we'd eat at home. Indigo was always careful - she wouldn't forget Levi's habit of not eating onions.
"Mrs. Morgan, I was so busy today I got confused. I'm sorry..."
"It's fine."
Levi's attitude was mild, indicating he was okay with it.
"Daddy, I thought you couldn't eat onions."
Levi smiled slightly. "People change. Some people are very changeable."
That sounded sarcastic. Who was he implying?
Was he still talking about me going on the business trip with Elliot?
Actually, I'd thought about it too - given my position as Nola's secretary, I really wasn't suitable to attend such a high-end and private event.
Elliot's leadership position was very high. He'd invited Levi, and the other attendees were all high-status people. A secretary at such an occasion was indeed reaching a bit high.
If Nola had attended, it might have been more appropriate.
I could think of this, and Levi certainly could too. He kept not asking, probably waiting for me to bring it up myself.
But I still couldn't say I was the CEO of Heartstrings Jewelry.
I could only let him be sarcastic. After all, I didn't work under him anymore.
"Daddy, then you're changeable too."
Celestia suddenly came out with that, instantly making me laugh. Maybe I laughed a bit too freely - I made Indigo beside me laugh too.
Levi had never seen me laugh like this. His expression changed instantly.
"Daddy, you hate onions so much, but you ate them today. You changed so fast."
"Yeah, right."
Levi stubbornly swallowed down the last piece of onion. I watched his face turn ugly, like he was about to throw up, but he pretended to be calm.
He really performed "asking for trouble" to perfection.
"Sir, let me get you a glass of orange juice." Indigo really couldn't watch anymore.
"I'll have tea."
Levi wanted tea?
"The tea you gave Mrs. Morgan that day?"
"Yes."
I really couldn't understand the Levi in front of me. What exactly did he want...
