CHAPTER FOUR
"That would be all for today, everyone. Ensure to prepare adequately for the next semester. Happy holiday."
Everyone murmured a reply as they hurried out of class. Today marked the last day in the last semester in Phoebe's second year. Two years down, two more to go. She had gotten a text from the girls saying to wait for them. They wanted to take her out, they always wanted to take her out. She sat down on a pavement and awaited her friends.
After about twenty minutes, Phoebe was bored out of her mind, she wondered where her friends were. With her shades on, she took to analyzing the wardrobe of the other students. Voting Yay or Nay in her head and chewing gum, her eyes followed a guy that she thought was hot and that was when she saw it…and him.
A black Aston Martin parked a few feet away from her.
"Stop it, Phoebe. Anyone could own an Aston Martin…he's not the only one with that car in the world."
Phoebe drew her attention away from the car and resumed her inspection, but her eyes always drifted back to the car. Then he stepped out, Jamie. Phoebe's mouth opened and refused to close back up. Two fucking years!
He looked even better but what exactly was he doing here? And he was headed straight for her. Phoebe turned her face away and tried acting like she hadn't seen him, as if that would work.
"Hello, there. Fancy seeing you here." Phoebe watched as Jamie took a seat beside her and rested his elbows on his knees.
"Excuse me, have we met?"
Phoebe didn't need to be sitting next to Jamie to know that he was offended, the way his shoulders tensed and his face turned into a scowl was evidence enough.
"What?" Jamie grated the word out and that should have been warning enough for Phoebe but she was enjoying his discomfort way too much. And so, she pushed on.
"You know, it's creepy to just walk up to someone, sit next to them and begin a conversation like we're old friends. Creepy."
Jamie laughed, a peal of sarcastic laughter, and looked at her, she looked hell bent on denying him, why she would want to do that was beyond him.
"So, you don't remember me?"
"I wouldn't be asking you if we've met if I know you, now would I?"
"Hm, so you don't remember the guy you fucked about two years ago, the one that bent you into every position known and unknown to man, the one that gave you more orgasms than all your exes and one-night stands put together, you don't remember him?"
Phoebe's jaw dropped open at the boldness of the man sitting beside her, she hadn't expected him to be so vulgar. But she wasn't giving him the satisfaction of seeing him get to her.
"I still have no idea what you're talking about. I mean, if the fuck was as memorable as you claim it was, I would remember."
That did it for Jamie, he lifted her and pulled her into his lap, making her straddle him and claimed her lips. He had spent two years watching from afar, for her safety, when all he wanted to do was hold her in his arms and never let her go. And he gave her all of his pent-up anger and frustration through the kiss, by the time they broke apart, they were panting for air like their lungs were about to give out.
Phoebe scrambled off his laps and regained her seat, turning away from him, trying to regain her composure. She just learned something new: it wasn't wise to tease Jamie, the results can be disastrous.
"Has your memory returned to you or do you need me to give another reminder…a more detailed reminder?"
Phoebe's body trembled slightly as images of what a more detailed reminder would be, and she knew he had a mind to do just that if she decided that she wanted to continue to play games.
"No! you've proved your point, Jamie. What do you want?"
Jamie smiled widely; the curve so wide it threatened to split his face in two. He wasn't happy that she was giving up so easily, he had hoped that she would prove a little more difficult, he wanted to show her a more detailed example.
"What do you mean, can't a man come to visit a university anymore?"
"Not when that person is you, sir. Let's get this over with quickly, I'm expecting company. What do you want!?"
Jamie didn't like it one bit when she said 'company', he badly wanted to know who counted as a company. He was a possessive man; he didn't like the thought of other men trying to take Phoebe from him.
"She's not yours, man." His subconscious was quick to call him out on that one. True, she wasn't his but that would change soon. He had wanted to wait till she was done with school but he felt like he was going to die if he didn't see her in person if he didn't hold her.
"I'm here because I wanted to see you, Phoebe. Nothing more than to do just that."
"Why would you want to do that? What we had was just a one-night stand."
"Maybe for you, but for me, it was more than just sex. I've never wanted to be with a woman like I want to be with you."
Phoebe was speechless, one because she didn't see Jamie as someone who expressed his feelings so openly.
"But we don't know each other, all we shared was one night of passion."
"You don't know me but I know you, I have been watching you for months, Phoebe."
"Sure, I mean it's not like that's creepy or anything, spying on someone like that."
"That's why I'm here, for you to know me. So, what do you say? Have dinner with me tonight."
"No, I don't think that's such a good idea."
"Why not, Phoebe?"
"Well, because…" Phoebe paused because hearing him say her name was doing funny things to her body and also because she could sight Hailey, Cindy and Mindy approaching. They had already seen her and had begun to power walk, wanting to know who she was talking to. If they caught him here, no one would be able to save her from the embarrassment that will ensue.
