Chapter 35 Mason.
~Walter.
Sigh.
I hated to see how sad Haven was. And what I hated more was the fact that there was nothing I could do about it.
I wished I'd never married Hannah in the first place….. that I could freely be with Haven.
But even with all of these impossible wishes and my love for Haven, I still couldn't get over that lingering voice in my head that kept reminding me; “that child may not be yours.”
But Harrington told me all that was left to know. And sincerely, I doubt that Haven would also lie to me. Or maybe she would…..
Fuck.
It would be unfair doubting her, wouldn't it?
I emptied the bottle of water I held and tossed the bottle in the trash can.
Haven must have finished wearing the dress– I thought, heading back into the complex when my eyes caught the black sedan packed a few steps away from me.
“Hannah's car?” I whispered. My eyes widened and as I moved closer, my heart tumped.
“Hannah Sutherland” sat perfectly on the plate.
I sprinted back into the complex, hoping with everything inside of me that Hannah hadn't crossed paths with Haven.
It'd ruin everything. ….. the lie that she was heading to Harrington's place. How would she explain that?
Panting, I spotted the dressing room from a distance. Hannah stood there at the entrance with Mrs. Sutherland holding up her dresses.
I looked around and Haven wasn't anywhere in sight. She must be in the dressing room, the same one Hannah was trying to get into.
In not time, I was covered in sweat. My head went blank.
I didn't know how, but I knew I needed to stop them from going into that room. Hannah's hand caught the curtain, and I felt my heart drop into my chest.
“Hannah!” I immediately called, my voice at it's loudest.
Hannah flinched, she immediately turned….Mrs. Sutherland stared to.
The curtains dropped and I caught a glimpse of Haven.
“Hannah,” I called again rushing towards her. I immediately pulled her into a hug and Mrs. Sutherland flashed a smile. But soon, the smile dropped. “I thought you said you were headed to work,” she started.
Hannah nodded. “You said it was important work.”
“I….” I smiled. “I lied. I wanted to surprise you with a dress for the party and I didn't want you to know. But it turns out Mrs. Sutherland beat me to it and my dress wouldn't matter anymore,” I answered.
Hannah smiled and Mrs. Sutherland gave me a pat on the shoulder. “you see, Hannah. I told you. Walte loves you.”
No I don't.
I smiled…nervously.
Haven was still in that room.
“I should go in and try on the dress….”
“No!” I immediately countered.
“And why?” Mrs. Sutherland quarried.
“Mr. Blake…he's right. I do not think Mrs. Blake should go into that room. I checked now and it doesn't seem conducive enough for her, giving her condition. She should try out the dresses at home instead. We'd call a stylist if there'll be need for adjustments,” Mason supported.
Hannah immediately agreed. And Mrs. Sutherland wouldn't say no to Hannah.
“We should all head back together,” Hannah whispered.
“Why don't we go back together, Mrs. Blake. I'm sure Mr. Blake had to leave work to get you this dress. We shouldn't bother him,” and again, Hannah nodded. She listened to Mason without questioning him….at all. She walked away without saying anything else to me… Mason stared at me for a while before leaving with them. “We should talk,” he mouthed.
Wait….does he …..
I rushed into the dressing room and found Haven startled. She stood there in that black dress looking like a dream come true. I couldn't let myself fantasize much. I had to think of why Mason was…helping. But I didn't want to believe he was.
“Did Mason see you?” I asked.
Haven nodded. “Our eyes met when I hid in here. I didn't expect that he'd help. He's been acting strange lately.”
“Be careful around him. He probably wants something,” I warned. I knew Mason. He was nothing but a snake.
Haven nodded.
“The dress. It looks nice, doesn't it?” She nervously asked.
A smile flashed across my face. “It looks perfect,” I pulled Haven in and hugged her. I doubt that I'd be able to pull myself at that party with you looking like this….”
Haven didn't let me finish. She pulled me in for a kiss and chuckled after. “I'll do anything to make sure you're mine,” she whispered.
“I'll be right back,” I said before sprinting out. I rushed out and found Mason standing next to my car. “Where's Hannah?” I asked.
“They left. I told them I needed to help you with somethings,” Mason answered. Calm as usual and I hated it.
“What do you want?” I asked, folding my arms.
“My manners,” he smiled. “Good morning, Mr. Blake.”
“Keep your greetings to yourself,” I sneered.
Mason took a deep breath. “Mr. Blake, there's is something that I must tell you. We cannot talk about it here, but I need to talk to you about. Your life and Miss. Haven's lays on it. I've been trying to speak with her about it but I haven't found a way to go about it….”
I couldn't help but laugh. “Last night, you were being nice to Haven. Today you suddenly helped in taming my wife when she almost caught Haven. Listen, I do not care about whatever is going on between you and Hannah. But if you think those little games your played would trick me into believing that you have anything to say then you must have gotten it all wrong, Mason!”
“But, Mr. Blake I…..” for the first time, I saw fear in Mason's eyes and I forced myself into believing it was all an act.
“Stay away from Haven and I, Mason. If you want money, let me know,” I said before turning to leave.
Mason caught my hand- firm and our eyes met.
“Don't say I didn't warn you. Have a nice day, Mr. Blake.”
