Chapter 8 To Find Answers
~Haven.
Ever since the moment I found out that Walter was completely aware of the woman he'd slept with, my heart wouldn't stop racin
I had questions… ones I couldn't find answers to and it was starting to feel like the curiosity was pulling me apart
I pressed my phone against my face, thirsty for answer
“Why?” I aske
Walter's side of the phone remained silen
My heart throbbe
For some reasons, my heart awaited certain words
I wanted him to say it. I wanted Walter to declare that he loved me. That he had always wanted me and I was all he needed
I needed to prove dad wrong in my mind. I was desperate to prove that Walter loved me.. that he could have actually chosen me
But that wall of expectations that I'd built came down to the ground the moment responde
“You're being childish,” he said. His voice? Emotionles
And just like that, whatever warmth I’d been clinging to vanishe
My voice brok
“W-what?” I asked, hoping those words didn't mean what they look like they did
A smile escaped his lips. For some reason, his voice still made my heart race. “I thought you'd called me for something better. Turned out you decided to slack on something else.” He sai
“What…. What else could I have possibly asked for
And again, he laughed. This time, he sounded more intentional, precise. “Well, it just turns out since last night, I haven't been able to get you off my min
I thought you felt the same way but I don't think so ....
“I ….” I stuttere
I wanted to tell him. That I wanted more. That I wanted him…but I couldn't
What would I sound like? A slut? My words seized
He sighed. “I'm not in for any long talk, Haven. If you want yourself on my bed one more time, screaming my name like you did the night before? You know where to find me, don't you?” He asked. “You were such a good girl last time pretending to be Hannah. How about we spice things up, now that we ‘both’ know it's you
Walter ended the call before I could spea
I stood, right there, frozen. My hands were still pressed against my cheeks, my body had refused to move
My eyes caught my reflection on the mirro
I looked at “me.
It felt unreal, like it wasn't true
Walter, the man I'd been dying to love, finally wanted me
I cleared my throat, picking up my jacket as I walked out of the house. Even though I'd told myself “I'm only going to him to find answers. To know if he still loved me
I still checked my dress twice to make sure it was perfect
I tossed my jacket aside ….. I no longer needed it
My steps quickened as I walked into Walter's mansion
The familiar smell of his cologne ran through my nose … I felt a chill crawl all over my body
My pace only increased as I walked in. Like he'd held an important part of my life I needed to urgently collect
Maybe, he di
“Why the rush?” Walter asked, grabbing my hand from behind as he appeared from… God knows wher
I gaspe
I slowly raised my head, my eyes met his. This time, it wasn't the soft, warm gaze I'd seen earlier
He was needy….like he'd rip off my clothes and place me on the table the next second
I hated that I wanted him t
He'd barely touched me….but I was dripping….wet
He tucked my hair behind my ears, a smile parting his dangerous looking lips. “You can't hide it. I can tell. You want me to
I'd barely had the time to catch my breath when his lips slammed into mine, hungrily kissing me as his hands trailed my body
With one hand, he lifted my dress, sliding his fingers into my warmth without hesitatio
A moan escaped my mouth
And that was all I needed…. To forget the “answers” I'd come for. And to forget that the man I'd slept with was still my sister's husban
….
That evening, I laid on Walter's chest, comfortabl
He was fast asleep
I stood up gently, turning to face him…. There it was, that face I couldn't say no too
But it still felt like he was hiding something, something he hadn't told me or anyone
I sighe
I still needed to know…. if truly he loved me and was only forced to marry Hannah just like I was forced to stay away
I reached out for his face, then his phone rang
His eyes opened like he'd been waiting for that cal
I flinched before looking away
He picked up the phone and I looked over his hand
It was dad
My heart hit my ches
A brutal reminder of his relationship with Hannah
“Hello, father,” he said, a smile slipping through his fac
“I'll be right there. Tell Hannah I love her,” he adde
Walter got up without saying anything to me. Not a word, not a glanc
The way he said he loved Hannah stuck to my head
It was effortless ... .way too calm to be fake
It felt strang
I could not read Walter
I couldn't tell if he truly loved her or he loved…. Me
Walter slid back into his clothes without saying anything to me still. He left, leaving on the bed like furnitur
Minutes after, I made my way out of the house, telling myself he only acted that way because he was heartbroken ... .or maybe pressured by my famil
Few minutes after Walter left, dad texted. He said Hannah needed me at the hospita
Maybe Walter wasn't able to make it
I was sure Father wouldn't want me in the same room with Walter
I walked into the hospital ward running by hand through my hair. The thought of Walter effortlessly flooded my hea
Only for me to walk into the ward and find him staring back at me
He immediately looked away. Like he shouldn't be caught staring at m
I cleared my throat. It wasn't his fault. He didn't mind yet
“Walter,” Hannah's voice suddenly pierced the silenc
“Who's lipstick is this?” She asked, pointing at the faint stain on Walter's collar
My heart hit my ches
“Isn't this…..Haven?” She asked, her voice tremblin