"You know what? Yes. I'll have dinner with you, on one condition."
"Name it and it's done."
"You leave right now." Jamie cocked his head to the side. That was an unusual request, and he guessed it had something to do with whatever or whoever she was staring at behind him, so he did what any other sane man would do: he turned. If she was trying so hard to discharge him because of a guy, they were both going to get it. Jamie turned and instead spotted three girls making a beeline for them. He didn't understand what was going on; the closer they got, the antsier she became.
"You have to go now!"
"Okay. 7:00 pm." Jamie stood up and turned to leave. "I'll pick you up."
Phoebe immediately remembered that the last time he had dropped her off, it had been at the wrong address.
"Oh, about my address…" he turned and looked at her with a smirk on his face, a smirk that said it all.
"I know, sweetheart. You gave me the wrong address but don't worry, I'll pick you at the right one."
Phoebe watched him walk off, she just felt like Jamie wasn't who he appeared to be. It pricked her but she didn't have time to dwell on that thought because the girls had finally caught up with her. They sandwiched her in the middle on the small bench and she was already feeling suffocated…and the questioning hadn't even begun yet.
"Just hold on, I know you want to know who that is and all the juice but, I am tired and I need to rest, I also need a burger and a smoothie. If you can get me that, you'll get the gist in the car instead of waiting till we get home and after I've had a nap."
The girls knew what Phoebe's 'nap' was like so ten minutes later, Phoebe was halfway through with her burger and had told the girls everything about Jamie and everything that happened between them. And of course, the date. The girls were screaming and already planning her outfit from the car, it was like they knew her clothes more than she did. She simply shut her eyes and got her nap in the car because she knew that when they got home, there was no way she was getting any rest. She might as well take advantage of the time now.
***
Phoebe was right about not getting any rest, the second they got home, the girls wrestled her to the kitchen where they googled Jamie. They sighed with disappointment when over a hundred Jamie's showed up on the search engine if they had the last name, they would have found him.
Without even giving her time to breathe, they had dragged her upstairs and began selecting dresses, shoes, bags and kept flipping through the hair catalog to find the 'perfect hairdo for an expensive date'. Four hours of hairbrushes, lipstick, and hair curlers later, they deemed her ready. She breathed a sigh of relief when they finally left the room, she carefully lay on the bed to get some rest. Despite the 'torture', she knew she looked good and if she was on her own, she probably wouldn't have pulled off this look. She closed her eyes for a second and that was when she heard the doorbell. Phoebe groaned and stood up when she heard footsteps running up the stairs, she counted the seconds before they got to her as she picked up her purse and looked at herself one more time in the mirror.
Phoebe's door burst open and Hailey let herself in, carefully closing the door behind her.
"Oh my gosh, he's here. He's so hot." She began fanning her fingers across her face and squealed, jumping as she tried to contain her excitement.
"Alright, Pheebs. Play it cool, remember he's hot but you're hotter. Now, go get that meat, girl."
Phoebe laughed at what Hailey said. That girl wasn't normal, and Phoebe loved her with all of her crazy attitudes.
No warning of Hailey's could have prepared Phoebe for the hotness that awaited her. She saw Jamie when she crossed the last step. They both saw each other. They drank each other in, he wore another suit, this time wine and a white shirt underneath. How does someone manage to make a suit look so hot? He should be a model or something.
Jamie made the first move, he walked the few steps towards her and picked up her hand, placing a soft kiss on her wrist.
"You look beautiful, Phoebe." Phoebe felt the color rise from her neck to her cheeks and her hair was packed up so there was nowhere to hide.
"Thank you, Jamie."
"Aww…"
The two love birds immediately turned their attention to the other occupants of the room, they had forgotten they weren't alone.
"We'll get going."
Phoebe nodded her head and they went out to the car, she waved at her friends from the window as they drove off. She sighed as she looked out the window as he drove through the city, she knew she was going to be answering questions upon questions when she got home. Phoebe noticed they had driven farther than where she was used to which prompted her to sit up in her chair and look fixedly at the glowing lights and waterfalls that seemed to shine in the dark.
"Where are we going, Jamie?"
"On a date…I thought that was obvious." Phoebe rolled her eyes and turned to face him.
"Don't get smart with me, sir. Where exactly are we going?"
"It's a surprise, I can't tell you that, don't want to ruin the surprise."
Phoebe continued watching Jamie as he drove and saw the tiny smile that spread across his face, she didn't know what to think. If he was teasing her or if he thought the darkness hid that thin line that lifted his cheeks. She relaxed in her chair and watched the road ahead of her, she didn't know why but she just knew that she was safe with him. Phoebe always knew where her dates were taking her, and she always went on a date with at least one weapon, either pepper spray or a teaser. But tonight…she was completely defenseless and she didn't give a damn about it.
