Chapter 24
I didn't sleep well last night, and I woke up this morning feeling terrible all over.
When I got up, I found that Levi had already left for work. The house was unusually quiet. When Indigo saw me come downstairs, she made me a cup of coffee.
"Mrs. Morgan, she's finally gone."
"I've gotten used to it these past few days. It doesn't make much difference."
Indigo smiled, "Mrs. Morgan, you're really patient. Anyone else would have blown up by now."
"It's all in the past."
I forced myself to move on from all this. Jessa's departure at least let me breathe easier and feel less annoyed. At least I wouldn't have to watch her flirt with Levi right in front of me anymore.
"Mrs. Morgan, I'll go prepare lunch."
"No rush, I'm not hungry."
I remembered there was something at the company today. I had no energy at all right now, and since it was almost noon, I had to ask Nola to handle it again.
I called her on video.
Unfortunately, before we could even get to business, Jessa barged into her office.
"Oh, so you're the CEO of Heartstrings Jewelry."
Nola's face turned sour the moment she saw Jessa. If I hadn't stopped her before, they probably would have had several fights already.
"Veda, why are you letting just anyone in here?"
Nola didn't care what circles Jessa moved in. She had asked for my opinion before, and there was no way we were going to discuss any collaboration.
"Ms. Skye, I think there's been some misunderstanding between us. My agent probably didn't express my intentions well. I really want to work with your company."
On the screen, I watched Jessa change her tune, which was pretty ridiculous.
"We've made our position very clear. Don't you understand?"
Nola stood up and pointed at the door. "I won't see you out."
The secretary stood there awkwardly, probably thinking to herself that Heartstrings Jewelry must be doing well now, turning down such a big opportunity to promote through Jessa without hesitation.
"If Xanthe hadn't shown me that collection, I could easily work with another company." Jessa changed her attitude again.
Nola was confused. "Xanthe?"
"Yeah, my friend. She used to be a designer here."
I was surprised to learn that the designer I had hired on the spot was actually friends with Jessa.
At that time, Nola was focused on developing overseas markets, so Xanthe probably never met her. Otherwise, Jessa wouldn't have been surprised that Nola was the CEO of Heartstrings Jewelry.
"I don't care what your relationship is. The copyright for this collection belongs to our company, and we're not planning to develop it right now."
Jessa took a card out of her bag. "I'll double the investment, and I also want Xanthe to be in charge of this project."
"It's not about the money."
Nola pushed the card back. "I'm very busy. Don't waste my time. This is not up for discussion."
"Not taking money when it's offered? Heartstrings Jewelry is pretty interesting."
"I'm about to start a national tour. Everyone will definitely be interested in the jewelry I wear. I'll give you free publicity. Are you sure you won't reconsider?"
Jessa thought her offer was very tempting.
Watching her act so high and mighty made me angry. Was she playing dumb? She'd been rejected multiple times already, and very firmly, too.
Nola suddenly laughed. "Jessa, I think you're pretty funny. There are so many brands willing to sponsor this kind of jewelry. We're just a small company. Stop pushing yourself on us."
"Don't be so ungrateful."
"Oh, you should have said that earlier. You made me play along with your act."
Veda kept her head down, seeing that a fight was about to break out.
On one side was a popular celebrity, on the other was her CEO boss. She was stuck in the middle, not knowing whether to leave or stay.
"Don't mix business with personal matters. I came here personally to discuss this with you as a favor."
I really thought Jessa had something wrong with her brain, still running her mouth after being rejected.
"Mixing business with personal matters?"
Nola put her hand on her hip. "You got that right. I've been wanting to tell you off for a while now. You're stealing my best friend's husband. Just because others don't know doesn't mean I don't!"
What kind of gossip was this?
Veda perked up her ears, but Nola noticed and told her to leave.
"I didn't steal him."
"Jessa, stop lying to me. I'm warning you, stay away from Blair, or you'll regret it!"
Nola was tough, wasting her breath on someone like Jessa for my sake.
"Blair is just stupid!"
Jessa sneered. "Levi doesn't even like her. We were perfect for each other back then. If she hadn't suddenly appeared with that arranged marriage from Mr. Aiden Morgan, we would have been together long ago."
"Just shut up."
Nola was so worked up seeing Jessa that she forgot she was still on video call with me.
"Just because Blair won't argue with you doesn't mean I'll put up with you. Get out now, don't dirty my office!"
Jessa clenched her fists. "Nola, don't be so cocky. I came here sincerely to discuss a collaboration. You shouldn't bite the hand that feeds you."
"What kind of person are you?"
Nola was about to lose it. She was really annoyed that Jessa came to the company specifically to bother her about this.
"I'm telling you, if you keep insulting me, I'll have someone write an article right now saying that Heartstrings Jewelry has terrible manners and that investors should stay away."
These dirty tricks came out just like that. Jessa must have short-circuited, laying it all out there, which was both laughable and pathetic.
"I'm waiting for you. Have your team spread lies right now. We've been minding our own business. If you come after me, I'm not afraid."
Jessa suddenly changed the subject. "What did Blair give you to make you protect her like this? It's ridiculous. You don't care about the Morgan Group's investment?"
"Get out!"
Nola completely lost her patience. "Do you want the security guards to throw you out, or should I do it myself?"
"Don't threaten me!"
Jessa puffed out her chest. "This is a society ruled by law. Nola, you'd better apologize to me, or you won't be able to handle the consequences!"
"Let's see who has to face the consequences!"
Nola lunged forward and grabbed her arm. "Jessa, you have no shame. You're destroying Blair's family. How dare you talk to me about collaboration? Get out if you know what's good for you!"
Jessa broke free and quickly grabbed Nola's hair. "Nola, in broad daylight, you attacked me first. I'm going to sue you!"
The two of them started fighting. I was on the phone, not knowing what to do. I called out a couple of times, but no one responded.
Gradually, they moved toward the window, and I couldn't see them anymore. I could only hear Nola going off, and Jessa seemed to be screaming in pain.
I quickly hung up the phone. If this continued, Nola would definitely make the news. Jessa's PR team would definitely twist the facts, which would be bad for both Nola and the company.
I couldn't just watch this happen. I didn't even have time to put on a coat before rushing out. Just as I got in the car, Nola sent me a message.
"Blair, I'm in trouble. That awful Jessa is going to sue me now..."
I really hoped Nola wasn't hurt. Everything else could be dealt with.
