Chapter 40

Liam ran as fast as possible, racing against time to save his father and sister. His chest ached when he imagined Federica's body being dragged by Hawthorn like ready-to-eat meat. He could already imagine that Federica had died at the hands of those dwarf humans.

The moonlight was getting brighter and brighter as if giving way to where Liam was running. The wind became stronger and louder, pushing Liam's body to move quickly towards his residence. Suddenly, several servants approached from all directions. Liam knows the vampire-enslaved people belong to Blake. Their eyes glowed red as if they couldn't wait for the half-blood's blood to be stored in their shirt pocket.

"My master has been waiting for you, Liam," said one of the servants. "If you fail, he has ordered us to finish you off."

Like prisoners, the enslaved people followed Liam wherever he went even though he had brought half-blood as a guarantee of the safety of his father and brother until Liam arrived in front of the house, which was filled with many servants and dry human bodies piled on the ground like rubbish.

A few moments later, Blake appeared from behind the house door with a grin, impatiently waiting for the blood he had been waiting for decades. “Oh, my clever cousin. Welcome home."

"Where are my father and Laura?" Liam asked. "Don't wish you had them before you let them go, Blake!"

"Tsk, tsk, tsk... you know our family never lies, Liam," said Blake, stepping into the house.

Liam followed him in silence to the basement. There, it appeared that Allan and Laura had been released from the vervain even though they were still tied up with wire. Unfortunately, their bodies look paler until their lips are blackish blue from the vervain. After being released, Liam promised to steal lots of blood bags to replenish the energy of his beloved father and brother.

Meanwhile, Zoe stood beside Allan like an executioner, staring hatefully at Liam. Even though they are not related by blood, Zoe hates vampires who act sanctimoniously to maintain the balance of nature. If Blake hadn't been restrained, his long fingers would have been slashing at Liam's head since yesterday.

“Hand over the blood!” Blake ordered, holding out his left hand.

"Let go of my father first!" Liam asked firmly. "As you promised, Blake."

Blake smiled. “Throw that thing away, and I'll let your father go. You know I never break a promise, right?"

Liam cradled for a moment, then complied with Blake's request. He gives the vial containing Federica's blood to his cousin. Blake accepted with stunned eyes and then kissed the bottle like a treasure. Even though it was closed tightly, his sharp nose could still feel the sweet aroma of the half-blood's blood.

Blake gave Zoe a code as she approached their prisoner. Allan, at the threshold of his strength, looked at Blake with hatred and emphasized that not all vampires could survive the side effects of half-blood. However, Blake only considered the wind as he untied the wire in Allan's hand. After being given so much vervain, Allan struggled to stand with the remaining strength.

In the next second, in front of Liam, Blake, who was standing behind Allan, immediately slashed Allan's head with a dagger he had brought secretly. Likewise, Zoe suddenly ripped Laura's neck until it was cut off.

"No!!!" Liam screamed, seeing Allan and Laura's heads rolling on the floor with blood pouring out of their necks.

With Cassandra and Zoe, Blake visited one of the sacred gothic buildings even though he had to travel tens of kilometers. He laughed triumphantly, impatiently waiting for his beloved father to awaken and start the long-awaited war. Blake looked out the car window as Cassandra drove at high speed, black clouds drifting towards the south along with the moonlight, which was dim because it was covered in wisps of cotton.

Then he glanced at the car window, where several large motorbikes followed him. They are pure vampires who are followers of the Grim Ripper, spread across several cities. Meanwhile, the servants guarded the forest area and city borders to prevent anyone else from disrupting Blake's plans. The greedy vampire cheered without caring about the safety of humans using the asphalt road.

The roar of Blake's car engine stopping in front of the First Church of Otago reminded him of the 19th century. The glory of vampires was so brilliant after the Grim Ripper succeeded in destroying and subduing the entire clan; pure humans at that time could not do anything other than handing over their blood to the bloodsuckers. The cries of women and men begging to be left alive became the most memorable part of Blake's mind.

The towering church pillars look proud, as if they are challenging the presence of the vampires. Blake spat right in front of the entrance and attacked one of the men who happened to be coming out of the church. Blood immediately splashed on white walls maintained for hundreds of years. Zoe roars with laughter, then join Blake in draining the blood.

“Come on, Blake!” Cassandra complained about her sister's behavior. “There's no time left.”

Blood immediately seeped out of the corner of Blake's mouth as his irises glowed red. He moved quickly toward one corner of the church, where there was a small urn containing his father's ashes and tailbone. Blake carefully opened the jar and sprinkled the ashes on the floor, then reached for the vial containing Federica's blood. He poured the blood right onto his father's tailbone until it was completely coated.

“Wake up, Father... let's show them how cruel we can be...” Blake hissed as he bit his left wrist and dripped his blood on top of Federica's.

It took a few moments for the blood that pooled in the small bones to turn black and be absorbed. Blake smiled broadly, then moved back when the bone wobbled and grew bigger, followed by a cloud of black smoke.

"Does this work?" Zoe asked.

“Yeah! Come on, Father! Show me where you are!” Blake shouted, followed by an explosion that destroyed the floor, leaving a hole in it.

The thick cloud of smoke was getting thinner and thinner; a blonde-haired man wearing Victorian clothes stood straight and smiling. Blake clapped like crazy. Meanwhile, Zoe, Cassandra, and the pure vampires behind Blake immediately looked down to welcome the Grim Ripper, who had risen from the dead.

Matthias inhaled air to fill his chest cavity, then looked at his fingers and felt his own body in amazement. The man stepped slowly towards the proud boy who had made his promise.

"Hello, Son," whispered Matthias with a glint in his eyes. "I need your help."
