Chapter 152
I was distracted at work, my mind constantly drifting to my daughter.
I hadn't seen Celestia for several days, and I wondered if she missed me.
The other day Ava said she was willing to accept Celestia and be her stepmother. Hearing that made my heart race with anxiety. I couldn't bear the thought of my daughter calling someone else mom.
Levi was due back any day now, but until he actually returned, I wouldn't be able to relax.
I grabbed the car keys from my desk and decided to go back to the Morgan mansion.
The yard at the Morgan mansion was already decorated. Aiden was a traditional man who put up all the traditional decorations every year.
I walked through the pavilion corridor and heard voices in his study. The window showed the shadows of two people.
Visiting Aiden was the first thing I needed to do. I walked to the study door and asked softly, "Grandpa, may I come in?"
"Blair's here?"
Aiden paused, "Come on in."
I pushed open the door and saw Joseph. When he saw me, the corners of his mouth turned up involuntarily.
"Grandpa, are you writing New Year scrolls?"
Aiden took off his glasses and rubbed his eyes. "Getting old, not much use anymore."
"Your calligraphy is still so strong and powerful," Joseph praised Aiden.
I smiled. "Age-wise, you are indeed older than us, but when it comes to calligraphy, we can't even come close."
"You're such a sweet talker, not like your grandma who's always complaining about me."
"Did you two have another argument?"
Aiden waved his hand. "Forget it, forget it. Just small stuff. A man should be a gentleman."
Joseph hadn't expected me to come here. He wanted to make small talk with me but didn't dare say too much in front of Grandpa.
"Blair, you came to..."
Aiden probably guessed I came to see Celestia, and suddenly stopped asking. Joseph's real purpose for coming today wasn't to visit Aiden either - nine times out of ten, he came to ask about me.
Normally, Finn should have been the one to come, but the fact that he came himself showed he had gathered his courage.
"I just came to see you."
"Joseph is your Uncle Finn's nephew. He's interested in you and came to the house to ask my opinion."
Aiden didn't hide anything at all, laying out Joseph's purpose directly.
Joseph's face turned red with embarrassment, not expecting Aiden to be so straightforward.
"Oh, I met him at Uncle Finn's house the other day."
I gave Grandpa a knowing look, and Aiden understood immediately.
"Blair, you're an adult now, almost thirty. There are some decisions I can't make for you, especially about your life's major events. I completely respect your personal choice."
Aiden passed the ball back to me. I knew my chance had come.
If I rejected him in front of Aiden, he probably wouldn't bother me again.
"Grandpa, I already told him how I felt. I don't think we're right for each other."
Joseph immediately said with a red face, "Grandpa, good things take time. If Blair thinks we're not right for each other, I'll just wait."
He actually said he'd wait for me...
Aiden gave me a meaningful look. He must have regretted listening to me back then and not making my relationship with Levi public. Otherwise, he wouldn't have to hide it with me now.
"I don't interfere in you young people's business. As long as Blair is happy."
Aiden finished writing the last character with a flourish and put down his brush.
"Grandpa, I'm so lucky. The first time my new home has New Year scrolls, I get your calligraphy."
I could tell Joseph really liked Grandpa's writing, without any hint of flattery.
"Blair, I'll write you a set another day."
I smiled. "Grandpa, we're family. I don't need my own New Year scrolls. I want to always come to your house."
"Haha, you silly girl."
Joseph knew it wasn't appropriate to stay longer and took his leave.
I didn't walk him out out of politeness. I didn't want to give him any hope.
I followed Aiden to the living room. He and Rhea were still in a cold war. Even when she saw me arrive, Rhea angrily went back to her room.
Are old people really this cute?
I couldn't help but think about when Levi and I would be old. Would we grow old together?
"Blair, after the holidays, let Levi make your relationship public. Otherwise, having similar situations all the time is too troublesome, and it makes the Morgan family look dishonest."
I've imagined countless times Levi publicly announcing I'm his wife, but in six years he's never had any such intention. And soon it'll be the seventh year - they say the seven-year itch...
"Let's take it one step at a time."
I had no confidence. This was Levi's decision to make. I was just following his arrangements.
"You're too hard on yourself, always thinking of others."
"Grandpa, where's Celestia? Is she not here?"
"Her other grandparents picked her up. After all, they're her generation. She's not as close to me anymore."
I poured him a cup of tea. "Grandpa, she's still young. Kids' preferences always change. You should make up with Grandma. Don't be angry with each other. You're life partners - you two should be closest."
Aiden chuckled. "You're teaching me a lesson again. I really am getting old, can't keep up."
"At dinner, you should go call Grandma yourself."
"You should eat with us too."
I smiled. "I won't eat here. Faye and her friend are at home."
"Faye is here."
"Huh?"
"She came almost at the same time as Joseph. They even talked for a bit."
Faye suddenly came out of the side room. "Blair, are you talking about me?"
I really underestimated young people's enthusiasm. Faye might have followed Joseph here.
"Grandpa, we'll head back now. It's not good to leave her friend alone at home."
Aiden waved his hand. "Go on, or you'll see me make a fool of myself."
He was probably going to make up with Rhea and didn't want us to see him embarrassed.
We got back in the car. Faye's expression wasn't good. I had noticed earlier - she seemed unhappy to see me.
"Faye, call and ask if Sophia got home. If she hasn't gone back yet, we can pick her up."
"Blair, he's pursuing you, isn't he?"
I glanced at her, then turned back to focus on driving.
"Yeah, but I already have your brother. I won't be with him."
Faye pouted. "Blair, can you please not compete with me for him?"
My heart instantly ached. What was Faye thinking? How could I possibly compete with her for Joseph? I had no interest in him at all. My heart was completely filled with Levi.
She knew how much I cared about Levi. Her saying this made me incredibly angry.
"Blair, I fell for him at first sight. Anyway, you can't like him."
Faye's words really shattered my worldview. Didn't she know my status? How could I be with Joseph...
"Faye, you're still young. He's so much older than you. Relationships aren't a game..."
"Blair, don't tell me what to do. Just don't compete with me."
At that moment, I was so hurt.
