Chapter 11
I had a very long dream.
In the dream, I saw my mom. I told her I'd been unhappy these past few years, and that I wanted to come find her. She hugged me warmly, stroked my head, then suddenly pushed me away...
I opened my eyes, and my mother's words "live well" were still echoing in my ears.
Celestia was shaking my arm anxiously, "Mom, you're finally awake. You scared me to death."
My mind kept replaying everything. I remembered - Jessa had pushed me like crazy, the guests at the banquet were screaming, and my ears were ringing, then I passed out.
"Don't worry, Mom's okay."
I tried to move. My foot hurt badly, and my legs, my back - it felt like I'd been beaten up. Every movement hurt.
Celestia's eyes were red from crying, "Mom, the doctor said you broke two ribs. They operated on you for a really long time."
I actually broke bones. I didn't expect Jessa to be this vicious. Now that she's grown up, she wants me dead!
"Don't worry, Celestia, I'll be fine in a while. I'm strong, it'll be quick." I comforted her, not wanting her to be upset.
"Fine? You're badly hurt. It'll take at least half a year to recover." Nola said angrily from the side.
Half a year...
I closed my eyes. I couldn't imagine what crazy thing Jessa would do next since she failed to kill me this time.
James came in carrying a fruit basket. "Mr. Morgan asked me to bring this to you. He wishes you a speedy recovery."
"Who cares about these stupid fruits!" Nola said indignantly.
I grabbed her hand, signaling her to stop; otherwise, news of my relationship with Levi would spread throughout the company.
"I appreciate Mr. Morgan for his concern. Please pass that along for me."
James nodded, "Your colleagues also asked me to bring..."
"No need."
I declined my colleagues' kindness. I was planning to resign anyway, so the fewer connections the better.
"Okay, I'll head back to the office then."
After he left, Nola shut the door tightly.
"I really don't get it. What kind of person is Levi? When that one next door got a tiny scratch, he stayed by her side constantly. But you're like this, and he just sends a fruit basket? Who's he trying to fool!"
Nola continued, "Girl, I really want to go over there and tear into her. Why did she go crazy and drag you down with her?"
I don't want anything to do with her either. She's like a plague following me around. I'm already planning to leave Levi, but she keeps targeting me.
"I'll just leave."
I blurted it out in frustration, forgetting Celestia was still there. She immediately broke down crying.
"Mom, where are you going? Are you leaving Dad? Are you leaving me?"
I tried to sit up, but the pain made it impossible to move. Seeing this, Nola pulled Celestia into her arms to comfort her.
"Mom, are you talking about Auntie Jessa?"
"Auntie Jessa got hurt, too. Did you guys have a fight?"
"Mom, are you mad at me? Please don't leave us..."
Celestia cried even harder, making me more panicked.
She looked at me pitifully, "Mom, are you upset that Celestia is too close to Auntie Jessa? If you don't leave me, I promise I won't see her anymore."
She clearly liked Jessa so much, but she cared about me more.
At that moment, my tears broke free.
My heart softened immediately. How could I bear to leave her? But Levi and I really couldn't go on anymore.
At the dinner, he appeared publicly with Jessa, and now he's with Jessa again...
"Don't worry, Celestia, Mom will never leave you."
My daughter lay on my arm, sobbing, making me feel guilty. If I hadn't let it slip, she wouldn't be so sad.
Adult problems shouldn't involve children.
"Mom, let's pinky promise."
Celestia seriously held my finger. I forced a smile.
Just as things calmed down, Levi surprisingly showed up.
Nola was angry at him, so she left first.
"Dad, is Auntie Jessa okay?"
Celestia asked about Jessa while watching my expression.
"She's okay."
Levi looked at my IV drip, but didn't ask about me.
"Can I go see her?"
I nodded helplessly, "Go ahead."
"Mom, I'll come back to keep you company soon."
"The driver will pick you up to go home in a bit."
Levi wanted our daughter to go home first, not let her stay with me. Of course, I also hoped she'd spend less time at the hospital.
"Dad, I want to stay with Mom." Celestia acted cute.
"Go home first."
Levi didn't indulge her. He probably didn't want Celestia to see me looking so miserable.
Only the two of us were left in the hospital room.
This was the longest time we'd spent together recently.
He said nothing, and I didn't move.
Maybe he was waiting for me to speak first, but I had nothing to say.
Both people were injured, but I, Mrs. Morgan, was clearly in worse shape.
I'm not talking about the injuries, but about Levi's different treatment.
"Someone will take care of things at home. Just focus on recovering."
Levi finally spoke first.
I blinked but didn't respond.
"I should..."
"Is she badly hurt?" I couldn't help asking.
Levi's expression darkened, "The doctor said they need to observe her."
"Really? Her injury probably healed before she even got to the hospital, right?"
Levi was surprised by my sarcasm and displeased.
"You two were fighting, and you were the one who..."
"I started it?"
I knew Jessa too well. She must have put on another performance in front of Levi. She only had superficial wounds; she didn't pass out or need surgery, so of course, she had the chance to accuse me first.
When you love someone, you're biased. Levi would believe her without hesitation, and no matter how I changed, I couldn't change his fixed impression of me.
"Watch yourself."
He left after those four words, leaving me completely stunned.
He was the one who didn't get the facts straight. He and Jessa were the ones hurting me, so why was he blaming me?
Tears fell. I was caught in a dilemma again.
On one side was my daughter, whom I hoped could stay away from Jessa for my sake. On the other side was my husband, who didn't care about my feelings and freely got close to my enemy. What should I choose?
My divorce plan would have to be postponed because of this injury...
Jessa's aggressive moves worried me. I always thought that as long as I didn't touch those old matters, they wouldn't hurt me again.
I was supposed to be Jessa. She stole my dad and shamelessly took my name.
After my mother took me away, I took her last name, and Blair was the new name she gave me.
She had already become the young lady of the Greer family, and now she wanted to take my position as Mrs. Morgan.
If I weren't so desperate to end this messy life, I really wouldn't want to let her have Levi so easily.
But I hate getting tangled up with people. Since Levi doesn't love me, separation was bound to happen sooner or later.
"My daughter, are you okay? Mom's here..."
A harsh voice came from outside the door. I knew that voice - the one that hurt my mother. It was her coming to see Jessa, that evil woman!
