Chapter 189

Chapter 189

Exhausted both physically and mentally, I went back to my room and took a nap.

I specifically told Levi not to disturb me under any circumstances.

In the past, I was always busy taking care of things for him, but now he started taking care of things for me.

I had some materials that needed organizing, which would serve as reference data when I returned to work.

Levi said he would organize them and let me rest well.

I didn't really want him involved in my work, but he said it was his way of making amends, and he promised to handle things with Ava properly.

He had an agreement with Ava's father to try his best to convince Ava to return home for an arranged marriage.

Actually, Levi didn't want to interfere in other people's private affairs. It was just a temporary measure to get that batch of goods.

So Ava wasn't entirely wrong. At least Levi's goal was singular - to get the quality raw materials from her family's supply.

When I woke up, Indigo had already prepared the meal.

As dusk approached, this was my first meal of the day.

Levi poured some red wine, and I put a piece of meat on his plate.

"Thank you for your great help, Mr. Morgan. You got to experience what it's like being a secretary."

I ate while secretly smiling, feeling a sense of "revenge." I used to do all those trivial things for him.

"Thank you for giving me this opportunity, Ms. Ember."

Levi raised his glass and took a small sip.

"No need to thank me. You worked hard, eat more."

He put down his glass. "You slept for three or four hours, you worked hard too."

Was he being sarcastic? When did Levi learn this trick, or was he just joking around to lighten the mood?

I kept my head down and focused on eating, saying nothing more.

After a while, he served me a bowl of soup.

"Just eating the dishes?"

"No."

I took the soup and gulped down more than half the bowl to hide my awkwardness.

Our current situation was quite funny. Sometimes I even wanted to laugh. With Levi changing so much, it was really hard to adapt.

He would never have served me food before. I used to prepare everything for him, and whether he ate or not depended entirely on his mood.

"Has Nola contacted you?"

Was he trying to make small talk with me?

I hadn't checked my phone since waking up. I was too hungry, so I came straight to eat. My phone was still in the living room, probably left there when I went to get water.

"I haven't checked my phone."

Levi put down his utensils and wiped his mouth with a napkin.

"John contacted me, wanting to invite us to his place."

"I'm fine with it, depends on what you want."

With a few days before work, rather than being cooped up at home with him, it would be better to get together with everyone. I could have some private talks with Nola and hear her gossip.

"Then we'll wait for them to arrange it."

"Okay."

Levi saw me put down my bowl and chopsticks and asked, "Done eating?"

I blinked. I was really confused. Was this still the aloof Levi I knew?

"Yeah."

I looked at him, staring blankly.

Levi stood up. "Come on, I'll take you somewhere."

I followed behind him. I was very familiar with every part of the house, though after starting work, I wasn't as busy around the entire house as before.

I didn't know which part of the house was worth his taking me to see, all mysterious.

When he brought me to my secret hideout, I was speechless.

This was my territory, and I knew it best. Bringing me here - did he want to see what interesting things I had collected?

Looking back, I remembered the last time I was drunk here, I seemed to have burned something, too.

Thinking about it, I really hadn't been here in a long time.

When he opened the door, the whole room sparkled with starlight.

He had used all the star-series jewelry we had stocked before to decorate this place. I never imagined this place could be so dazzling. I had initially fixed up this place just to have a space to be alone.

He had completely renovated it, arranging everything inside very neatly. Compared to my rough secret room, this was more like a garden sanctuary.

There were roses I loved, and stars I loved.

"You can use it as your office."

Levi sat down lazily in a chair nearby.

"It's too exquisite and very expensive."

The decorations here were literally made with real gold and silver. The things I designed were meant to make a profit, but he went and bought so many.

Making money from him felt pointless...

"If you like it, it's worth it."

"But it doesn't need to be this lavish."

Levi narrowed his eyes. "From now on, you decide how to decorate the house."

"Giving me a new office to encourage me to work hard, Mr. Morgan, thank you for your kind gesture. Next time, please ask for my opinion before making decisions, or I wouldn't be so tired."

"Your health is most important. I'm just giving you a space that belongs to you."

I was just joking. I knew he didn't want me to work. Now that I was pregnant, my condition would definitely get worse and worse.

I would gradually feel overwhelmed. Not to mention work performance, I was worried about sleep in late pregnancy. I heard that pregnant women with twins couldn't even lie down to sleep in late pregnancy.

Also, I had a natural birth with Celestia, but I was afraid I wouldn't be able to have a natural birth with twins. Then it would be a C-section, which crudely speaking, means cutting open the belly.

I wasn't afraid of leaving a scar. I was afraid I wouldn't make it through that ordeal.

Thinking about it, I couldn't help but shiver.

"Still, thank you."

I thanked him for doing all this for me. I saw how good he was to me. Subtle changes were happening between us.

But the better he was to me, the more sensitive I became, and sometimes I even felt unworthy.

Maybe it was because I had no family left. I was easily happy, but also easily felt inferior.

Levi didn't say anything. I didn't know if my thanks displeased him, but I genuinely thanked him. Having such a beautiful space made me feel very happy.

I walked to the cabinet, opened a drawer, and took out a piece of star paper.

I found a pen, drew a smiley face on it, then signed my name. I folded it into a star.

I slowly walked up to Levi and opened my hand. "This is for you."

Levi's expression immediately brightened. He clutched the star tightly in his palm, like a precious treasure.

"The first time we met should have been when we were kids. I think you should know by now - the stars in the ship model were also folded by me."

"Yeah."

"When did you realize I was Jessa Greer from back then?"

Levi let out a breath. "When Celestia folded stars for the first time."

"At the summer camp abroad?"

"Yeah."

Since he suspected it back then, why did he still let Jessa come back to the country with us?

"So you actually had feelings for her, right? It had nothing to do with the stars."

Levi said firmly, "No."

I didn't have the courage to ask further. I guessed that when he found out I was Jessa, it was hard for him to easily erase all those years of being with Jessa.

He wasn't a cold-blooded person. His initial enthusiasm in helping me revealed his kind nature.

Facing the truth, his hesitation was understandable.
