Chapter 29 And Walter said.

Chapter 29 And Walter said.
~Haven.

My heart thumped.
Harrington's hands trembled as he held the test results in his hands.

He raised his head before throwing it at me.
Harrington walked towards the door. Without turning to look me, he spoke. “I trusted you,” he started. “I knew you were sleeping with your sister's husband but not once did I ever judge you for that. I thought giving you a chance to change was what you needed….but it turns out people don't actually change, do they?”

“Harrington…” I called.
I still didn't know what to….think of.
Worry? Fear?......

Harrington's words cut through me like a blade.
“I wasn't lying,” was all I could say.

And neither was Walter.
Those times when he told me he wasn't sure whether he used a condom, it was true.
The fear in his eyes, the worry in his voice, the sincerity in his heart when he said he truly loved me, they were all true but I'd failed to recognize them.

My heart ached.
Walter truly loved me– but I made him feel stupid because of how emotionally crippled I'd become.
And worse? He was my sister's husband and I was carrying his child.

“I should have never trusted you.”
Harrington left me behind.
Everything he claimed to feel vanished because of the child I carried.

I picked the test results and every word I read haunted me.
I sat at the edge of the bed.
Tears streamed down my face.

I wasn't ready to raise a child.
I thought I was but I wasn't. Not for Walter.
It came with consequences that were far beyond what I could handle.

Shame, regret, my child being called a bastard….

I kept asking myself what would happen. If Hannah found out, if dad found out. If everyone found out.
I'd be the adulterous woman who slept with her sister's husband and Hannah? She'd be the good one– as usual.

“Miss Haven,” a man said as he walked in.
Doctor Chris.
A smile hung over his face. “Congratulations,” he started. “Your boyfriend accted so surprised when we told him. He barely said anything. He must have been so shocked but…where is he?” He asked.

I forced a smile. “he left,” I answered. “Work,” I added.
There was no way I could tell him.
I was pregnant for Walter.

“Should I go ahead and tell Mr. Sutherland about it? He must be so thrilled that he's having a grandchild soon. Given that Hannah isn't pregnant you,” he said.

“No!” I screamed. I rushed towards him, panting. “Hum…” I swallowed. Hard. “You don't….you don't have to do that. It'd be best if I let everyone know about it myself,” I said.
“I just…. I just feel like it'll be better that way so can you ….can you do me a favor and not tell anyone about it?”

Doctor Chris's smile flickered. Her brows curved with confusion but he masked it almost immediately. “If you say so, Miss. Haven. Congratulations once again.” He bowed. “You are free to leave now if you want to. There are a few medications for you to pick up at the pharmacy.
Your father already cleared the bills.”

My …. My father?
“Dad? He knows I'm here?” I asked, eyes widened. Panick crawled through my skin.

“Oh yes,” doctor Chris nodded. “Doctor Sheldon is not in the country currently so Mrs. Blake was brought here for treatment. But put your mind at rest. The surprise isn't ruined. I only told him that you passed out and Mr. Rashford's grandson had brought you here.”

I needed to leave. Fast.
I rushed up, trying to figure out where my phone was when the door pushed open.
Dad and mom walked in with Walter– the father of my child standing behind them.
My eyes were fixed on Walter, but he didn't bother looking at me.

“What happened?” Dad asked, his voice cold as ice.
I rubbed my hands against my thighs. “A fever,” I said and doctor Chris looked at me with furrowed brows.

“I'll excuse you now,” he said before leaving.
The doctor shut the door behind him and father walked towards me. His gaze burning through my skin as his hands reached for my face. “You're lying,” he said, reading through me like a book.

“It's better you start talking now, Haven,” he added.

My whole body trembled.
I couldn't look into dad's eyes.
The paper.
I immediately hid it behind me, hoping he wouldn't notice.
Dad eventually did. He snatched it from me without a warning.

I watched silently as he read, a lump formed in my throat.
Walter stood there the whole time, less worried about anything that happened.

Mother took a step closer.
Dad finally raised his head and a slap met my face…. before I could catch my breath I received another.

“Who is the father of that thing!” Dad sneered and not until then did Walter raise his head.

I looked at Walter, hoping to see concern in eyes but his face remained emotionless– unreadable.

“Who!”

“I….. I ….” I stuttered, sobbing.

Dad looked at me and laughed.
“The only reason I won't be killing you and that thing is if it belongs to Mr. Rashford's grandson. If it's not, be ready for whatever comes for you, Haven.”

Dad turned to leave and mom followed suit.
Walter wanted to leave too but I held him back.

“Please,” I cried.
“Don't touch me,” he growled, snatching myself from my grip.

“Walter,” I called. “The child. It's yours,” I said, looking into his eyes, hoping that he'd fall into my hands and hold me. But he didn't.
Instead, he kept looking at me.
“I'm sorry for not believing you when…..”

“Harrington refused to accept it, didn't he? So you need…” he cleared his throat. “A father?”

“What?”
Walter scoffed. “You were sure, we're you? That you weren't carrying my child and plus…. you've been sleeping around alot lately. Give it to someone else. I don't want it,” Walter… Walter walked out on me.
